I don't think anyone is that bothered by repeatedly re-placing paintings to get the design or size that they want, but I think it's a little sloppy, and could easily be fixed.
What do you think of this? Right-clicking a painting while it's on the wall will change the design. The paintings would have an order, so the smallest would always be placed first, and the bigger paintings come along after you right-click through all the small ones.

I'm always happy just 'cause there isn't a reason to be sad.
Don't take this as there is nothing that could cause sadness. I just mean it's pointless to dwell on it. I mean, depression is so boring.
I'd rather a gui of some sort (and making pictures just a little bit harder to knock down by accident), so that you can't just walk around right-clicking all the paintings in someone's house.

I'm almost 100% positive that this have been suggested before but i'll suggest it again anyways
I thought about this a little and this is a pretty good idea. The idea I came up with was there was a pattern so you at least knew which painting you were getting instead of it just being random.

That would be a pretty lame griefing attempt, I think. There's much worse things they could do, since it wouldn't be too difficult just to right-click it back to what you want it (griefers could do this now, and it would be much harder to get your desired photo back). If this was done though, paintings could be harder to knock down, since you wouldn't need to as much.
And a GUI would be pretty neat (that's like making your own photos, right?), but that's another suggestion. This is just a very simple, 1 click change, to make paintings slightly easier to use :smile.gif:

I wouldn't even call it griefing. It's just that people tend to put up specific images and destroying/altering them is always a problem, even purely by accident.
And a GUI doesn't mean you're making the image or anything, it simply means you get some sort of menu. I imagine it could be as simple as an image of the painting with left and right arrow buttons on either side to cycle through the paintings before you place it.

Ok, ok, GUI = menu (I need to touch up my google skills). That would be a little more complex, but also a little easier too (my idea didn't have a back arrow, so you'd have to cycle through again if you missed the painting you wanted).
Either way, so long as there's some method of controlling your painting placement, I think we'd both be happy.

I am THAT bothered, because I use the painterly pack with signs as paintings and its a true pain to get the painting i want, for example, it once took me 10 minutes to get the painting with an arrow pointing right.
yes! but it should only go up and sideways from the origin point block where you place it. I'm tired of putting the damn thing on the wall only to have it go past the floor
Are you kidding? wolves are great! And so much fun too! When ever I start to fight a monster they begin a game of "fetch the arrow" as soon as I shoot they jump right in front of the monster and catch the arrow in their anus.
