I already have, in an earlier post....it actually DOES effect gameplay..on a subconscious level too. While playing it, it feels odd, using my mouse on the left of the keyboard, while controlling something always on the right....it feels a little off. If you could change sides of the arm it would feel a little more solid.
Yes, it's a "subconsciousness'" solidity feeling only. I understand perfectly.
When you say "it would help left handed players", what you are really saying is "it would help about the tiny percentage of left handed players which can't play as enjoyably when they don't feel that the stupid hand that is swinging on the screen is not their actual hand doing the actual swinging, then just because the hand that is doing the clicking is on their left side while the one on the screen is on the right side, they are unable to "feel it". Well Minecraft is not about feeling you do the action, its about the building, etc. It's not about perfect immersion. Gee, surely not, what with those kind of graphics.
Also, games with a lefty mode are those where the change is important for the actual user interface HARDWARE. Like in Guitar Hero, if the buttons (let's day) are A B C from left to right on the screen, but they are "C - B - A" under your hands, now this creates clear confusion, THAT is an important reason for a lefty mode. Most other kinds of games don't have -nor need- a lefty mode, and Minecraft is *no exception*.
Face fact: this is a VERY minor think to ask for so persistently, because it doesn't target all the lefties at all, only a *really tiny* minority of lefties. If every feature that would please only a few percent of players was to be added we'd need thousands of Minecraft coders. Note also that most of the vocal rejection here has been from lefties. The excuse that "it would be useful to some" must take into consideration just how many will be that "to some". Currently, its too small, and ergo not worth it.
As for the head bobbing, now this is something that too seems purely for display purpose, because it doesn't change the actual gameplay. But that is something which can potentially affect all players. But for a few small percent of players, to them that feature is *not* a frivolity (aka "I'd enjoy it more it feel awkward bwah bwaah bwaaah me me me and my special needs") but is actually something that is actually VITAL: for those players, the head bobbing movement actually makes them sick. For real. So heck yeah it was important to be able to turn it off. and THAT is the real reason being able to turn off head bobbing was implemented, not to please some sense of aesthethics and feelings of awkwardness of a small percent of players. Your "uncomfortableness" at having an "incomplete feeling" from seeing your left hand control something that is on the right of the screen simply pales when compared to that.
I'm a lefty too and hottadamn, when I play, I don't look at the stupid hand, I don't waste any attention time or even "feeling"" because it just is a useless waste of screen space. What I look at, and use my "feel" upon, are the blocks I want to interact with. The important spot to look in the screen is not Steve's hand but the crosshairs. The important feel is not identifying 100% with the stupid shape of a low-resolution pixel avatar, but making great builds and the social interaction. If everybody acted like you, next thing we'd know tall people and short people and fat people and slim people would complain that they can't make their avatar look like themselves and that it kind of ruins their enjoyment of the game because they don't "feel" like the avatar displayed on the screen is correctly displaying their wishes.
Now, if there was a setting that I could use to make not the entire interface but ONLY the stupid Steve hand (and whatever it's holding) disappear, now *THAT* I would find *extremely* useful, because currently the hand is not staying put well nearly hidden in the lower right corner, it actually takes up quite a good chunk of my field of vision. Seeing monsters is important!
So I'd suggest you get the hint and just drop it already.
Genius! I never really thought of this. It would really mean a lot to the Left Handed people. Not all of us are right handed. Even though it isn't necessary. As what they've said. Recognition for the left handed Minecrafters. I am not left handed but I support this idea.
anyways, i fail to see the use of this other than the aestetic one. if people say "we lefties deserve recognition", well, by that logic, steve would also need the ability to chose skin colors because else colored people dont get recognition. (not racisticly intented in any way, but it was the first example i came up with)
You already can. You can make his skin like a rainbow if you so choose.
I like the idea. I don't see a need for it to be top priority, but I would like to see it. And to some saying it's pointless having the option, how about head bobbing on/off in options? Is this not the same concept? Some people use it, some do not, but it doesn't change the game in a significant way. Left-hand mode would be the same idea.
I'm left handed but I've gotten used to using my right hand on the mouse. I don't really care if they added this. But I would not use it. It would just bother me to have it on.

Pointless? Uhh, no. It has a purpose. It makes the game more enjoyable for people with a dominant left hand. It is incredibly easy to code this kind of thing, so its not too big of a deal.
Stupid? No. Stupid would be trying to add guns to minecraft. This is simply adding another option that even though most will end up not using, will be important for the enjoyment of some.
The guy you replied to is left handed, and so am I. It is pointless, because most left handed people I have met, including myself, use their right hand for the mouse, because older mice were geared toward right handed users, and we never adapted. So being left handed, using your right hand, to control a left hand is very stupid and pointless.

Agreed. An example: Team Fortress 2 actually HAS a left hand mode, and I am left handed, but left handed is very irritating.
It would be cool to just change an option though. I can't imagine how hard it is for a left-handed person to play Minecraft with default controls. :/
It's not that hard actually. I play Minecraft with WSAD controls and I just place my right hand over the keyboard and my left hand uses the mouse left of my laptop. The only control that does get complicated this way is jumping with the spacebar. So I set jump with left Ctrl and crouch with left Shift.

Hi! I like shorts! They're comfy and easy to wear!
Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.

Plus it's not something hard to code. Support.

Sure and why not?

It's extremely easy. I've even played games with motion controls meant for right-handed people with no problems at all.
