Am I the only one who is annoyed that they added this feature into an april fools joke? We better get this added into Vanilla. Just in case I haven't already posted in this thread, I support this idea.
Custom maps and redstone would be amazing after this.

So I was working on this really cool resource pack a while ago, but bad progress nonwithstanding, I think I found something much better... I'm probably gonna never release another custom Minecraft map.Until we meet again...
This idea is totally impractical. It would require a Z buffer that does depth sorting in order to make transparency look good, and those are not supported on the older graphics cards most people are likely to have. Colored lighting would take more time to compute, slowing down a game that already runs at <30 FPS on most people's machines. Storing light colors in the chunk files would add to file size, making already large map files larger, constraining world sizes for servers. ( Server hosting services have strict memory limits, and good servers keep several backups too, remember that ) Larger file sizes means slower load times for players on servers. And don't try to claim that it can all be solved by rewriting the engine in C++. JLWGE uses the java native interface for it's openGL bindings, so the graphics stuff is already running in C++. It would take months to rewrite minecraft in C++ and you'd get a very small improvement in performance.

You make a good point (even though I'm not an expert on how MC works), or actually several. However, I don't think that if you did it a certain way it would take long to compute. For example, If it was just dyed like wool was, then in addition to the glass texture(s), there could 1 or more lighting sheets added that are colored differently, and that would not require much extra computation. However, if it was done like leather is...

Did they change the signature limit, or is it just me?
I'm going to have some fun with this!

there are actually several holes to his claims which we have been over before. But he is right about the z-buffer being required to make proper colored glass. Then again, people seem fine about the April fools implementation of colored glass so maybe a z-buffer (though desirable to me since I know what it would do for the aesthetics of colored glass) is not completely necessary.
I would love to see this in minecraft. *Somewhere In 2.?* "Im off to make some colored glass mosaics!" people would start to make entire houses out of that stuff. Imagine block art! a statue of a creeper made out of wool and colored glass. That would be an amazing experience.
Didn't we just see colored glass in the April fools update?
Yes we did. It's possible that Mojang was mocking this topic with that "joke". If so, What they seem to be forgetting is that they would be mocking not the topic or myself, but mocking the dreams that belong to the majority of their own fans and followers; It is in-fact the community that put so much support, passion and love into this suggestion. In doing so, this idea belongs to any Minecraft fan as it does me.
...it also probably doesn't help that i made this topic on April fools one year ago lol. If I were a superstitious person, I probably would have waited to post it one day later.

To be positive, what if they were just testing what it would look like in the Minecraft 2.0 joke?

Yes that was the idea we all had at the time but Dinnerbone tweeted later expressing his objectiveness of colored glass. So once again we are unsure of the suggestion's future in Minecraft.

I usually have a neutral/undecided standpoint on things. And yes, I am part Swiss.
I just want to hug you...
I shall support this great idea because I know what I can do if this really does come true...

Yeah Jeb was just messing around and the textures weren't really that nice.
