Im still reasonably new to Minecraft, im enjoying this game alot and a mate and I play together on a private server we run and have a blast. But one thing that is hard to do is to find accurate and up to date guides on how to create things most of the Minecraft Guru's do in a heart beat. Minecart stations with switching tracks is a great example, this is something im trying hard to do and get right and its hard lately because there are old guides, new links to youtube movies and the likes but not many step by step guides and nothing officially backed by the forum as the ulitmate guide
So what im throwing out there is what if we (the minecraft community) had an official place in the forum for in game tutorials on how to do "insert item here" and have the admins put polls up on the various guides and have the one with the largest vote count dubbed the official Minecraft forum guide on doing "insert item here" and maybe we could attach a user map of the offical guide so that new users have something to disect and play test first hand, while a great guide with pictures is good, being able to jump into the map and see first hand makes a huge difference (like some of the build maps for Duke 3d, they were tutorials that showed different stages of construction of a given thing so you could get your head around it)
I thought about this for a while and i figured if Notch / Mojang addopted these as official guides they could pop a link to these in the gui somewhere so new users will come to the forum and hoepfully have a positive knock on effect, and this could hopefully bring all the noobs and minecraft Guru's all together in the one place.

The wiki is just as vague and its explanation of how to make a railaway station is primitave at best as an example.
Im all for playing around with stuff but sometimes ya just need to be shown where the garden path is before you can walk down it.
If they don't know how to use google they shouldn't be playing Minecraft.
