Have you ever thought on bringing back sequoiadendrons?
I've been thinking about it, but it's actually quite hard to come up with a unique design for those. It's very challenging to match the trunk width and the height while keeping it reasonable, get all the leaves and branches in a correct fashion, etc. I'll probably leave the job to someone else. Except...
I had a dream last night about minecraft. It is very vague now, but I do remember being in some sort of forest, and the trees were quite dispersed, about 10 blocks between each. I don't remember what kinds of trees they were. The color was also very monotonous, almost all white. Then I saw myself facing a huge tree. Not a jungle tree, not a redwood nor a douglas fir, but something else. Again it is very vague so I don't remember what it was, but looking at it now it seems to me that it might have been a Eucalyptus Regnans, A.K.A mountain ash. I know little of this tree, but it grows in Tasmania and Australia and grows to be a considerable height, up to 400 feet (not anymore) but do not live long. I'll think on this subject, and tell you what's going on with it as I progress. I will keep updating the redwoods though, first things first.
Eucalyptus Regnans, 80 Meters

Looks like a quite interesting tree indeed. I personally think (if ever) you decide to throw douglas firs, eucalyptus and sequoiadendron all with redwoods into the mix, it's gonna get a little packed with huge trees. A mod with all these as well as possibly a few more trees and smaller vegetation would be perfect.

Yes. A modder would be very appreciated, but I don't intend to try to incorporate all these into vanilla, for the reasons you mentioned.
Left to right: Redwood (50 blocks), Douglas Fir, Pine, Human.
I finally decided that I would keep the redwoods as they are, and are now closed to updating and editing. I will not add any more trees to the biomes, which means they are partially closed to editing (trees only are closed). But the thread is not dead though, so feel free to share your thoughts, ideas and critics. I need as much feedback as possible, to not only edit the biome but also to decide on my next thread ideas.
I closed the poll as well. I have gotten a large enough sample, positive majority.
It may seem like it, but no one has established that rule. Nothing stops the game from having fantastic passive mobs and realistic hostile/neutral mobs.
Yea. Like Mooshroom isn't real. Oh wait. Its based of cows.
I like this idea. That one screenshot of the forest at sunset was just beautiful...
I think owls would be an interesting idea for a mob, perhaps a passive one that makes nests high up in the trees and flies around trying to avoid the player for the most part. They could also be more active at night, maybe even becoming aggressive toward the player. They could drop feathers when killed (because, let's face it, gathering a bunch of feathers quickly is no easy task with the recent changes to passive mobs), and perhaps their nests could have a small chance of dropping books (a little joke on the whole owls being wise thing).
If you wanted a mythical/supernatural aggressive forest animal, there's always sasquatches or some kind or werewolf...

I like your owl idea. Some sort of bigfoot-type beast would probably fit nicely. Thanks for the support!
I am COMPLETELY surprised this thread died! OP, consider this a bump-gift!
My idea is to have the Redwood trees be 40 blocks tall and 3x3. Douglas firs should be like Jungle trees, 2x2 and 20 blocks high, and both should have Saplings. As far as vegetation goes, maybe a new, larger fern and a different type of long grass? Orange and blue flowers? Green mushroom? Anything is possible...
Two mobs:
- Bigfoot, 4 blocks tall, neutral until attacked - hides behind trees and looks at you. Can be given food to become docile. Drops bigfoot bones that are a powerful smelting matierial, and can be crafted into 6 Bonemeal each. Has 60 health points, or thirty hearts.
- Owl, neutral until attacked, 20 health points or ten hearts, drops Owl Feathers which can be used to make more powerful arrows. Also drops Eggs.
New randomly generated structures:
- Abandoned Lodge, large structure with two or three levels, all with zombie and Skele spawners and Spiderwebs. Chest at top contains anything from potions to enchanted diamond gear.
- Abandoned Mineshaft Entrances. (This is pretty self explanatory)
You should definitely get somebody to code and texture this. It would be awesome!

Lol
Thanks for clearing my point towards gypsy.
Really? That's awsome. Can you post a screenshot?
