Tedious reconstruction? If you are so incapable of preventing a creeper from exploding next to your house it barely does any damage. It shouldn't take more than a minute to patch it up. I can understand if you don't have the the materials but that would be tedious gathering.
If you can't pay attention to your surroundings while building I suggest building a wall to keep them out. It's a simple concept. I don't understand how so many people have such a hard time grasping this idea.

Why should we be forced to build walls around everything?
What if we want to build a pyramid. Why should we have to light it up like a Christmas tree or build a wall or a moat around the ****ing thing or cascade water down the sides? That's stupid. We should be able to build whatever the hell we want, and still be able to fight mobs and go on adventures.

You can =/. Just be more aware of the structure damaging mobs, its easier than ever to see them at night with the brightness and you can also sprint. If a creeper blows up a couple blocks of your pyramid then it's just a couple blocks to fix it along with a little reminder that you should be more vigilant. It's not like it happens all the time, either. It only happens like once in a blue moon for me.
Unless you're on a server with tons of players keeping chunks active, it does happen all the time.
Literally days, months, in real world time, of endermen picking blocks apart and making circles on the ground.
Nobody on our servers should have to concern themselves with this nonsense. It's an unnecessary headache. Like I said before, time spent cleaning NPC griefing is time not spent on an adventure, nor being creative. It adds nothing to the game but pointless, joy crushing maintenance. You can concern yourself with that, if so you desire, but we should have the option of toggling it off.

This actually does make sense, you have swayed me.
Care to bring numbers to support that "majority" you speak of? So far I see it fairly balanced between haters and lovers. That's why the threads grow so quickly.
A couple of haters on a minecraft forum does not speak for 3 million minecraft users.

I don't really mind the concept of endermen stealing blocks, but i must admit they are broken...
They should not be able to pick up the following blocks: Adminium/Bedrock, Obsidian, Metal blocks, Chests, Furnaces, and some other blocks i might've forgotten.
Thats really all i'd be willing to support being changed, but i do believe you just need to make your bases Ender-Creeper proof. Hell, you can even be original, or be a copy-cat and create a large floating island with glowstone veins suspended above the ocean ^-^.
You want NPC griefing available to be disabled, because you cry every time a creeper blows up your crap, or are too lazy to install lava walls into your regular walls.
Also, because Endermen might cause your structure of sand to randomly collapse. Oh no. We don't want that. Because you spent so much time into it.
There's a mode called "Creative" that would like to have a word with you for number 2. Number one, all I can say is just be more aware of your surroundings. If Minecraft is too hard because of the mobs, turn it down a notch. And if it's even that hard then, then just quit. You're done. Seeing as you can't stand playing Easy as it's too hard, considering it still spawns mobs, you shouldn't be on Minecraft in the first place.
Most people prefer to not use the terms "Option to _____ _____", because it usually is a sure-fire indicator that the idea we're about to read sucks.
Finally, after reading the entire OP, I think that the haters have their logic straight. Just deal with it.

Yes, but the way he wants to play is to have those mobs there so he can fight them without worrying about his buildings. It would be a bit annoying if they were constantly harassing and causing destruction, why shouldn't people be able to play the game they want it to be played, isn't that the point of minecraft? It is a sandbox game after all.

Mods.
Texture Packs.
Skins.
All these are customizable things that no other Sandbox game has. Minecraft is customizable; but there are some boundaries. Some people want adventure, some want to jus tbuild crap. Thus, Peaceful was added for those who want to build, and Adventure is for those whom enjoy building.
Skeletons, zombies, spiders, blue spiders, ghasts, zombie pigmen, silverfish, etc. Love 'em all.
Just not normal world mobs that destroy blocks.
I have a question for you, if you hate monsters that can destroy buildings "normal world mobs", then wouldn't you hate ghasts? Ghasts can follow you to the normal world if you die near one and they follow you to your spawn point, and if you do this long enough, you'll make a mob (not meaning to sound second person, but it's just to prove a point). Plus if you really hated creepers, wouldn't it make sense to surround your building/structure with water? If the creeper were to detonate in the water, it would cause no block damage, but will still damage any players/enemies around it. If not, then you can use obsidian or anything with a higher blast resistance than that of a creeper. It's just a question and suggestion. Also, if you don't want endermen to get your stuff, surround your stuff with a light level of 7 or higher, or use water, because they're damaged by it, so they aren't too bad, especially on easy mode. They're actually the easiest mob to kill because they have 1 heart on easy and are damaged by numerous things. You have many options when dealing with these creatures, if you don't want them damaging your structures, you can always make them mob-proof. I'm just trying to help.
*by "make a mob" I mean making a lot of them appear in one area.
Some people want adventure, some want to jus tbuild crap.
The majority of us want both.
We can already disable NPC block destruction with mods, or playing on Peaceful, and I don't hear you complaining about that. Why would you care if we were able to enjoy survival adventure without having to worry about cleaning up some pointless NPC mess?
I have a question for you, if you hate monsters that can destroy buildings "normal world mobs", then wouldn't you hate ghasts?
I don't really build in the Nether, and to be honest, the Nether is kind of supposed to be a world of chaos, so I personally don't mind ghasts. But if other people wanted to disable ghast block destruction, that's totally cool with me. The more options for us the better.

No, I like to build cool stuff without some laundry list of security limitations.

Moats can look pretty good if you do it right mind. Just use your imagination, and you can even hide those features to keep it aesthetically appealing, remember; Sticky pistons are your friend, if there are some creepers in front of your door, push button to deject creeper!
Yeah, no. This does not need to be included. Anyway, where would you put the option? Wouldn't it also be a pain to code something that only removed certain mobs? Endermen burn in the sun, and Creepers only blow up if you're near them. If you want to keep your base from being destroyed, lure Creepers away from your base. Right clicking with an ender pearl gets rid of all Endermen nearby, too.

WOOT! MORE SHOOTY STUFF!
If Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter were all destroyed, 90% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 10% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens. (Griefing is an art. And a lot of dead creepers.)
If we wanted to play on Peaceful or Creative, I dare say we'd play on Peaceful or Creative. But we don't. Hence:
"From Creepers to Endermen, the tendency for some NPCs to wreak havoc on world blocks tends to ruin the fun of the game for those of us who enjoy the balance Minecraft offers between adventure and creativity, and the option to disable NPC block destruction would allow us to enjoy both elements without the unnecessary irritation."
Yes they do. It's been confirmed.
They move bedrock as well.
Prove it on current release. But this is a bad idea. Creepers have been around how long? Plus you can still do adventuring on peaceful...

The option he wants wouldn't turn off those mobs, but rather strip them of their block damaging capabilities.
Endermen won't be able to steal blocks, and creepers will harm players, not the environment.

Problem, Endermen?

Oh, and ender pearls have no uses. It's a myth.
I'm not even sure what you're asking here.
And, no, you can't do adventuring on Peaceful.
