Am I the only one who thinks that this would be a really good idea? This way, we wouldn't have to be on the constant hunt for dungeons, or hack our games in order to obtain mossy cobblestone... this would be a good way to do it legitimately. It would also make sense, as bonemeal is used for primarily growing plants, so now it can be used to cover rocks with moss!
So what do you guys think? Should using bonemeal on cobblestone render mossy cobblestone?

TL;DR: +=?
No it shoud not. Mossy stone is only in dungeons for a reason. If it wasn't so rare what would happen? It could make things eather boaring for people that like to hunt for dungeons or it could make an imballence in SMP.

I agree too! another idea would be paint BUCKET OF WATER + DYE= PAINT
It doesn't make much sense because where is the moss coming from? Maybe also add seeds to the formula?

Don't dungeons offer enough rare materials already? I think making a mob trap out of them is enough, and bones are already moderately tough to get. I think it'd be a great balance. :smile.gif:
As much as I love mossy cobble, this does seem a little much. I mean, you can get trees wherever you are regardless of place, so the bonemeal on trees argument is moot. Mossy Cobblestone is exclusive to dungeons; I like it like that.
Of course, if this was implemented I wouldn't complain either.

"Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say that there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe." -Frank Zappa
Believe me when I say this, I would LOVE for that recipe to work, because dungeons + me = thousands upon thousands of deaths.
However, I feel that this would defeat the purpose of mossy cobblestone. I mean, Notch put it only in dungeons for a reason, you know? So I feel that by allowing mossy cobblestone to be crafted, it takes away from the "value" of the stone itself.
For example, if you happened to see someone post a picture of a mossy cobblestone castle (this is a metaphor by the way) with things are as they are right now, wouldn't that seem much more amazing compared to if your recipe was implemented and the same project was done? I think so.
Good thinking though, I love the idea, I just can't see it being put into play.
i can only imagine mossy cobble being made from cobblestone in the center of the crafting grid surrounded by saplings, besides that formula i don't see an alternative. i just don't see how bones+stones=mossy cobble, and it makes even less sense to put slime-balls in the recipe, i honestly prefer the regular dungeon harvesting to find mossy cobble, keeping it rare and valuable.
Moss requires water, not some powdered skeleton, if you want to be realistic about it.
I've gotten a rekindled interest in Terraria lately and wandered into an area I'd never seen before: Corruption.
Perhaps some form of hard-to-get corrupting block can be obtained in the Nether, that will transform cobble (within a given radius) in this way. That way, whichever harvesting method you choose, it's still a difficult or rare thing. Keeps it from getting dull.
Yeah, what if you had to place cobblestone down first, then put a patch of bonemeal on it. Then you place a single seed on the "fertilized" cobblestone block, and moss will grow on the origional. It will slowly spread outwards to a diameter of 3, at which point it will stop expanding. That would be good, I think.

Iron + Coal = Steel! What part of that don't you people understand? IT ALREADY EXISTS!
Yeah but bonemeal instantly grows a tree for crying out loud ;D Its a fertiliser, so it does make logical sense :biggrin.gif:
Then what is it growning? Air. When it makes tall grass or trees there is a is already something for it to grow on. Eg. Tall grass=fertilizer on Grass, Tree=fertilizer on sapling. That's why I suggested that you also add seeds in the crafting formula.

So? Why would we get wheat seeds from tall grass. Last time I check that is not how planting works. Seeds fit the best when it comes to making mossy cobble, as it is the most organic item in the game.

Well moss is a plant, right? And bonemeal is used to grow plants. But either way, slimeballs or bonemeal. :smile.gif:
Actually, it sounds a lot less logical since bonemeal makes plants and tal grass grow and slimeballs are slime and not moss.

Because it's a fertilizer, not a moss-out-of-thin-air potion.
At least from what i've heard. I heard he was going to make any exposed cobblestone eventually turn mossy.

Bonemeal on seeds makes wheat grow, as I recall.
