Frustratingly delicious? I'm definitely glad that Mojang is taking their time and making the release "right", but I'm also so ready for the 1.8 release.

Ahoy, Oh Great and Mighty Flying Spaghetti Monster! Touch us with Thine Noodly Appendages! Let us glory in your great and wondrous meaty balls! May your holy beer volcano be everlasting and your stripper factory be without end. RAmen!!
Seeing as I couldn't care less about endermites, slime blocks, and andesite, I'm glad that they're slowing release. What I do care about is bug fixing and performance upgrades. That's definitely needed, so I'm glad Mojang is doing this.
but the fact is, all they are doing every week is making very minor changes
Do you have proof to back up this claim? What is your definition of "minor changes"? Judging by the developers the changes they are making are anything but minor, rewriting large chunks of the game code practically from scratch.
Also if you are so eager to get the new 1.8 features why not just use the snapshots? They are more than stable enough in my experience, just don't forget to back up your world regularly (which you should be doing regardless any ways).
I think they're talking about the issue with custom launchers taking your user tokens and storing them somewhere else for use. The problem with this is that there is no way, aside from compiling from source yourself, to know that the launcher you are using is safe. Therefore Mojang gave the warning that custom launchers can and sometimes do put your user tokens at risk.
Basically, people are mad because Mojang doesn't like people writing custom launchers which take your data. Whether or not this is necessary is besides the point.
Would you give a custom Steam launcher access to your Steam information, to possibly use whenever the developer likes?
There's still some features they can/should add; for example, look at the custom world option for structures (still the same in 14w20b, I just reused an old screenshot):
All of those need to have sliders, not just yes/no settings; why are dungeons and lakes so important?
However, it wouldn't take long at all to add sliders for everything else, as most of them already have the hooks to change their settings (as in Superflat), and the rest are easy to modify (caves, ravines, temples) to allow changing them.
Are you kidding me? I thought 1.8 would be released any time now! Well hopefully this will give Mojang more time to work out bugs, since every time there is an update there seems to be a lot of bugs that need to be fixed with further updates. If taking longer avoids the annoying bugs and glitches, then I totally don't mind waiting.
I remember when 1.6 first came out I was really angry because I would begin to glitch out and break or place random blocks every 5 seconds or so, hopefully this can be avoided if they take their time on the updates.
Oh come on people, they're not rushing an update for once. Be happy the final release will have more content and maybe less bugs than a typical rushed update.
Why isn't 1.8 being pushed out? Probably because many mods haven't even caught up to 1.7.2 yet. The few big mods that are 1.7.2 ready are all in experimental versions.

Why would Mojang care about that? They have never made even so much as a hint that their release schedules are affected by 3rd party code tinkering, nor would it make any sense.
I'm concerned to see Grum say he wants to refactor the code to untangle it before writing an API - because writing APIs *is* the way to untangle code! To separate a chunk of code out, you need a set of interfaces for the rest of the code to use - and that's an API. Of course it will have to be revised in the course of recoding - that's programming for you - but if you don't have a clearly defined goal with this kind of project you're just spinning your wheels.

Geographicraft (formerly Climate Control) - Control climate, ocean, and land sizes; stop chunk walls; put modded biomes into Default worlds, and more!
RTG plus - All the beautiful terrain of RTG, plus varied and beautiful trees and forests.
I hate Grum's condescending attitude here. Totally unprofessional.... but he is right on almost everything. The modding community has written itself into a corner and is kicking its feet at Mojang to fix it for them.
I agree with Grum about the login issues. It's a huge security issue in a game where all you've really bought is a login. But he's very wrong about modder's complaints. Mojang has no need to *change* the obfuscation with each version; that creates an enormous additional burden on modders with that policy for no benefit.
I am glad they're working on improving the code and not just dumping out release after release, each requiring a complete rework of all my mods and modpacks. It would be nice to be off that treadmill but at least it's moving slower and that's a relief.

So, what do you all think of this? I for one am glad that they are taking their time for once.

This is way off topic.
Anyways, I'm glad they're taking their time with this one. There's a lot of internal changes this time around, and the less bugs, the better.
...but that's just like, my opinion, man.
Praise be to Spode.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

Totally agree.
