You travel into the past (Pre-1.8.1, or even ALPHA)
Old world generation code, old monsters, etc.
Yeaaaahahhhh
Agreed but i have an addition.
past- your idea
future- made with gold/iron blocks and redstone ore blocks as portal(really hard to get but possible, with the pickax enchant) almost everything is made out of iron blocks, the entire thing should basically be one big generated city too- to give it a futuristic feel.
Present- made with stone and lava- brings you to the exact same world, with the same spawn, but its back like it was when you first rendered it.

1. They won't spawn Ghasts, they will just be white blocks called Ghast eggs which are a potion ingredient.
Instead of the hazard block there will be Fire catalyst or Netherraze. 2. When walked on, hit or powered by Redstone (thus also when hit by a ghast fireballs) it will spawn a large amount of fire around it.
When mined it drops 1 chunk. 4 can be recombined to make a less powerful block which can summon fire on top of it when powered by redstone. More importantly these blocks 3. can be used with Blaze rods to make a tool set which has the power of iron and Smelts all drops, e.g. chopping wood gives charcoal and killing a pig drops cooked meat (as well as catching fire).
I think that is less OP.
1. Yes but, since technically the item "ghast egg" already exists (in creative I know that), It just would feel kind of redundant, having 2 items named the same, even if they have different uses.
Mob eggs in general should stay in creative IMO
2. basically, redstone powered netherrack? Not a bad idea.
Should only be activated by redstone though. If walking on it activates it, then you
wouldn't be able to walk on it! You'd be toast before you mined even one lol
3. Oh dear, wouldn't that eliminate the need for a furnace though? Maybe have this as an rare enchantment instead
2. The idea is that it is a hazard, if a ghast hits the column you are screwed. Anyway it is the natural version that is dangerous.
The version the player can make does only summon fire when activated by redstone.
3. A sword takes 8 Netheraze/fire catalyst to make (2 blocks made up of 4 chunks each thus you have to break 8 pure blocks). For a pickaxe you will need to find 12 pure blocks.
And just remember during this you will be being hounded by ghasts and fire, climbing up a thin pillar after travelling across a lava lake. I think if he tool has iron durability it won't be that overpowered.
1. Aren't they supposed to be ghosts or something? What about ghast soul instead?
2. Yes, but how would one walk on the blocks if they instantly catch fire the moment you step on them?
3. The hardships of getting it may seem like it would balance it out, but it really doesn't IMO
Ok, the fire block will stay, it will be activated by redstone or being hit. If hit with an explosion it will cause a flash of fire around it (as the nether has netherack this will last forever). When mined it drops itself.
Overall in terms of design it will just be a nicer texture of netherack.
As for the reward you will have cobweb like blocks which when mined will either drop ghast souls or spawn a Ghast above you. Everyone OK?
Woah bro,
I understand that your ideas were changed a bit, but this is a crucial part of brainstorming. Someone posts an idea, others comment on it.
Everyone goes through a thought process
- is this a good idea?
- if it is will it fit in MC?
- are there any complications that may hinder this idea from being practical ?
* is it balanced?
*are there any physical limitations that could prevent it from being added?
*are there any technical limitations? ( too difficult to code etc )
- is there anything that could be improved?
All I'm saying is that , you can't expect all of your ideas to be implemented exactly how you want them, even if we get a mod for this thread up and running, it may not even be implemented, or Jen might change a few things to fit his taste.
You have had some pretty good suggestions already, the nether eye was an amazing idea, and I will make sure it makes it into the official mod when we start one.
Try and except criticism, as we are all working for the same goal, improving minecraft! :wink.gif:
very rare trees which don't have leaf blocks. Instead they have dark wood branches will blaze rods sticking out. The rods can be sheared off using shears and then the wood cut down. However if you cut down a piece of wood connected to some rods those rods would turn into Blazes.
small idea, what do you think?
I don't like the idea of trees in the Nether at all. It is a cave, it doesn't make sense, and to me it just ruins the atmosphere. I am also against the idea of getting Blaze Rods through any way that avoids ever fighting Blazes.
Edit: What we actually need is more ground types to break up the monotony of the Netherrack. I was think something like Netherslate which would have a horizontal grain and fall. Not only would this provide an aesthetic difference to break up the neutral grain of the Netherrack, it would make for some treacherous ground that you may need to risk running across to get to another island. Ghast bombs should make it fall. It should be found in large chunks unlike Soul Sand which is found in small plains. This is just a basic idea though, anything really that would break up the Netherrack would be much appreciated.
Yea, good idea. I think that it should occur all throughout the Nether, like in veins across the ceiling and layers of it in Netherrack cliffs, as well as occurring in overhangs. This might mean that a stray ghast fireball could send a whole slew of this material down on your head, or bring your island down into the lava. All the more reason to hit a ghasts attacks away from you.
I like all of the ideas, especially the mace (although I would handle it in a different way, probably not consuming the weapon), except the idea for a new tool set. In my opinion, new metals should be put into the Overworld for tools, but other dimensions could provide materials that could reinforce your tools in some way. Maybe the shards could give your tools some added effect? Any ideas for that?

I agree, blaze rods should come from blazes only (and maybe chests)
But we could have some kind of randomly generated vegetation, albeit twisted vegetation so it would fit the theme
And I like the idea of thinning out the netherrack with some other blocks.
Also We should probably not go overboard and have entirely new tool sets just yet.
Basalt is a keeper. Might have to change a few of its properties, but other than that it looks good
Ghast souls are creepy! They should spawn mini ghasts when broken, baby ghasts if you will.
Guess they could be like ghast eggs, but Name-wise they should be something else.
What's another word for egg? It can't be larva, because that implies they are already hatched.
Bit too late for that. In my Nether thread there are quartz tools. Anyway I have an idea for nether tools. Basically you get 3 handle tools (e.g. blaze rods) and 3 item components (e.g. Quartz). Each of these will combine to give a total of 9 different tools with different abilities.
I have a feeling this might get extremely complicated to code later on
But seriously, no new tool sets until we get a grasp on the other stuff like dimension order and aesthetics.
To me basalt is unfitting. It is a volcanic rock, not something straight out of hell in my opinion. Netherrack, for example, is not a real stone. What is currently called basalt should have a more creative name as well. Also, quartz tools are a bad idea. I suggest you remove them from the thread. Quartz is a very common clear crystal, and completely unfitting for the Nether.
Its not "too late" either, because you can simply edit them out :tongue.gif:
No one seems to be touching on the Skylands dimension, just saying.

Because volcanic rock needs to cool down to become rock. Hell never cools down, and plus its just not magical sounding at all. So many better names for it. I didn't support the name, I supported the idea because it started off as my idea :tongue.gif: Also, quartz is the second most abundant mineral in the Earths crust. The nether would be very far below that. Maybe adding quartz in the Overworld.

i don't support any type of new tools or armour, i just think we have enough of those and adding any more would be unnecasary. as for the skylands part, we cant say any ideas for that as for the "Aether" mod took lots of good ideas that would fit if changed a little, we would get bombarded with negitive feedback cause there's already a mod that contains simular materials.
Also, i think my demension idea of "The Core" would be changed to a boss demension, ill make another post when i get all the ideas together

1. He has a point there, maybe have basalt near volcanoes instead? I know that those are suggested quite frequently and a lot of people want them.
2. Actually, isn't the earths crust made of mostly silicon? Meh, any ways, adding quartz to the overworld caves sounds like a better idea, I know there is a great topic on Get Satisfaction about crystiline caves, could someone post the link please?

1. Not if we got the modders on board with us. Not sure how we would do that, but if we do we' ll have a mod team, and no one will flame us for using some of the ideas from the Aether mod. Not to metion, we would have a mostly completed sky dimension that's already coded. It would be a lot easier than coding it ourselves.
2. Yes, probably. Could be the boss dimension for the nether, and of course we're gonna have to tweak it a bit so it fits.
you have a point on the first one, although if we start with the aether we would have to take out alot of stuff, change alot of stuff, and add alot of stuff (cause we have to take stuff out). but ya, if we get the person(s) who made the "aether" mod we could make a "skylands" mod that would fit into minecraft better.
As for the second one, that wasnt what i was thinking, as for it would be somewhat like my original idea but different. I'm just brainstorming up some more detail till i post it on here.
How about a Nether boss? It requieres a item to be invoked. When you do, you will be teleported to a pre-generated arena, with LOTS of lava. In the middle, a big lava pool, where a HUGE, LAVA SPITTER DRAGON DEMON WILL BE WAITING FOR YOU!!!!!11!!!!eleven!!!!
The demon must be humanoid. It may not leave the lava poll. Only the upper part of the demon (arms and head) must be visible. If the player gets near it, it will try to hit the player with it's arms in a slow but paintful attack. If the player tries to flee, it will spit a "lava generator". The entity will create a block of lava upon impact. This means that fleeing is bad because the arena will be flooded quickly with lava if the player do so. The demon must have disturbing screams. While the Enderdragon envolves a more "hit'n'run" strategy, the easiest way to kill the Demon is facing him. The Demon must have a ranged damage reduction, and maybe, to get the thing more interesting, a weakness to Gold Swords. Also, the arena must have small, 1-block wide bridges around the demon. Hitting the head with a Gold Sword causes 100% chance of critical damage. The whole concept of the fight is "if you don't face your fears, you will DIE". So if you stop looking at the boss for too long, it attacks will get stronger. What do you think?

The hazard block is fine, it just shouldn't activate when you walk on it. Ghast fireballs and redstone activation is fine.
Also I suggested ghast souls as a reward
