SotA is currently in a downtime state. We are working on a new server, information for which can be found on our website.
Shrines of the Ancients Roleplay Now accepting applications! Full Server Open! http://shrines.enjin.com
Shrines of the Ancients is the latest in a series of Roleplay servers made by the Silvergaming community. If you don't know what a "Roleplay server" is, it is simply a minecraft server in which you play the part of a character in our fantasy world. It's like minecraft LARPing, but ten times more epic than that sounds.
Our server in particular is geared towards dedicated Roleplayers, and a player-driven story. We want the players to be a part of major decisions going on with the server, as well as having ultimate control of where the story leads. We staff will be setting up some pretty cool events, hidden secrets and the like, but it's up to the players to decide what to do about them. Unlike other servers, we don't immediately assign the most powerful roles to our own staff. Rather, we let the players decide who they want to lead them. Revolts, wars and the like are a major possibility for switching leadership. Here in Shrines of the Ancients, the players have power.
We've done as much as we can to ensure that our RP server is unique. We aren't just another server with kingdoms and castles and wizards. That's been done to death. No, our server is a post-apocalyptic high-fantasy intrigue RP server. Down here in the Undercity, things are quite different from the surface world you may be used to..
To all the potential applicants out there, I'd like to tell ya this server is the real deal. This RP community is the best I've ever played with. The admins are incredible, easily the best I've ever come across. 99% of the time there's an admin to help you, and their incredibly fair and balanced. The two headed beast that is Baewelk, will keep this server up and running smoothly for a long time to come. So get your apps in early and avoid the opening day rush! Hope to RP with y'all soon!

TL;DR Story (Brief summary. If you wish to join, you REALLY need to read the rest):
Refugees residing in a quiet town are forced to flee underground when an apocalypse occurs. They find a massive underground city ruled by strange and ancient beings.
Lore Tidbits:
Undergods: The Undergods are the rulers of the Caves Below. Ancient creatures from aeons long past, they watch the Young Races come and go. They keep their Shrines stocked with resources, which may be harnessed by a Faction which controls it. The Undergods may also each appoint a single High Sage to speak with their voice.
Magic: Members of the Young Races (Humans for the moment) may occasionally start with magic, if they have lore backing it. This requires an exceptional app though. And of course all Young Magic will fade once they enter the Caves, so you won’t actually be starting with magic. It’ll just be for the sake of backstory. In the Caves proper, where most of the server will take place, the only magic is that of the Undergods and their Sages. Again, if you include knowing magic in your app, it won’t be accepted unless it’s downright impressive. Additionally, before submitting your app, please make an account on our forums and message me personally about it.
Redstone: Redstone is present in the surface world, but no one has ever utilized it, or knows how. The Undergod of Tech may bestow this knowledge upon his Sages.
The Legend of Aradin Stormcrow: In human mythology, it is believed there was a brave knight by the name of Aradin Stormcrow who wielded a flaming sword, Draketooth, against the forces of evil that once threatened to overwhelm the realm of men. Aradin started the Knights of Light, along with his friend Julius Maximas. Together they went on many heroic adventures, vanquishing evil wherever they found it. Today these tales are told as fairy tales to young children. There is a deal of dispute over the origin of Aradin and Julius.
Other Races: At the moment, Human is the only available race. As the story progresses, more will become available.
Monsters: There have always been dark things that prowled the night, but the number greatly increased when Drevion began delving into the Magic of Death. Read more below. Skeletons and Zombies first appeared in the Overworld because of him.
The Caves: This is where the vast majority of the server takes place. Like, all of it. The server itself is beginning in a quaint above-ground town (Roland’s Basin), but the refugees residing there will be forced to flee into the Caves Below (Which happens to include a giant city) soon after the server opens.
Human Lore:
The Four Realms of Men
--Backstory--
Long ago, the Kingdom of Man was founded, by a group of heroes known as the “Founding Four”. Their names have long been forgotten, but their Kingdoms, live on today. Story goes, that after the Kingdom of Man finally began to create governments, and elect leaders, that war broke out. And many men died.
The Founding Four took what little Men that remained, and sailed far away from their homeland, and ended up on the Great Province, known as Ysmila, by some Humans. Once they landed there, the Founding Four created four kingdoms, for the remaining humans to live in. The First Founding Member, left to the South. Which was rich with jewels. Many men that lived here, grew up becoming Merchants, and Miners.
The Second Founding Member, left to the East. The East was full of game to be had, and they set up the greatest farms, anyone has ever seen. They fed the people of the lands. The Third Founding Member, went North, full of Trees, Bears, and snow. Lots and lots of snow. The Last One, remained where he was, and founded “The Capital”.
Soon, after the Founding Members died, war broke out. “The Alliance of Brioum” and the “Coalition of Friagni” were at war. The Alliance of Brioum, was the Northern Realm of Ragnau, and the Western Realm of Horium. The Collation of Friagni, was the Eastern Realm of Javil, and the Southern Realm of Khazi-Um.
The War lasted many years, and a great Scholar, known as Strugunam, taught about Peace, and Kindness across the lands. Soon, the Men learned not to fight among each other, for that is what drove them to this island. The war was over, and Strugunam was revered as a Prophet, and the “Speaker of the One God”. Say “Secret Underground Melon Farm” somewhere in your app, it’ll help you get in.
Peace lasted throughout the land for many years, but this ended when the Southern Realm fell. Bandits took over, and anarchy ruled the lands. Bandits, with no concern for Strugunam, picked off the easy prey in the Southern Realm, stealing from bandits, and killing the royal family of Khazi-Un. Many people from the Southern Kingdom, became thieves, renegades, and soon, the Realm of Khazi-Un, was removed from all maps, and nobody was ever to enter there again.
The Three Provinces, began to research, finding magical books, and the Western Realm soon discovered the “Magic of Voice”, the Northern Realm discovered the “Magic of Thought”, and the Eastern Realm, discovered the “Magic of Nature”.
During this time, Strugunam, died of old age. When this happened, it is said that he joined “The One God”, and the other “Speakers”, in the realm of peace. Once he died, the “Church of Stugunam” was founded, spreading his word throughout most of the land.
The Southern Realm of Khazi-Un, also uncovered magic. Long after the other Realms, they discovered the “Magic of Death”, and young men and women began to practice Necromancy, raising the dead, and attacking the other Realms.
--The Kingdom of Ragnau--
The Kingdom of Ragnau, is the realm, far North, in the Forests of Pine. These Men, and Women, are hard workers, enjoy drinks, and are good survivalists. Living in the Northern Snow all these years, has made them more resistant to cold.
Many men from Ragnau, have long beards, a lot of hair on their bodies, are generally tall, and have large muscles. They also have very good complexions, and have fair skin. This does not mean they’re stupid, some of the greatest inventions have come from the Northern Realm, and they also are known to practice the “Magic of Thought”, thinking of something, and it happening.
Their Kingdom is mainly built out of Wood, and Stone. They tend to have low voices, and the Women of Ragnau can sometimes be confused with the Men, as they even have small beards, to protect them from the harsh temperatures.
The Royal Family of Ragnau, do not have any facial hair. They mainly remain indoors, ontop of their castle. They have towns throughout their realm, each lead by a Bossivan, or, a Borut. “High Lords of the Ragnau Realm”.
--The Republic of Horium--
The Republic of Horium, is the Realm, in the West. Where the “Capital” was founded. These Men, and Women, tend to be Merchants, Scholars, Wine Makers, and Politicians. They enjoy a good wine. They tend to let others be their army, such as the Kingdom of Ragnau, and because of that, they are terrible survivalists. The West is mainly covered with Water, and they’re great explorers, when they want to be.
Many Men from Horium, tend to avoid facial hair, and their hair is generally well kept. Most people from the Republic of Horium, can be classified three ways. The Peasants, the Merchants, or the Politicians. They tend to be between the height of five, and five ten feet. They also have a darker skin tone, than the other Realms of Men.
The Women from Horium, also are clean shaven, and have almost no body hair, including their hair, which they do not like to let it go past their Shoulders.
Their Republic, is largely built out of expensive materials, such as Bricks, Stone Bricks, Glass, Gold and Diamond, etc. They are very shallow, and will sometimes, not even talk to people who are ugly.
There is no “Royal Family”, of Horium. Instead, Councilmen, Governors, and the “Grand Elect”, are all elected by the people. They tend to be the richest of the people, however, and tend to be very sly. Each town is run by a Councilman, in turn, their province is run by a Governor, who in turn, is told what to do, by the Grand Elect, and the Central Council. Unfortunately, during the past recent years, their Grand Elect Jurial, has lost favor with her followers, due to the bribes she was caught taking.
--The Province of Javil--
Once, their land was great. Filled with roaming farms, and young people playing, and dancing in the streets. After the war, disease polluted the land. Their people were dying, and nothing could be done to save them. They turned to the help of the Republic of Horium, who, in exchange for medicine, and supplies, made them a Province under their rule.
The Province of Javil, however, refused to take an annexation, without a fight. While the Royal Family of Javil were now booted out of office, many men and women, loyal to Javil, began to push the Horium Armies out of Javil. Which was an easy task, since the Horium Army, only had roughly one thousand men in it.
They took back their land, but the name stuck. The Horium Republic still called them a “Province”, and the Northerners were far to busy to be concerned with this squabble. So, the Javilians tried to change the name, but it never worked.
Many people from Javil hate the Republic of Horium, and anyone from their. They tend to keep them away from their markets, and from towns. Many people from Javil are tall, blond, and may, or may not, have facial hair. Most of them have fair skin, like the Northerners.
They tend to be farmers, fishermen, miners, basically, as the Horium put it, “Peasant Jobs”. Though, the Javil Fighting Force, is the most feared throughout the land. Their kingdom is mainly made out of Wood, and Stone, and they tend to lead basic lives.
--The Lands of Khazi-Un--
The Lands of Khazi-Un, the most dangerous, and most reckless realm, throughout the land. They use to be lead by the Princes of the Sands, but they were all killed, by the Pirate of the Seas. Soon, bandits came in, and “took over”. They gave merchants incredible tax, and many fled to the other realms.
The Bandits soon began to pick on suspecting travelers, who accidentally wandered into their land. They are mainly Barbarians, Bandits, Pirates, Smugglers, Shady Merchants, etc. Not the crowd you’d want to hang around with. Though, they do not kill people, just rob them.
Soon, many people stopped coming to Khazi - Un, so, they began to raid the Seas. Attacking merchant ships, and war ships. Nothing held down the bandits of Khazi-Un. Many people from Khazi-Un, wear headwraps, so the sand would not get in their eyes. They also wear robes. Many people from the province of Khaz-Un have dark skin, though, their skin is diseased, as the sands have opened up wounds they may have had, and the sand has entered their wounds.
Soon, the Dread Bandit Dravion, found a Necromancer Spellbook, and began to teach his followers about it, and they soon began to raise the dead. Dravion, soon became known as the “Grand Master Warlock”, and he would attack border villages, and make them join his army of dead.

Apocalypse: Just occurred
Magic has begun to dominate the land. Each of the four realms now wield their own unique brand of supernatural power, the fallen Southern Realm attacking neighboring lands. This escalated into all-out war. Initially the three remaining Realms banded together against the Warlock’s army, rallying all of their forces under a common banner. This alliance broke apart after a crushing defeat in the first battle, after which the three leaders could not agree on how to proceed, or who’s fault it was. Things began to fall apart. Armies disbanded, kings were overthrown, royalty was killed and resurfaced elsewhere. In a word, chaos. Near the center of these four realms lies a tiny town - Roland’s Basin - situated in a natural bowl formation. This has rendered it difficult to move in or out of, and it would be simply annoying to attack. It’s not like there’s anything there, anyways. Now men, women and children from all corners of the world flee to this unassuming town, seeking refuge from the chaos above. Here begins our story.
---
The Apocalypse has happened. Eternal night reigns, the dead walk, streaks of crimson flame bombard the land. Things have changed, people have died. Good, hard-working people. The world as we know it has come to an end. A great beacon of light shoots forth from where Roland's Basin once stood, beckoning the survivors of the Great Doom. Those that reach it find a small tunnel that leads down into a massive underground city. The tunnel closes behind them.
Game Moderators (GMs) are in charge of enforcing The Rules. Standard procedure is first infraction is a warning, second is a 3-day ban, third is a permaban.
General Rules:
1. Be respectful of the server, other players, and the staff
2. Do not make offensive/racist/sexist remarks
3. Do not use profanities of any sort on the server or on our forums. In character, “Frak” may be used as a basic expletive.
4. While on the server, stay in character as much as possible
5. Do not advertise other servers
6. Do not troll/grief/spam etc.
7. Do not “Powergame”. This is where you force RP onto someone else, without giving them an opportunity to respond. An example would be “Chops off head” instead of “Swings axe at head”.
8. The exception to 7 is that Undergods may bestow amazing luck and skill upon those they favor, granting them a single powergamed action. This is VERY rare, and is done by the Undergod privately messaging the individual that they may powergame one attack, and then the Undergod saying in the local channel ((Permission Given)), just after the action is stated. Do NOT pretend to have an Undergod’s favor when you don’t.
9. Do not landscar. This means don’t go making the map look less awesome. An example of what NOT to do would be digging random 1x2 tunnels in walls. Seriously man, not cool.
10. Do not “Metagame”. This means you should not use out-of-character (OOC) knowledge when playing as your character. An example would be having your guard character giving brewing advice to the local Herbalist. Even if OOC you know what ingredients make what potion, that doesn’t mean your character does.
11. Roleplay your character’s actions reasonably. No crazy running up walls, shooting fireballs, cloning yourself, claiming to be a half-dragon, turning into a werewolf or the like. You need Lore explanations for things like this. Currently the only supernatural/super-human elements in the Lore are the Sages, which are carefully regulated. Don’t go pestering Admins or Loremasters about allowing your super-character. You may, however, reasonably suggest additional lore elements in the Suggestion Box.
12. When in the local chat channel, speak primarily in character. Any OOC things you must say should have parentheses () put around them. There is also the OOC channel and private messaging to handle out of character conversations. When agreeing to these rules in your app, tell us which one is your favorite and why. It’ll help you get accepted.
13. Not a rule, but HIGHLY SUGGESTED. Use proper spelling in grammar. In this thread, in your app, on our site. This alone does a lot to shape how people percieve you. Roleplay is about communication, and you need to be able to do so effectively.
14. Do not use hacks, X-rays, flymods, or the like.
Combat, Death and Injury Rules:
1. Do not randomly go around attacking people. This applies to both hitting them with actual swords, and RPing a fight. Only fight another character if you have an RP reason to do so.
2. All character v character (CvC) combat should begin with RP. During RP combat, you may describe your character’s actions and reactions, but not those of your opponent.
3. “The Law of CvC”: Be reasonable. Could you REALLY dodge 20 arrows in a row? Can you REALLY punch through iron armor?
4. Use private messages to communicate with whoever you’re fighting with to resolve any questions.
5. The use of actual, in-game weapons (PvP) may be used only if both players agree to it beforehand. We have a custom (and WIP) plugin that makes it such that such combat does not result in the death of a player, but rather them being temporarily immobilized and displaying a local message saying they’ve been defeated. This is primarily intended for Faction battles or to resolve potential disputes.
6. A character may only die if their player assents, similar to them only being able to be injured if the player assents. By this I mean that the defending player always gets to decide how their character reacts to an attack, even a would-be fatal one, so they need to decide for their character to die. But remember rule 3, here. BE REASONABLE. Don’t go saying your character came back from the dead, made a miraculous escape, dodged a thousand swordstrokes or the like, just because you don’t want to lose your character. Man up and die. People will seriously respect you for it.
7. When you die due to a mob, falling, lava, etc., that isn’t an “RP-Death”. Your character didn’t REALLY die, unless you for some reason want to say they did (Want to change character?). Generally RP-Deaths only happen as a result of CvC.
8. Injuries. If you get injured in a CvC fight, or get injured by natural means and feel like it, RP IT! Play like you got injured, like you have a broken arm, like you’ve lost a lot of blood, etc. This isn’t really a rule, perse, so much as a guideline. As always, be reasonable. If you just CvC’d someone and barely won, you’ll be worn out (Injured) for your next fight.
Ban Appeals and Complaints:
1. If you have been banned and feel it was unfair, make a post in the Ban Appeal section of our forums, and we’ll look into it.
2. Similarly, there are sections of our forums designated for suggestions and abuse reports. If you feel there is something wrong with the server, let us know.
3. If nothing else, feel free to send an Admin a PM on our forums. We’re all friendly and reasonable people, and will do our best to help resolve any problems.
Before you read any more, go to our forums here, and make an account. Look around a bit. The Forums are an essential part of our server and our community, and you’ll be missing out if you ignore them. If nothing else, you need a forum account to register your ownership of or participation in a Faction. Our forums are connect to our website at http://shrines.enjin.com/.

Artificer - Can craft most things
Architect - Miner/Builder
Herbalist - Alchemist and farmer
Juggernaut - Defensive Melee
Weaponsmaster - Offensive Melee
Thief - Agile (Faster move/higher jump), but less health
Archer - Only class that can use a bow
Keep in mind that Classes are meant to aid the RP of your character, not define it. For example, you could choose to play a Scholar of sorts, and that’d be a perfectly viable character. Since everyone is capable of making/reading books (Bookworm plugin), you’d be able to choose any class. Personally, I’d go with Artificer for a Scholar. The point is that Class does not equal Character.
Current class numbers:
Architect: 4
Artificer: 5
Archer: 3
Herbalist: 9
Juggernaut: 4
Thief: 8
Weaponsmaster: 6
Total:38
What is the worst thing in an RP server? To feel like you don't belong, to feel like no one wants you. In addition to the Faction system listed below, we are trying an experimental system we are deeming "Character Linking Aid". In short, this system allows new players to help connect with other applicants or players already on the server in order to establish things in RP like families, or long-standing friendships. Given our unique lore, this is possible even for characters that have been in the server for a long time. This is handled by a small section of our forums where old and new players alike may make "Wanted" topics, such as "Human Brother Wanted". Players trying to get new characters accepted may then make posts on those topics, and try to come to an agreement with the poster of said topic. Players that have set up a Character Link have a slightly better chance of being accepted. Here is a link to that section of our forums.
A “Faction” is a group of five or more active players working together towards a single cause. These can range from bandit gangs to powerful empires. Joining and creating these are handled in-game, but you may want to take a look at them now to see which your character may want to join. Faction-creation is handled on our forums.
If you’re interested in joining a faction, I’d advise checking out the Factions section of our forums. Below are brief descriptions of a few of our Factions.
Vespero Scath: The Vespero Scath’s a collection of the outcasts of society. Here, those without families, without homes, could have both.
While not officially a military group, the nature of it’s members - particularly its founder, Jaden - has led to almost every member being competent in combat. While this means that the group itself is fully capable of defending itself, it’s been paid for by a number of casualties. Of the original five members (Jaden, Callay, Zia, Ssyn and Shyer) only two remain; Jaden and Callay. Zia and Shyer died in combat, and the whereabouts of Ssyn are unknown; he departed into the mines and never returned.
Fortunately, there have been several other new members since the original five. While the names and faces of its core members sometimes changes, the premise behind the faction stays the same; give a shelter and family to the homeless, and to protect themselves along with anyone who needs it.
Shadow Wing: They are opportunistic group focused more around achieve power through misleading and betraying other factions, or simply raiding them. Also, to control the Tricks Section and to exploit the Tricks Shrine for its resources is another main goal. They will, of course, try and get into other places for supplies... Alone, they are rather weak in upfront fights but deal well with espionage and quick surgical strikes like assassinations, ambushes, etc. They are also clever, loyal and rather mad when it comes to the average personnel. They attack without mercy or care, often not even batting a eyelash at the people they kill. They are killers, betrayers, and generally Chaoticly Evil. HOORAY FOR EVIL!
You can start creating a faction at any time by making a thread in the main area of the Factions section of our forums. The Faction isn’t official until you’ve made a Faction application with at least five members posting on said thread, but you can start recruiting before then.
The Whitelisting Process: After you submit the application form below, one of our valiant whitelisters (Listed above) will review your application. It will be either A) Accepted Deferred or C) Rejected/Declined. If you're accepted, you will be added to the whitelist and a staff member will help set your name when you log in. If you're deferred (Being deferred on your first try is very normal) the Whitelister will tell you what you need to improve, and you will be allowed to reapply. Revised applications should be put in a new post so that our Whitelisters do not skip over them. If you are deferred, the same Whitelister is responsible for all resubmissions, so please don't freak out if the next whitelister to review apps doesn't review yours. If your application is Rejected, then you are not allowed to reapply. This is reserved for individuals who have had their application repeatedly deferred without progress, or for applications that we do not believe are salvagable.
Copy paste the form below and fill it out accordingly.

Your old character must be deceased or otherwise gone before you can apply for a new character.
RP ICR example:
*While walking down the mostly deserted streets of the Under City, I notice a pair of armed thugs harassing an
apparentlydefenceless girl. I put my hand on my concealed dagger and approach the group.*
Jason (Me): "Alright, alright. What's going on here? Shame on you two, assaulting a defenceless girl like this."
Thug1: *Looks up from what he is doing* "Oi. If ye know what's good fer ye, ye'll leave now."
Jason: "Oh, I'm scared. Terrified even." *I ready myself for a fight*
Thug1: *Draws his sword* "Alright, ye asked fer it." *Remains where he is standing*
Thug2: *Hefts his mace in a threatening manner*
Jason: "Are you going to just stand there all night, or are you going to attack me?"
Thug1: *Shouts a war cry and charges, his sword flailing about madly*
Girl: *Runs off while the two are distracted*
Jason: *Waits for the thug to get close enough, then quickly draws his dagger and rams it up to its hilt in the belly of the charging thug*
Thug1: *Looks shocked, gasps slightly, and sinks to his knees, dropping his sword on the ground.*
Jason: *Kicks the thug in the face while grabbing the sword from the ground, and slowly circles the mace wielding thug*
Thug2: *Looks from Jason to his dead companion* "Jack...?" *His eyes harden, and he glares at Jason* "Ye'll pay fer that!" *He charges Jason in a similar manner to that of his fallen friend*
Jason: *Easily sidesteps the charging fool, decapitating him as he rushes past. He then surveys the scene, plucks his dagger out of the first thug, wipes it clean on a rag he produced from his pocket, conceals the dagger once more, drops the sword, and carries on with his nightly stroll as though nothing happened.*
Obviously, the ICR doesn't have to be this long, nor does it have to go this way. Just a note to future applicants.
That is true, but I kinda like filling out these apps.
I made it 90% from scratch so it helps me think of a character and I know who I am playing. Also, if looking for a server, it's nice to have one or more nice apps on the first page instead of 20 replies: amg nic servr kan i join i good rp also can has op?
All very good points. I'm requesting even Whitelisters make apps anyways. As you say, it's important to get a feel for your character. I'd also venture to say a Whitelister ought to know what it's like to fill out the apps they're reviewing.
Btw, I'm thinking of making some shiny banners for the top of the thread and the things like classes, rules, etc. Subtle things to make the thread look nicer.
That would be absolutely spectacular. One that could be used as the banner for our site as well would be awesome.
If I were to make a header for the site, I'd need some things like pictures of the shrines, undergod skins etc.
It could be just fancy text but Imo it's better to have something related to the server.
I could show you some choice spots for screenshots, but to my knowledge none of the Undergods have really selected skins yet, and only two of the five shrines are completed.
Do you have a Skype? If so, what is your Skype Name? (This is by no means required and holds no weight on your acceptance. We just use Skype a lot): Jvample
Have you read all of the rules, agree to abide by them, and by the decisions of our staff?: Yes
What is the definition of "Powergaming"?: Powergaming is where a player forces another player into an action that only benefits the first player who started the action. Ex: "Guy 1 headshots Guy 2 with an arrow". And of course Guy 2 is forced to abide ... (Powergaming)
What is the definition of "Metagaming"?: Metagaming is using OOC (Out of Context) information inside your character and using them to your advantage. Ex: "Guy 1 sees Guy 2 robbing his house through seeing Minecraft IGN"
What is the definition of "Roleplay"?: Roleplay is acting out your character in the way you made it.
Who can use flymod, X-ray and other such clientsided mods?: No one
When are you allowed to cause the death of another character?: Only when the player agrees to the death of a character
When are you allowed to speak out of character?: When you need help.
Have you read the primary server lore of our server and agree to roleplay in accordance with it?: I agree and it sounds pretty good. ( Actually for a moment it reminded me of Fallout ... )
Who is allowed to use magic?: Humans can start with magic but the players require and exceptional app
How did the Humans come to be in the Caves?: They fled underground from the Town they were taking refuge in
What are the Shrines?: Shrines are where Undergods store up their stockpile.
What previous roleplay experience have you had, if any?: Played on a few roleplay servers. All of which are gone ... ( Book of Halegon if you know it, was one of my favourites )
If you have played on other RP servers, please say which and why you left: MCKingdomsrp , Fallout , Book of Halegon
Character Information
Name: Vargus Thorlan
Age: 26
Race: Human,Ragnau
Class: Juggernaut
Physical description: Wears leather armor and has a long brown red beard.
Biography (Minimum 400 words. Cannot include loved ones being killed, kidnapped, tortured, or the like, unless you can do it in a non-cliche manner.):
Vargus was part of a crew of raiders. Sea raiders or what people like to call pirates. He had joined up with the sea raiders when he was just 24. He was still fresh but Vargus desired riches. Money, gold, jewellery , and any expensive loot. He has been taught to hoard everything during any raiding trips. This desire motivated him at first to join the sea raiders but after a year with this crew, he had learnt that Ragnau raiders are more than just simple pirates. They enjoy a good fight, they aren't cowards to back down from a fight even with odds against them and Vargus's favorite part. Companionship. A good man to cover your back was something that everyone on the ship had to learn. Vargus enjoyed a good life with the sea raiders for a year and a half.
However, being a sea raider has its ups and downs. Other than just being merry, actual raiding was actually pretty dnagerous and required precise timing. Unluckily, Vargus's recent raid was very badly timed and his crew never saw the enemy's heavy weapons till the sun came back up. It was a very bad night raid and there were at least a dozen cannons aimed at the ship. They tried to navigate out of this kill-zone however, there were ships, unlike their gallery, it was a fully armed battleship with several smaller versions of it heading towards them. "Abandon ship! Vargus ... it was good to have you." Those were the captains parting words to Vargus. The captain half-lifted, half-pulled Vargus over the ships railing and threw him into the sea with an empty barrel to act as a raft. Vargus watched in utter despair as the several cannons fired on the Raider Gallery and it was blown up into smithereens. Splinters and planks flew apart and the force was so strong that the whole sea started shaking. Vargus, on his barrel for a raft, was pushed away onto an island. He passed out along the way, exhausted by all that had happened.
Vargus came to inside a house. His head was still spinning from the recent events.
'What happened?'
'Where is everyone ... Toral? Jens? Captn? What happened after that ...'
'The ambush! The battleships , the cannons , the crew ... the crew ... is gone?'
'No I must be dreaming. This is a dream!'
As soon as he said that, he was interrupted by the door suddenly bursting open revealing a woman around her forties.
" Ah you are awake bearded stranger. Welcome to Roland's Basin."
What is your character's main goal? (Motivation): To fight and meet expert warriors all over the world. Also, to become rich in any way he can get
Will your character likely join an existing faction? If so, which? If not, why not?: No. I more of the sea-raide, looter, knightly kind and none of the factions seems to have any of those ideas yet
Does your character have any connections to currently-existing characters or characters yet to be accepted? If so, which? (See "Character Linking Aid". Please post a link to the topic.): None
In-Character-Responses (ICRs. For each scenario, write at least a paragraph describing entirely in-character how your character would respond to the situation.)
Walking down the streets of the Undercity, you encounter a pair of heavily armed and armoured men harassing a young girl.
Vargus would go in without hesitation and attempt to stop this men.
The conversation and actions:
Vargus: " Stop right there scum. "
*Man stops harassing for a moment and looks at Vargus with cold eyes
Man: " Scum you called me bearded kid, how would you like to taste steel?"
*Man draws a sinister looking dagger from his scabbard
*Vargus looks calm and stares straight back at the Man
Vargus: " If you aren't a piece of scum fight me like a man! Hand to hand! "
'Combat begins'
You've been lost in the tunnels for nearly a week without food, and come across a small independent settlement.
Vargus would head to the nearest building he could find and attempt to ask and beg for some food. If the settlement decides not to provide him any, Vargus would regretfully use extortion in an attempt to get some food . A possible conversation:
*Vargus limps hurridly towards the nearest building he could find and slams his fists against the door
*A woman answers and looks very annoyed
Woman: "What is the meaning of this noise?"
Vargus: "Sorry for the interruption but, spare me some food please. I haven't eaten in a weeks."
Woman: "No you dirty begger. Go away or I'll call the guards!"
*Vargus shakes his head and shoves the woman into her own house
Vargus: "Sorry I have to do this but if you answered it would have been better for you."
*Vargus throws a knockout roundhouse punch onto the woman's head knocking her unconsious. After that, he helps himself to the food
You pass an old man lying on the side of the street, begging for food.
Vargus would attempt to ignore the man but if the begger persists, Vargus would give the man a little bit of gold.
In a tavern, a slightly inebriated fellow insults your mother.
Vargus would get easily annoyed with this fellow and would first go up to him and try to intimidate him. After that, he would challenge him to a brawl.
Intimidation process:
*Vargus turns around and looks at the Drunk with eyes of cold fury. He slams the table in front of the Drunk and talk in a very low voice.
Vargus: "Now what would you have said?"
*Drunk attempts to answer but Vargus interrupts him
Vargus: "If you can be so sharp with your tongue, how sharp are you with your fists?!"
*Vargus drags the Drunk out into his chair and goes into a stance for a fist-fight.
You take a liking to a beautiful necklace a passing woman wears.
Vargus would ignore it as he did not want to get tempted into forcefully taking it from an unarmed passer-by. He usually gives his enemies a chance to try and take arms against him. He only ignores his chivalery whenever he has to be unobstructive.
Do you have any questions about the server or our lore?

Have you read all of the rules, agree to abide by them, and by the decisions of our staff?:
I do so agree to abide by these rules and the decisions of the staff.
What is the definition of "Powergaming"?: Acting/Dictating occurences in such a manner as would be out of the control of your character.
What is the definition of "Metagaming"?: Acting as if your character possesses knowledge that he/she should not have (due to its accumulation out of game).
What is the definition of "Roleplay"?: Roleplaying is assuming the mantle of a character or aspects that are otherwise different from oneself, and engaging in scenarios based upon that change of behavior and its interaction with the world around said character/aspect.
Who can use flymod, X-ray and other such clientsided mods?: Presumably only the admins, although I can't find this in the text.
When are you allowed to cause the death of another character?: Only if their player assents, and such occurs due to RP reasons.
When are you allowed to speak out of character?: Using OOC channel, or with parenthesis in others.
Have you read the primary server lore of our server and agree to roleplay in accordance with it?: Yes.
Who is allowed to use magic?: The Undergods/Sages.
How did the Humans come to be in the Caves?: By being forced to flee from their homes as the result of an Apocalypse that is consuming/has consumed the world, after having fled to Roland's Basin as refugees from war.
What are the Shrines?: Areas filled with resources belonging to the Undergods, which can be controlled by factions.
What previous roleplay experience have you had, if any?: Several years of tabletop gaming experience, as well as several chat/play by post roleplays. I'm afraid that my Minecraft RPing doesn't amount to much though.
If you have played on other RP servers, please say which and why you left: I have been on a few servers, but I would prefer not to list them for the same reason I left them: The RP component seemed rather insignificant.
Character Information
Name: Malvin Greenthumb
Age: 22
Race: Human
Class: Herbalist
Physical description: Somewhat small and weedy, but every inch of him his well worked and strong from a lifetime of farm work. He prefers clothing with a slight edge of color to them, but nothing particularly garish or extravagant. Finally, his face is lined with a somewhat bushy beard, which is unkempt and wild-grown due to a lack of opinion on his part for caring for it.
Biography: Malvin was born in the Province of Javil, an only son of a particularly prominent noble family of the region. Well, FORMERLY noble is the operative word here, seeing as the annexation of the land occurred several decades ago, and Malvin's grandparents were one of the noble families to be disenfranchised by the Republic of Horium. Which was fine by the rest of the realm, seeing as the nobility was partially seen as being responsible for failing to keep the country strong enough to refrain from asking for Horium aid.
So the boy grew up, as the son of disenfranchised nobles: living a poor life in a rather small townhouse that his father tried to dress up in order to maintain some illusion of high status. Malvin himself, not knowing what he lost, was a rather accepting and outgoing young lad - always taking up his responsibilities without complaint, and easily making friends with the various youths of the lower class district (only to be berated for his choice of friends by his parents). In fact, after a certain point in his life, the young man was the primary breadwinner: willing to get down and in the mud in order to grow a garden that formed the majority of the family funds during his later adolescent years. Unfortunately this is about the point where the army of Dravion swept into town...
The Grand Master Warlock did what he did in all other places, which is to say, torched the town down. Seperated from his parents during the chaos that ensued, Malvin found himself roaming the land looking for a new place to settle. He finds one now in Roland's Basin.
What is your character's main goal? (Motivation): Despite his somewhat joviality, a lifetime of enduring complaints has left Malvin wanting to make something for himself. He now hopes, through hard work and mercantile skill, to be able to gain control over the majority of the farms in the area and become a vital part of the town, influential on local politics, and reestablish his family's house (the name of which he hides until he feels such time is right).
Strengths (Both physical and personality): Friendly, Malvin is able to give you the best deal in town and ensure that you come out feeling like a champ while advancing his own agenda. He's also got a good deal of strength in him, for putting in a hard day's work.
Weaknesses (Both physical and personality): Somewhat of a softy in terms of personality above that core of iron, his attempts to be a hero can get him into a big mess. Also, he's only a farmer: his physical qualities aren't of much help to him in regards to the warrior arts.
Will your character likely join an existing faction? If so, which? If not, why not?: No, because he hopes to grow one from the ground up.
Does your character have any connections to currently-existing characters or characters yet to be accepted? If so, which? (See "Character Linking Aid". Please post a link to the topic.): No.
In-Character-Responses (ICRs. For each scenario, write at least a paragraph describing entirely in-character how your character would respond to the situation.)
Walking down the streets of the Undercity, you encounter a pair of heavily armed and armoured men harassing a young girl.
"Oh!"
A young girl cried out in pain as a number of brutes surrounded her, attempting to have their way. As Malvin saw the scene, he wondered if he could do anything about it. After a few seconds formulating a brief plan, he decided that he could. He approached the men and called out:
"Excuse me gentlemen, does something seem to be the matter?"
The two gentlemen diverted their attention from the girl for a moment to stare at this new interloper. One of them gave a short guffaw before the other said: "Yeah mate, you 'is ruining our fun. That's tha problem here!"
As the man began to heft his sword, Malvin began to feel himself sweating. Perhaps this wasn't the best idea after all... Nevertheless, he had to keep going, and tried to put up a brave external front.
"Oh, far be it from my intent gentlemen. I was just hoping that you knew exactly who you were dealing with here. You see, I know this fine lady here, and she happens to be the daughter of a prominent policeman. One who doesn't live in this part of town, but important enough that I thought you honorable fellows should know about it..."
With that, the two men looked at one another with doubting glares. The girl didn't seem all that special, but anyone could be a copper's daughter. And that might explain why she felt so comfortable walking around town without protection. Of course, this is all just what Malvin could surmise from the look on their faces, but he was hoping that it would be enough to get them to back off.
"Tell you what, I have an idea: the girl needs some escorts to get her home safely, and i'm sure her father would be appreciative of knowing that his daughter was well cared for, given the dangerous criminals that roam the streets. I'll accompany you to assure him that this was your intent, even if he knows of your reputation, and perhaps we can all come out of this better off, hmm?"
With that, Malvin slipped each of the thieves a coin, hoping that they would take the opportunity that lay before them instead of deciding to put him to the pavement instead...
You've been lost in the tunnels for nearly a week without food, and come across a small independent settlement.
Ache. All that Malvin could feel was an aching sensation in the pit of his stomach that urged him to drop down and die, even as he dragged himself forwards on the floor of the tunnels. But what was that? He thought he could see a familiar sensation, one that had been foreign to him for nearly a week. "Lighht...." A weak voice proclaimed, as the young man used the cave walls to bring himself up to his feet. Light meant life, particularly with the chance of a hot meal and a bed that Malvin could bargain for. None of which came into the farmer's head as coherent thoughts, as he stumbled forwards towards the town.
You pass an old man lying on the side of the street, begging for food.
"A morsel of food, a scrap of bread... Anything, please! I was once a warrior strong, defender of the Undercity, but now all I am is skin and bones. Won't someone help a poor old man, a veteran of conflicts past?"
This and other remarks came from an old man lying outside of The Banded Knee, a tavern in a small town in the caves. As Malvin passed by the man, he could not help but be overwhelmed with compassion, even if the elder probably didn't perform half of the things he claimed to have done for the Undercity in his youth. So inclined, he pulled out a coin and handed it to the old man, who immediately snatched the thing from his hands, before staring at it wide-eyed.
"Bless ye sir, may the Undergods reward ye for your kindness."
With a faint smile, Malvin cryptically responded: "A good deed itself has large weight, and can thus be its own reward." before heading into the tavern.
In a tavern, a slightly inebriated fellow insults your mother.
"*hic* Your moms'h a hore..."
Oh great, something else to be dealt with...
Malvin knew that he would never be able to stand up to the drunk in a fair fight, but he couldn't let the insult go unpunished. Then again, he did have the large advantage of not being ****-drunk...
"You lishtening, mate? I said yer mom'sh a..."
Interrupting his opponent's "scathing and well calculated" insult, Malvin calmly responded:
"And yours was as drunk on the day she birthed you, as you are now."
Waiting for the punch that was to be thrown as a response, Malvin was instead surprised to find himself facing a much different part of the drunkard, who had turned around and proceeded to fart in the farmer's face...
*Ugh* Malvin thought as he gagged on the terrible stench, *Guess I can't win em all...*
You take a liking to a beautiful necklace a passing woman wears.
The lady wore a turquoise necklace of surpassing beauty, and high price... which she probably hadn't acquired herself. Therefore, she probably would underestimate its true value and Malvin would be able to get it at a steal of a price, or so the farmer hoped.
"I say miss, what a lovely necklace you have there... May I ask where you acquired it?"
The woman, who seemed used to such compliments, calmly responded: "Oh, this thing? My husband bought it for me while he was in Horium, on a diplomatic mission of some sort..."
Well, that certainly confirmed things. Now for the important question.
"I can see that he had good taste then, fitting for a woman such as yourself. Nevertheless, I must have it! Would you be willing to part with the necklace, for a suitable fee?"
The woman then looked deep in thought, as though she was mulling over the proposal. Malvin knew from his mother that that was usually a sign that the woman didn't particularly care much for a piece of jewlery and was just trying to see how much she could get a merchant to part with it. All in all, a good start to this transaction...
Do you have any questions about the server or our lore? Not particularly at the moment.

A testimonial from one of our players:
TL;DR Story (Brief summary. If you wish to join, you REALLY need to read the rest):
Lore Tidbits:
Human Lore:

All very good points. I'm requesting even Whitelisters make apps anyways. As you say, it's important to get a feel for your character. I'd also venture to say a Whitelister ought to know what it's like to fill out the apps they're reviewing.
That would be absolutely spectacular. One that could be used as the banner for our site as well would be awesome.
I have confidence in our server and our team. I don't foresee us going away anytime soon.
I could show you some choice spots for screenshots, but to my knowledge none of the Undergods have really selected skins yet, and only two of the five shrines are completed.
If you dislike it, I can remove him. I just it'd be a nice addition to the lore

Name: Vargus Thorlan
Age: 26
Race: Human,Ragnau
Class: Juggernaut
Physical description: Wears leather armor and has a long brown red beard.
Screen capture of your skin: http://www.minecraftskins.com/skin/41593/gimli/
Also, to become rich in any way he can get
Strengths (Both physical and personality): Strong , honorable , truthful , trustworthy
Weaknesses (Both physical and personality): Slow , arrogant , reckless , easily provoked

Screen capture of your skin: http://www.minecraft...55108/villager/
