I did try fixing that a week ago, unfortunately I couldn't fix it.
Minecraft did something funny with the code for half slabs to get it to work.
If I remember correctly, they have a meta-data version of the plank that gets placed in world to replace the current slab, and the slab just calls the onRightClick (I think :P) method and checks if you have the slab in your hand, and decreases that inventory slot. The meta-sensitive version of the slabs just drops two planks.
This would be how I would go about it anyways. Although, you don't always actually click on the bottom slab with the one you are adding... meh, maybe I was just imagining how I would do it.
Fixed a few things today, the raspberry and blueberries haven't worked in ages, not even in 1.6.4 by the looks. So I took the time to fix them and the cocaplant code which wasn't finished when I found it.

EDIT: Found it - it was a combination of crossing Enchantment ID from More Enchantments and something weird in GraveStone causing the issue. We updated the IDs and dropped GraveStone - voila! Working server!

Sorry, I just have to speak up and say that I disagree strongly with the methodology of disabling vanilla functionality because the mod has a problem. I think it's dangerous coding practice to get into the mindset of "the game is breaking my mod!" when plainly, by the nature of the beast, it's actually the reverse. At the very least the vanilla biomes should only be disabled for Highlands worlds or if the Highlands Biomes In Default World config option is set, rather than globally. Dunno, just seems like once you start down that road you're going to run into trouble sooner or later. I would rather have waited for a more complete release, and in fact I will probably roll back to pre3 and do just that, making my argument a little pointless I guess, but I just wanted to throw that out there.

Mojang made major changes to how biomes generate in 1.7.2, so it doesn't place snow biomes next to deserts for example.
It's no longer a simply a case of just throwing random biomes into the default world. I've left the config setting in there in case I do manage to find a way to fix it, but for now it does nothing.
However, the event driven system for adding biomes can still add biomes to the default world (or indeed other mod's worldtypes), at the expense of making vanilla biomes hard to find, or fighting with other mods that add biomes. For example I broke thaumcraft's taint biome generation, which is still to be fixed in Highlands.
technical answer for anyone wanting to know
before 1.7 adding a mod biome was simply a case of calling
GameRegistry.addBiome which calls WorldType.DEFAULT.addNewBiome which then adds it to WorldType.biomesForWorldType
in 1.7.x, all this was deleted, all that is left now is an event driven biome replacement system Forge adds, which was never intended for this purpose. Creates issues like having your biome added to worldTypes you don't want it in, and the biome balance issues I mentioned earlier.
Anyway short answer, all the above is why there is no pre-release/official release at the moment. Rather complex to test and fix some of these issues. Took me 4 days to fully understand how the 1.7.x biomes work in detail, it's that complex.
Fixed the mountain biome class in 2.1.7. Didn't feel that this alone was worthy of a new version number. Re-download and it should be fixed. (3rd time saying this in ~2 weeks... at least it should be better than it was before)
The OP still says 1.6.4 has Mountain Biome crashes. Can we be clear whether the current version for 1.6.4 has the crashes, and perhaps get a fix? I'm happy to help backport a change to 1.6.4 if we know what the problem is.
It would also be nice if commits in github were tagged with what release version they correspond to. Where would I start to find the code for 2.1.7a ?
You may be already aware of this, but it looks like your default biome IDs have a conflict with some vanilla biome IDs. Specifically: 151, 155-158, and 160-167. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

EDIT: Found it - it was a combination of crossing Enchantment ID from More Enchantments and something weird in GraveStone causing the issue. We updated the IDs and dropped GraveStone - voila! Working server!
World set to 'Large Biomes' with

When I use the option above, I never seem to get ANY Highland biomes in my world. We don't have any other biome generators but when we were trying out Too Many Biomes (TMB), it did generate the Highland biomes just fine when using a Default World. Do we have to have some other biome generator to make this work? TMB was crashing when we did not use it and it tried to make a village build specific to TMB so we had to drop it, but do we need something like that in our mods to make this setting work?

I have better dungeons generating in the highlands' biomes
Wondering if the developer can tell me if Ocelots spawn in Highlands' "Jungle-like" biomes like rainforest.

Mojang made major changes to how biomes generate in 1.7.2, so it doesn't place snow biomes next to deserts for example.
It's no longer a simply a case of just throwing random biomes into the default world. I've left the config setting in there in case I do manage to find a way to fix it, but for now it does nothing.
However, the event driven system for adding biomes can still add biomes to the default world (or indeed other mod's worldtypes), at the expense of making vanilla biomes hard to find, or fighting with other mods that add biomes. For example I broke thaumcraft's taint biome generation, which is still to be fixed in Highlands.
technical answer for anyone wanting to know
before 1.7 adding a mod biome was simply a case of calling
GameRegistry.addBiome which calls WorldType.DEFAULT.addNewBiome which then adds it to WorldType.biomesForWorldType
in 1.7.x, all this was deleted, all that is left now is an event driven biome replacement system Forge adds, which was never intended for this purpose. Creates issues like having your biome added to worldTypes you don't want it in, and the biome balance issues I mentioned earlier.
Anyway short answer, all the above is why there is no pre-release/official release at the moment. Rather complex to test and fix some of these issues. Took me 4 days to fully understand how the 1.7.x biomes work in detail, it's that complex.
The OP still says 1.6.4 has Mountain Biome crashes. Can we be clear whether the current version for 1.6.4 has the crashes, and perhaps get a fix? I'm happy to help backport a change to 1.6.4 if we know what the problem is.
It would also be nice if commits in github were tagged with what release version they correspond to. Where would I start to find the code for 2.1.7a ?
