I think that it would be cool if you place water near a Hatch/Trapdoor and if the Hatch/Trapdoor is open the water will go through but will cut off if the Hatch/Trapdoor is closed. You could make so Much Mob Traps with that. I already have one but due to Water and lava not being able to Go through em I cant Finish my trap.
The Real Question is... DOES IT SHOVE WATER/LAVA DOWN A HATCH? But for everyones Sake Notch Should Just Implant this idea into Minecraft. Cause the Wild/Tall Grass we have now was A mod.
0 = Pison in off position
5 = Piston in on position
w = water
- = Any block

It blocks water in a 1x1 shaft. Hurray for logic.
Yeah though now that I think about it NO. Water Should have The Real Physics of Going down a Hatch! Without Mods! Unless the mod just makes the water be able to go through Hatches without items!

Its only a mod at the moment-- Jeb has said himself that he's implementing pistons into the game.
I don't think doors/trapdoors will ever be able to occupy the same space as water. Both trapdoors and water take up a block. See the problem?
Whenever water leaves a block the block turns in to air (and only air.) There are too many other combinations that would have to be stored in order for it to work otherwise. The great thing about pistons is that they create an extra block that gets rid of the water. Once the piston deactivates the block is turned back into air (notice that air again: Minecraft can't remember what block existed there before, so blocks are either displaced or destroyed.) The water is now free to flow through that air block without incident.
Water flowing through doors might be doable by creating a temporary water block on the other side of the block (like how one water grate mod does it), but the coding would get a bit complex for when the water has to flow through multiple doors in a row or if there is a water source already existing on the other side of the door (the source might get destroyed when the door closes.)
That's something I don't get. What do hatches do that pistons don't?
move objects. :tongue.gif:
What do hatches DO that pistons DON'T. NOT what do pistons DO that hatches WON'T.
I know that pistons move blocks.

I don't think your understanding it.
Hatches do one thing a piston can, and that's it. What is the unique part of hatches that makes them non-redundant from pistons?
Yeah Like I said PISTONS ONLY come into play if they CAN shove water/lava down a Hatch

That doesn't mean I'm not supporting though.

I KNOW THAT BUT DOES IT SHOVE WATER THROUGH A HATCH?
See Like I said WE may Talk about Pistons IF they CAN SHOVE WATER/LAVA THROUGH A HATCH
I support.

Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
