I think not being allowed to stand on open trapdoors would make for more interesting and challenging adventure map concepts. For instance, where you must jump between trapdoors as platforms.
Is this possible to code? I wouldn't have slightest clue about this, but I assume it must be.
You can stand on a 1 meter cube of wool without compressing it; I do not see a problem with current system implementations; and this also solves very little. Sorry; but I don't see a lot of reason for this.

I have no idea what the statement about wool is for or how it applies but he/she was talking in regards to adventure maps. If you can jump on top of an open hatch that would make lava/hatch pitfall/hatch type combinations not really a hazard. A similar type situation could be made with the upcoming pistons but the overall size, configuration, and effect may not be optimal. But, I don't think anything should be changed until pistons are released. No need to fix problems until they are proven to be actual problems.
