I know this forum gets millions of these every day, adding another one to the pile, I appreciate your efforts.
So currently I have this:
i5 2500k @3.3GHz ~150
ASUS 7870 ~250
MSI G45 ~115
8GB RAM ~80 (damn chile prices)
Corsair Builder series 500W ~55
Windows 7 ~100
Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 2TB ~110
aprox value (2012 or so) ~ 860
So now, thinking about saving up some money, and now that my current PC can't run some games on ultra (and Radeon doesn't like Java), thinking about selling it for a fair "chilean price" (equivalent to like USD$1200 or something lol), and getting a brand new one. Now here's what I'm finding based on price/efficiency sites (T'sHw).
link
CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($109.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($114.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($79.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Crucial M500 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($93.22 @ Newegg)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($54.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 760 2GB Superclocked ACX Video Card ($239.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($69.99 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)
Total: $763.16
Gonna swap out HDDs btw.
So tell me what you think, it's definitely cost efficient since I'm looking to sell the old one for a high price. Thing i'm looking for is a beast new one though, at least compared to the old one. Peripherals aren't an issue, and optical drives I can get for like $20. Thanks everyone!

Umm, that second build is pretty much the same as your current build. I kind of want to say it's a bit of a downgrade.
Budget?
What games will you be playing?
Do you need a monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc?
Budget is pretty much cheaper than 900 at most. Hopefully less than 800.
Play some MC, modded Skyrim, Crysis 3, pretty intense games most of the time. Can't seem to be getting a decent 60fps on ultra, which is what I would love to have now that the opportunity arises.
No peripherals required, already have them.

He said he was going to sell his current build and wanted to keep the current build under $900. Why spend money on an i5 when the 6300 can max games at a cheaper price?
Just keep the current machine if you really want to upgrade just swap out the GPU and the PSU if needed
there really is no reason to upgrade from the 2500K unless you require additional threads for whatever reason and the rest of the machine is similarly perfectly fine
Thing is, i'd like to have a completely new one so I can actually afford it. Since CL prices are so high, I can sell the old one for double the price.
An issue I see many people having is that Radeon cards don't seem to run in Java games, including my own. Google'd this quite a bit, haven't found a solution to it.

Well, if their is one that is better, I can stretch my budget a bit. AMD seems better however, due to their being more powerful ones (don't know about quality) for cheaper prices.
I guess I could stretch my budget to $1000 if needed.

Err, no, Java is entirely dependent on whether or not your OS supports it and how good your CPU is. Your graphics card has nothing to do with it.
Well, i've seen my card idle while playing MC, friend with a 680 and an i5 3750k (pretty sure anyways) gets ~600 fps while I get a measly 40-70. Don't think this is an error, as my google search results have shown many others with the same issue.

Minecraft's performance is almost entirely random. My 670 sometimes gets 30fps and sometimes gets 400fps depending on seemingly everything.
It isn't like other games, where you can say "my card is 15% less powerful so I should get 15% lower framerates." With Minecraft, "My card is 15% less powerful but gets 60% higher framerates" is a perfectly valid statement.
You're going to trust the people who think more RAM = better fps?
Most people that happen to turn up on Google searches haven't the slightest idea what they're talking about.
Okay, fair enough. Do you think the fact that PhysX is used in many games a selling point however?

What are these "many games"? I don't think I could even name 10 games which support PhysX.
Well I was speaking of those few at least, sorry for exaggerating.
Ok, so i've decided for the moment on the R9 280X (thinking this one might be the best, as it has a 1.08GHz clock speed compared to 850)
Is there a different processor that I could get? The i5 is pretty expensive, and I don't plan on overclocking (at least much) any time soon, any other recommendations?

Don't you already have the i5?
Just getting a new graphics card would increase performance just as much as getting a new build.
Any alternatives to the i5 however? Max Overclocking is not really too important for me, I just want something fast and powerful that in a couple of years I could boost some hundred MHz.

Everything seems decent except for the RAM. You could get better RAM for a bit less. And are you sure a 760 will fit in your desired case?
Didn't know about the size. I guess I could get a full tower if I need to. Any other suggestions though?

If possible, i'd like an NVIDIA card, heard wonders about them, and Radeon doesn't like java very much.
Wut?

Why are you suggesting a FX 6300 when the OP already has an i5? The 6300 is weaker: http://anandtech.com/bench/product/699?vs=288

Is there a better alternative to the 2500k? I feel I could afford a faster one (I know i don't need it, but for capitalism's sake :P)

As i said, planning on selling the current one at a high price so I can get a much better new one. If I don't do that, can't afford.
