It's my opinion too, like that matters in this discussion.
The big ant that seems to crawl around everyone's ass is that this is a sticky.
I say we need MORE of them. Suggestions seems to be the toilet of everyone's half-digested thought. I don't want to be exposed to that ****, and the less I see of it, the happier I am.
I would rather the main page be nothing but stickies on how to improve your suggestion and have a handful of good and decent suggestions than this steaming cesspool of 8~12 year olds that know everything, can't spell, can't take criticism, can't use their ****ing brains, troll-call when someone doesn't like their shitty idea(s), can't obey the rules and get offended when you ask them to, etc.
We need MORE stickies, damn it. We need more educated people with opinions to have a stronger voice; and those who can't be bothered to proofread their posts to have less of one.

so your saying we should censor someones ideas because you dont like them. I agree with the fact that this place is cluttered by stuff most people would rather not see. but honestly if the idea doesnt take hold nobody posts in it and it gets left behind. if it gets whined about too bad for them. not all ideas are good but nobody should say you cant post here cause your idea sucks. making a sticky on how to post an idea is ok but most just glance over it. i can make this same post about almost any idea that you come up with. such as why your x idea wont work for minecraft.
back in the day of morrowind in the mod forums we had a **** ton of people that would suggest really retarted things, most just got laughed in to oblivion... pun intended. but the thing is some of the really great ideas were also on the list of hey you cant do that here. or something that puritans hated. seriously, good points on the thread but wrong introduction. dont tell people in a suggestion thread not to make suggestions.

No, jackass, what I'm saying is what I posted above your response. Stop trying to shove words in other people's mouth; it is an enormous pet peeve of mine. I will tell you exactly what I'm trying to say because I'm SAYING IT. I'm saying if you don't use your ****ing brain; you don't need to have a voice. I'm not asking anyone to be a genius/rocket science. I am asking you to RATIONALIZE your opinion and form it into something worth reading. Rationalizing is not the same as logical progression, you can be completely rational, but be chock full of logical fallicies; as long as the intention is there, and the factors of inclusion are more than "because it'd be cool" or "you can toggle it if you don't like it". Whether you think my "requirements" are stringent is left to you, but these people are inevitably censored by their peers, ostracized and admonished for their grievous errors.

I am not saying you can't post here either. I'm saying to think before you post. It's a terribly difficult burden, but one that I insist on.

I have been in suggestions forums in other games long before MC. Conquer Online was the first place I made a serious leap into becoming a critic. I was young, and made many of the same mistakes as some of the less apt players here. I grew, I learned, I began using my brain. I am not perfect, I will STILL make mistakes, I will STILL have logical fallacies, people will still correct me (which I graciously thank them on); but the end result is that now I will use whatever method I see fit to improve the suggestion board in any way I can.
I OPENLY encourage new posters and old alike to send me a rough draft of their suggestion before they post it.
But, back on point; I do NOT discourage others from posting suggestions; I encourage them to apply rationalism, and, if possible, logic to the process before having their work flamed into the ground.

Ok so i started that out wrong.sorry about that. But either way the free exchange of ideas even bad ones can help create better ones. sometimes a bad idea can be repaired to a good one just by talking it out finding the flaws in the design and working from there. And actually i agree 100% about the 8-12 yro thing. my biggest complaint with the thread is the title like i keep saying the information is good but the title is rude as hell. That is something "I" would rather not see.
give it a new title that is less im a know it all asshole and your ideas are stupid and i can prove it just read here. and make it more you want to make an rpg idea thread well read these points and see if your ideas fall inline with the exact same problems these did.
honestly rpg or no i would love to see npc towns npc's wandering all over the place trying to survive like you. building houses storing goods and stuff like that, it would make the game seem less lonely and pointless. Don't get me wrong i love the game but sometimes just having a goal to accomplish sometimes makes it just that much better.

Alright, I'll give you karma there.

It's an attention thing; this thread is meant to capture attention as quickly as possible. The easiest method is blunt, rude, and insulting content which initiates the reader; if the reader is pissed, it's doing its job. Consider this like advertising methods.

That would be nice to see, but I prefer it from other actual players.
I'd just like to point out, for the record, that Minecraft does already have "RPG Elements"?
Armor that effects how you take damage: Check.
Weapons and items that have tiered or varied effects: Check.
Health measured in more than one hit: Check.
Inventory management: CHECK.
(At least, the people who call Monster Hunter an RPG would like you to believe that these are RPG elements. Whatever, they're morons anyway.)
You know what else has at least most these elements at any given time?
Ratchet and Clank. Megaman Zero. God of War. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Deus Ex. Bioshock. Borderlands.
To say that RPG elements wouldn't mesh with Minecraft would be to say that Minecraft is a schizophrenic mess of a game that doesn't even know what it's doing.
Now, I'm not saying Encumbrance would improve the game. I'm not stupid. But RPG elements have never and will never be a bad thing, when done intelligently. The problem is limited solutions to expansive problems.
I completely agree with the original poster, from the start to the end. It is true, very true. Let's make a little phrase to make other's understand "You can't simply sandbox into RPG". In other words, a building Sandbox game cannot be combined with an RPG game, even if Notch or anybody manages to make it, it will be completely flawed. I know making Minecraft an RPG is a nice idea, but seriously? you have no idea how much things you will encounter, defective things.
Trust me, and the OP, it's a very bad idea.
more importantly, why do people who don't seem to have read the thread come here to call it pretentious? No, don't worry, you're the first person to do so and all the other criticisms of this thread have been ignored rather than answered 2-3 times each by 2-3 people each.
Yeah, because most MMO's employ these systems ON PURPOSE to make the player of the game feel like they are accomplishing more than they think they are. Having lots of numbers everywhere and plenty of levels and stats to boost tends to give you a sense of accomplishment while you waste your time increasing them. It makes for good sales and increases the amount of time spent playing.
To be completely fair, it's not like Minecraft doesn't do the same exact thing. In the end, you accomplish quite literally nothing, but continue playing because you feel that you are.
do mods really not know what a ****ing opinion is?
I KNOW RIGHT?!
Stickies are for rules, and lists of suggested ideas. Not Kira's opinion.

Jeez, that sounds frightingly like The Sims.
