Hmm. I think the present way Notch and Jeb have talked about hunger may make a hunger-draining mob a bit more suited for the New Nether.
As I understand it now, Hunger is supposed to cause physical damage once it gets down really low. Depending on how fast the mob would drain it, that hunger could make for a more direct damage method than the Aether is thematically designed for.
It would still count as indirect damage, the same way Swets can pick you up and then drop you to injure you. Either way, I'd still like more concrete details about how the hunger system works before deciding what to do there.
I apparently missed a huge pile of crap while I was gone. Geeze, I haven't even played the Aether mod yet. I've been too busy trying to balance all the stuff that has gotten merged into the 2x2 crafting grid mod.
As "word of Grey" so to speak. I'm expecting to deal with the New Nether first, and then once that has been dealt with, I'll look into talking to Kingbdogz and the other Aether modders about accessing the base code to create a parallel Aether mod that would match up closer to the descriptions in this thread (possibly making it an option that can be set by the config file, or that will automatically detect if the New Nether is installed)
There's stuff that I know the mod simply did well or better than what I had originally envisioned in this suggestion, and there are other things that I can't even stand to look at. Those bridges will be burned as we get to them, but there's not a lot that arguing about any of it is going to do. I'm not swayed by popular opinion and I never have been. Logical arguments pointing out balance and playability issues are pretty much the only thing I turn an ear towards.
I think the aether mod is good how it is... maybe a couple changes, but not completely like this...
no need for that, sniggy. From his own perspective, he's right. On its own, there's nothing that really needs outright removed from the Aether mod, just some things that are a little buggy or unbalanced that need fixed. The problem is when you take the context and philosophy surrounding the New Nether & Aether combination that things need to be outright removed.
Any Aether Collab Mod related posts in this thread will be warned for posting Off Topic.
Please report any such posts from here on out.
I don't want to see this thread locked because I think there's still a place for it and it's unfair to shut it down just because a lot of people can't read.

Bumber, please get up to speed; We're discussing how THIS suggestion should be implemented alongside the New Nether, since the New Nether is taking steps towards becoming a mod. The most feasible way would be to use existing code from what is already in the Aether mod. The Current Aether mod is not otherwise being discussed.

neither does complaining about other people's posts, but it happens. The main issue that Spiteful fox is trying to stomp down(assuming logic) is people coming here to ask something or complain about something that should be going to the people actually working on the mod. If we're discussing this suggestion and how it should be brought into existance, when there's already a mod that has done that at least in part, then there's no possible way to avoid mentioning or comparing the mod to it, as long as the focus is on bringing ideas to the suggestion, rather than the mod, then it's perfectly valid to be here.
I honestly don't know what VA was asking (either his second sentence lost some words or he mixed up despite with despise) but either way, since I'm the one who is generally pointing the direction this suggestion is headed, asking my opinion on something does have relation to this suggestion, as it gives people a better idea of what type of changes to expect me to try to make or reject in this thread.
So, The End has been announced. Any ideas on how that could affect implementation of the Aether? Or are we going to have to start a New End thread so Notch can fix it before working on this? :wink.gif:

What would work in the End better than the Nether, though?

the end has been added.this probably will affect implementation of the aether.even if the aether was added, there would then be 3 realms and 1 normal world.so try not to have too many realms for minecraft
The End is Notch's personal creation. I think the whole reason he made it is just to say; "can you people please just let me make my own dimension the way I want it?" Plus the End is almost completely irrelevant to what this thread is (currently) about. So back to the topic.
I think that the Aether and New Nether really shouod be implemented together, although perhaps not as the same mod. Some part of the Nether rely on the Aether, and vice versa, so it makes the most sense to make them into mods side-by-side
I love almost everything about th suggestion. The only thing I would add would be an ore or something to make tools out of of some sort, and/or a tree type or plant exclusive to the Aether. Nice job with everything though.

^^Thread is very outdated, but the mod is coming soon^^
This was the original suggestion. Then a collaboration of modders took the ideas, ****ed them up somewhat. and made a badly-balanced but still quite highly acclaimed mod out of them. Now that the End has been implemented, and more than three worlds is getting silly, the thread has died a death somewhat.
I've played the Aether Collab and it's pretty dang awesome, great mobs, items, bosses, dungeons, trees etc. there are a lot of bugs but it's still the best mod out there by far. - is this the ****ed up one? so the mod is still good, it's just not what was suggested by grey?
So back to the topic, we looking to improve the nether to support the Aether or complete remaster?
PS.
Since the End is more like a boss level then a world, it's not that ridiculous, I still love the Aether more than the nether and the real world.
How the hell do i find the crap people replied to and what they wrote if the stupid notifications don't link me to the exact page?!?! FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

Actually I think the End can be relevant to this thread since given it's history in the official release. It started out as the Sky Dimension with a similar concept of the Aether as a heavenly counterpart to the Nether. Thing is that Notch did not like how it looked for some reason, and so implemented the more alien-like End. Whether or not Notch plans on adding a Sky Dimension in the future is another thing. Personally I think he scrapped the original Sky Dimension because it would have been too similar to the Aether and end up dividing the fan base over the comparisons, a.k.a the "it's been done" factor. However there is still speculation of a Heaven/Hell dynamic with The End serving as Purgatory.
So I was going to suggest that the End be involved in reaching the Aether...like building the portal out of End Stone instead of Glowstone. But then I realized that this would mean that you'd have to kill the Enderdragon to be able to reach the Aether. So unless there was another way to leave the End without dying, it would be a severe impediment on the accessibility of the Aether. Still some food for thought.

I've seen an Aether in collaboration, brain storm mode, doesn't have building blocks down yet.
I've seen an Aether that is being made and modded as we speak, with a to-do list with what mobs and items they need to implement.
I've seen an Aether that is fully built and even has a box cover thing, like it's out in stores.
And now one that is introducing a new nether? ftw?
I'm rather confused, are these all the same thing, or are they just spin-offs? What is real in this world? Why is box? D:

Nnno it's not.
The mod just really changed things.
