Opening the system to modders would compromise everything. As UpUp_Away95 said, I would be SOL. People are already hacking games and creating and selling modded consoles. If that became commonplace and people weren't punished for doing so, everything would be ruined. Especially multiplayer games. I would just stop playing videogames all together if mods were allowed on consoles.
Microsoft bans Xbox Live accounts and consoles, be them Xbox One or Xbox 360, if they know people are modding. they will always be punished for it because it's not allowed.
Modding will never be allowed on the Xbox One or Xbox 360.

No, you are confusing hacking with modding...
There's a difference between the two.Microsoft ban people who they know had hacked their content or their console.
Microsoft is also against sharing source code to allow mods be more possible but mods are still possible and Microsoft does NOTHING to people with mods...

I know it's not allowed. I'm saying that if mods ever were allowed, those would be the kinds of things we can expect. Illegal mods ruin games as it is, that's why they should never be allowed.

Actually, the portal gun fits perfectly for Minecraft's main purpose.
Minecraft main purpose is to be a giant sandbox for you to shape in the way you want it and for you to basically "go wild with your imagination". The portal gun is probably one of the best tools one can have in a sandbox game.
Though I do agree that there are definably mods out there ruins the game but disagree that the portal gun if one of them... Like I said, it fits perfectly with the main thing about Minecraft.
What are you talking about? Yes, "Minecraft's main purpose is to be a giant sandbox," with what already exists in the game! The portal gun does not fit in at all! Absolutely not! It could not possibly fit in less!
Portal gun can pick up blocks and place them, thusly building in a whole new way using the world around you. That sounds like sandbox and a lot like what Minecraft is for. (Sandbox, building, etc).
I honestly love doing that. I find it fun.
So like I said, the portal gun fits just fine in Minecraft but then again... That's my personal opinion.
You might be looking at it in a whole different way than me... I'm looking at it as a tool to allow me to edit, build, and have fun in the world... Which is basically the main thing about sandbox games, like Minecraft, in my eyes... Thusly, to me, it fits just fine.
I know it's not allowed. I'm saying that if mods ever were allowed, those would be the kinds of things we can expect. Illegal mods ruin games as it is, that's why they should never be allowed.
Again, there's a difference between hacking and modding.
It is impossible for mods in general to ruin any game... (They could ruin YOUR game if you installed them and end up not liking them but if another person has said mods, they cannot ruin the game in general for you and everybody else. It's just not possible).
In My opinion I think mods such as tekkit and really fun mods should be allowed because then when you get bored of just plain old minecraft you could just switch over to tekkit or whatever other mod you have but as far as mods that let people cheat no those should not be allowed and i hope there not allowed

What this thread should be renamed to: "There better not be something that a lot of people are asking for that would be completely optional to use but I dont want it so it shouldnt be there." If you dont want it in multiplayer tell your friend to remove the mods. And if you cant trust your friend to do that, then you should get some new friends.

Absolutely not! I could however rename it to: "Opening the system to modders also opens it to hackers, scammers, and viruses." or "If you want mods in Minecraft, play the PC version!" Just because a lot of people are asking for it, that doesn't mean it's a good idea! Whether I install mods or not is irrelevant, the system would still be vulnerable.

How would your system be attacked if you installed no extra software onto your console?
OMG, y'all really need to stop. Never will be mods. DLC!? Maybe. Better Solution......4J gets the rights to use the said mods and create their own games to sell to the public. Instead of DLC you just go to the store and buy Minecraft: Feed The Beast or Minecraft: Tekkit and so on.

Consoles wouldn't be able to handle FTB and Tekkit. Besides, why should mods be allowed on consoles anyway? You can play the PC version instead and let the console versions stay the way they are. You want a place to use mods and I want a place where mods aren't allowed, why do you have to have everything?
I wouldn't rule out mods entirely on next-gen consoles. Sure, Microsoft nor 4J would allow modding on consoles to the extent that the PC version is capable of, but I believe if mods were to make their way onto the console they would come in the way that texture packs have to the console, and become DLC "Mod packs". Like texture packs, everyone would have the choice of purchasing, and activating DLC "Mods" and only able to play with other people who also have those particular DLC mods activated.
I think it would be great. I love minecraft on the PC because of mods except most of my friends arent PC gamers, but console gamers. They love the mods I have on PC and wish they were on consoles and if they were I'd definitly enjoy the console experience much more being able to sit comfortably on the couch with friends and a controller. At the very least I hope 4J does go with it and choose to develope DLC style mods alongside texture packs. Console has to wait so long between updates for new features, a dlc mod pack here and there would be a breath of fresh air into the console version.

I'm beginning to believe you have no clue what you're talking about... or have no clue what the definition of the terms you're using are. I mean, how can you possibly even believe what you typed when they didn't even create Minecraft?
First party developers create the operating system... in this case, Microsoft.
Microsoft Studios is essentially the only Second Party developer for Microsoft. They exclusively create games for Microsoft operating systems.
Everyone else is essentially a third party developer.
Mojang is an independent developer. 4J Studios is essentially a 3rd party developer for Mojang, Microsoft, and Sony.

I definitly agree he has no clue what he is talking about, ITS OPTIONAL, if you don't like it, don't use it.
Personally I don't see what the issue is here, if for example 4J came out with some new DLC tomorrow that allowed you to oh I dunno lets say build a portal gun, I don't see any harm in it, those who like it can pay, download and use it. Obviously that portal gun wouldn't exists in my world since I wouldn't have bought the DLC.
Just because I don't like it doesn't mean that others can't enjoy the experience if that is what they like. I can't see why on earth anyone here should begrudge anothers likes/dislikes. Minecraft, via enhancements or DLC is what we make of it. If you didn't like the DLC one host was using, find another or play your own game. Forcing people to play the game 'your' way in 'your' world is fine, but doesn't mean they can't play the game 'thier' way in thier own worlds.

If Xbox became an open-source system to allow modding, it wouldn't be optional. What, am I supposed to stop using Xbox just because I don't like mods? The point is I don't want Xbox to become an open-source platform, plain and simple.
Modding will never be allowed on the Xbox One or Xbox 360.

That I agree with. There are mods that would make great DLC. Like utilities including minimaps and waypoints for example.
I honestly love doing that. I find it fun.
