So, you can easily snip them out of the picture if they're too big. It won't affect the rest of the idea. The system of how the boats work can still be there and you can still work with that.
I'm all for more boats, bigger boats, more durable boats... but those boats are ugly.
The two man boat, you wouldn't be able to see where you are going since the wool of the sail
is right in your face blocking your view. They are just too blocky even for MC, no flair or
decoration, and remember the 1 man floating cardboard box we got now is not a normal block
so the boats can be built with non buiding blocks, someone else posted some pics of boats
specificly a two man boat using the same block types as the one we currently have that looks
very nice. If they made boats along those lines these could be made a tiny bit smaller while
still giving the impression of size so they were not 'too big for the ocean or rivers'.
Minor suggestions?
Wool balloons and props that could be added to cogs and skiffs.
Why? Because they're the lightest boats (assuming minecraft ever got psychics) and dinghies would look terrible with a balloon. Props could also be used for a stronger, more manueverable, and faster engine for galleons and carracks. It could be steam (coal powered and weakest) or redstone (strongest and most fuel consuming). Balloons could be attached as propulsion systems, but would need proppellers to move.
I think that crafting bigger boats and ships is completely the wrong way to go. Instead, boats should be constructed like houses. That way players can make whatever type they want. You just need to change the physics in Minecraft so that wood floats on water. Once you do that, the sky is the limit. Save the crafting for control systems and propulsion systems.
Yeah, the change to physics for custom built boats (similar to the zeppelins or airships mod perhaps) would be the way to go...it would require blocks to be assigned a weight as well for displacement, and the blast resistance would take care of the values for collision damage to strip out blocks from the bottom of the boat if you hit the shallows.
Done properly it also should mean sinking ships, ship wrecks, sponges being useful in survival, and salvage.
Realism could allow for sailboats speed to be affected by the wind, so clouds could be made to occasionally change directions. Also makes the manufacture of propulsion engines desirable.
What are the chances it would be properly done though....

Exactly. Crafting boats out of blocks has been discussed a thousand and one times, and I have given my reasons on why they would not work. On top of that, the default boat is already an entity; it would only make sense to have entity ships as well. I mean this in the nicest of ways, but the people that keep bringing up block boats really don't know what they're saying.

To be fair, people keep bringing up block boats because that's what they see now with zeppelin mod and whatnot, but clearly entities are the way to go.
This needs to happen very badly, especially with oceans as vast as they are.
Don't say Notch.
A cruel way of putting this long story short is Notch ran off with his money and left Jeb in charge...
Which I think was a good thing.

I am decent at Lua and Python, and am an expert with C, C+, HTML, Java, Javascript, and redstone. Gotta love redstone.
Mojang is shutting down Get Satisfaction...as much as I hate the fact they are doing so, there's not much I can do. I'm going to need to look for another place to put my idea, and I fear it's much too large to put here. What do I do?

No, Notch and Jeb simply reversed roles, is all.

Check out Boats Evolved; the fancy huge customizable boats Notch tweeted about brought to life!

But really, its looking rather bleak for jeb to implement it.
Then again, I SUPPORT.

I support, but with better made boats.

Minor word wall ends here.

A reckoning is not to be postponed indefinitely. Lacre cannot bury the law. All shall be well and all manner of things shall be well.
Edit:sorry takes geting use to saying Jeb
Edit 2: ok i get it sorry i changed it

Why should it be too big ?
