This isn't Janitorcraft. Time spent cleaning up a mess is time not spent on an adventure, nor being creative.
From Creepers to Endermen, the tendency for some NPCs to wreak havoc on world blocks tends to ruin the fun of the game for those of us who enjoy the balance Minecraft offers between adventure and creativity, and the option to disable NPC block destruction would allow us to enjoy both elements without the unnecessary irritation.
For those of you who agree, please forward this to everyone you know, and help get the votes up so that Mojang gets the word :smile.gif:
Play on Peaceful or Creative.
Also, Endermen don't move player-placed blocks.
And good luck on nerfing creepers or giving the option to, they've been around forever.
edit: One more thing, a creeper blowing up your base is an act of clumsiness and absence of caution on your part, be more careful if you're playing on a higher difficulty.
If we wanted to play on Peaceful or Creative, I dare say we'd play on Peaceful or Creative. But we don't. Hence:

Fine. Since you like survival so much, and you like to order people around. You shouldn't be using blocks and torchers. After all, building is for the weak, unlike you.
I love building! I've built tons of villages and castles in survival and have never had any creeper issues. It's not like they rain from the sky. But if you can't handle keeping them away from your base then obviously there is something wrong. You need to surround yourself with more torches and such.
So show us evidence otherwise. The onus is on you.
Either way, it's an unnecessary headache in any form. Having the option to toggle it off would just be more reliable than mods for us. After all, I don't hear you complaining about there being Peaceful mode, Creative mode, or mods. So why complain about this? We have every right to stuff we want as you do.

I just don't understand why you wouldn't build on peaceful and toggle the difficulty back when you're done? It's not like you're fighting or "adventuring" while building?
1. It's not an option on SMP.
2. Toggling modes in the middle of the game is not a solution. The spontaneity of fighting mobs is still valued.
3. It wouldn't effect you for us to have the mere option, so it's pointless to continue railing against the idea.

if the spontaneity of fighting mobs is still valued then I'm sure it'd make the game more enjoyable for you knowing that there's also the element of danger when it comes to creepers enroaching on your territory, wouldn't it? They're a mob that is meant to cause area damage so they're more respected and feared, adding more reason to be alert as you play. Keep in mind they only blow up on you, so you're essentially letting them do this to your buildings. Make sure to keep cautious until you start building 3 blocks high, then you'll be out of range and safe.
They don't "sneak" up on you, either. They have an aggro range like any other mob. Once you're safe for 20 seconds you'll most likely be safe from there on out for a while.

Actually, the onus is on you since you're the one making the claim in the first place.
I love building, and I love creatures being a threat to my buildings. I had an enderman taking a wall block from my castle and a skeleton shot an arrow at me through it, and I was like:
-Whoa, what the hell!
I just don't think this is an option that needs to be coded, mods will come out to change this for people like you. I don't believe the vast majority of minecraft players likes to play with so exclusive tastes as you do.
I absolutely loathe creatures being a threat to my buildings. Cleaning up a mess is not what I consider fulfilling gameplay. It's an irritation, and nothing more. I could be using that time to fight mobs or build more cool stuff. Mundane activities like cleaning a mess have no place in video games as far as I'm concerned.
I'm not sure the "griefing" is a personal problem I have with endermen, but I see why people are making a fuss over this.
I believe they need to be tweaked, but I don't think they should lose the ability to move blocks. It should be tweaked to where they only move blocks while hostile to get you, and to make their own mysterious creations (I should observe them and see if they actually build something). I'd like to see, maybe, a block filter that the Enderman can and can't move during peaceful and hostile states (like, when peaceful, they can move naturally occurring blocks (Dirt, smoothstone, sand) and leave player placed blocks alone. But when they become hostile, they can and will move most (not all, like bedrock/chests/obsidian/furnaces/etc.) blocks to get to you, or to open an area for mobs to enter wherever you are to kill you.).
Ovus, I followed you here from another anti-enderman thread involving a mob grinder. I personally don't see the reason why anyone builds mob grinders (other than free items to make tnt/arrows/etc.), as most designs I've seen aren't aesthetically pleasing; they're just big boxes with a smaller box at the bottom. Seeing as how Notch and Jeb both have publicly stated their dislike for mob grinders, I think the enderman serve a just cause the way they are, but I also think there could have been other ways of sabotaging grinder builders... For example, no item drops if the mob is killed by hazards and not the player (which, if I read correctly elsewhere, that's what Notch/Jeb were considering. I'd personally welcome that change, as it could cut down on system resources having to not draw a bunch of items you can't see.)
Either way, isn't it easier just to edit your inventory to get the items, instead of bothering to build (or copy) a huge structure and stop at a collection point to get the items?
I understand this isn't only about mob grinders, it's also about great structures and the time/effort/materials to design and create masterpieces out of pixelated blocks. But on the other end of the spectrum is the fact that you now have Creative mode (or Peaceful difficulty, which has always been there, obviously) to build at your hearts content without worry of mobs lurking about and mucking things up.
As the game sits now, I think it's great, but far from perfect. You have your action (Survival) and your intellect (Creative). For those looking to have their cake and eat it too (build awesome things without worry of "griefing"), tough luck. Either bite the bullet and play, wait for a mod/setting/patch to come, or simply stop playing. Buy a truckload of legos, build and defend against your household pets (However, Mitten's the Cat won't care what blocks he moves either).
One more thing to understand: Notch may have released this game for Alpha/Beta testing purposes in the style most of us are accustomed to, the way we played Survival before 1.8. But what about the man creating the game? Notch had his own vision of this game, so he's going to change and create things in this game as he sees fit. Maybe his intention originally for Minecraft was this: to have two seperate playing styles. To build and create, or to Survive whatever his imagination throws at you.... I'll say this though, I can't wait for November.
Personally I don't like the idea a bit, the mode is called 'survival' not 'balanced' or 'creative'. If you want to make some nice town or something-go do it on creative, if you want the Minecraft experience without the danger-play on peaceful, however don't try to take away the fun of survival from those of us that enjoy the challenge because things aren't exactly 100% perfect for you.
However I would suggest that Enderman only be able to move sand, gravel, wood, dirt, and obsidian(cause it would make things interesting), but otherwise I would say leave things as are mob wise.

If you had any skill in fighting mobs in the first place, this thread wouldn't exist!
but really, I can see where you're coming from, but its not like creepers just explode for no reason. If you can't fight off a creeper before it explodes then how do you fight off skellys and spiders? Heck, personally i hate how skeleton arrows seem to stay in the block they're shot into for a few minutes, ruining the look of that block, does that mean I wan't skeletons removed from the game? Of course not, heck, spiders make my house look ugly when they're trying to climb up it, does that mean I want Spiders removed from the game? Of course not, heck, if you suck and can't fight off a creeper, and it blows up leaving a ugly hole in my house, does that mean I want creepers removed from my game? nope.
If you have a problem with mob greifing, then go to peaceful, if you have a problem with it on a minecraft server, then find a server that plays with mobs disabled. If you're not willing to take a chance when you try to get gunpowder from a creeper outside your house, then you don't deserve gunpowder.
Also, Notch has stated that he will never implement somthing that could completely ruin our creations, so even if enderman can move player placed blocks atm, I doubt it stays that way for long.

Yes they do. It's been confirmed.
They move bedrock as well.

Only been confirmed in pre-release.

Literally wants to play Minecraft with nothing but zombies and spiders.
lmfao
Just not normal world mobs that destroy blocks.
