Iron has been a non-renewable source for a long time, but with these golem it had become renewable.
The way to make it non-renewable again is to change the drop of the golems.
Change the 0-4(not sure if that is the drop) chance of dropping iron bars with a new item, Rusted Iron Ingots, they would have the similar aspect to a normal Iron bar , but with brownish patches over it.
Rusted Iron Bar has no crafting purpose, but it can be purifed, this yet didn't thought about yet...... preferably a non-renewable source, somewhat like Lava(just example) or some type of new liquid, like an acid.
This liquid would ocurr underground 0-40 layer in ponds, it cannot be placed into infinite ponds like water is. This liquid can be contained in a special type of bucket,a golden bucket(just example, or maybe diamond O.O) you place the acid bucket in the furnace as fuel and the rusted iron ingots and VOILA! you got normal iron ingots. The buckets lasts for 20 uses.

You should edit that out to say "ingots" instead of bars, because iron bars and iron ingots are two separate items in-game. And adding a new liquid for the single purpose of making a rusted ingot into a regular ingot seems redundant. Who cares if some 40-year-old guy living in his mom's basement has renewable iron? Iron tools aren't that great (but iron armor kicks ass), so it's hardly game-breaking.
A compromise could be making Iron Golems drop "iron nuggets" instead of ingots, which would require much more time to get anywhere.

Nuggets seem more in essence of gold.
I would think golems would drop 'scrap metal', which you could collect and do the same thing with.
It would be alot easier if they just dropped something other then iron.
Make it a stone golem and make it drop 1/2 slabs instead I say.
The material is as good as it is right now, stone golems would be way to OP, maybe if done weaker than actual Iron golems because of their material, and rarity of it.
Stone golems, you can have a pumpkin farm and have 100 golems, because iron blocks are way more difficult to get.
All I want changed with the iron golems is that if they die by any means other than death from mobs or the player [Directly or with projectiles/potions], they won't drop anything at all.
No need to create new items.
But I WOULD like a cool drop from iron golems. Like if they always dropped an enchanted iron sword or something. But this is if the system of having to directly kill them is in place.
Don't you mean INGOTS? Iron bars are WAY different than iron ingots. Very misleading.

The issue is they shouldn't be able to drown or be farmed, and therefore make you fight for that iron. They're golems, they don't need to breathe

The Emperor's Rage echoes through the hills. The Emperor's Strength grips this land with fists of iron. The Emperor's Courage burns everlasting. The Endless Army will crush the Emperor's foes.

...and then leave villages defenseless even more.

It has to to with the update.
