I (mostly) support! Here's my opinion on the topic.
Right now, zombies have exactly 1 chestplate of armor. It can't be seen and is removed in 1 hit. This makes an iron sword take 4 hits to kill one. What if they could be wearing chainmail armor?
Zombies and Skeletons might come wearing chainmail armor, usually just a helmet and boots, and they will get the damage reduction from their armor. If it's a rare drop, they also drop what they're wearing. Of course, somewhat damaged.
It's a good idea, although one might say that it is cool because something specifically for hacks was added into the Vanilla game, and it is cool having it with just hacks.

I have not posted on the forums in awhile, but after seeing this I must say I support.
After hearing about the snapshot I was worried people would get upset about the iron weapons and ingots being dropped, and It turns out it was true.
I think chainmail instead of iron is a much better choice and a reasonable compromise. Instead of infinite iron, we will still have to mine for it, and we get a new item in survival.
Such a simple yet brilliant idea. Jeb needs to hear this because I have a feeling these rare iron drops are going to get him a lot of hate. This could be the change we need!

In this new snapshot, zombies and creepers drop iron armor rarely.
So... what if they drop chain armor instead of iron? I think it would be a nice way to introduce chainmail on survival.
So... thoughts?
Approved!

Iron seems too powerful, While chain is in between leather and iron. +1

Iron is not powerful... it's kinda overpowered :dry.gif:

powerful =/= overpowered
iron = overpowered, because it's very useful, good and soooo common.
diamond = powerful, despite being so good it's extremely rare.
Thanks for great feedback
No problems. I will be happy if you do so.
Ok, let's wait for a possible response.
Not really.
I'm too lazy to read the entire thread. So i just agree with the idea and this quote.
Nope.
Leather<gold<chainmail<iron<diamond
If you look in the wiki, gold is much better than leather, and chainmail is a bit better than gold.
Full leather: 7/20 armor
Full gold: 11/20 armor
Full chainmail: 12/20 armor
Full iron: 15/20 armor
Full diamond: 20/20 armor
Edit: maybe chainmail can be better than iron if you enchant a lot of stuff.
Enchantability of armor:
Leather 15
Gold 25
Chainmail 12
Iron 9
Diamond 10
No problems about dropping tools...
Iron armor is overpowered, not the tools :wink.gif:
