Hello Everyone, I have some Ideas for locked items such as doors, containers and switches.
Locked Doors
For multiplayer, when you don't want unwanted guests going inside your home or structures, I came up with the idea for locking the doors from certain players or all of them. Just an idea but I think this can be a useful option for multiplayer.
Locked Containers
These include chests or ender chests. These protect your items from being stolen from unwanted players.
Locked Switches/Buttons
If these items turn on unwanted effects, and you want no one else to use them, I thought of this idea since lots of players have a problem with this.
Thanks for reading my locked items suggestion, I hope they can be a reality!
I'm assuming this would be a host enabled feature, ie:
[ ] Players may set Item Locks
============================
What mechanism/user interface would the players use to access the item lock settings? which controller buttons to access this interface? etc.
For the actual user interface, are you thinking of settings, something along the lines of :
[ ] Allow Self Only
[ ] Allow White List Only
[ ] Allow Friends and White List (Except Black List)
[ ] Allow Anyone Except Black List
[ ] Turn Off Item Lock
Then have a White List of Trusted Players and a Black List of Non-Trusted/Blocked Players?
Hello Everyone, I have some Ideas for locked items such as doors, containers and switches. Why is "ideas" capitalized?
Locked Doors
For multiplayer, when you don't want unwanted guests going inside your home or structures, I came up with the idea for locking the doors from certain players or all of them. Just an idea but I think this can be a useful option for multiplayer. It'll take me only a few extra seconds to break through the wall and replace it. This could also be used to trap players inside a bunch of doors (assuming the doors cannot be broken. If they can, they're useless).
Locked Containers
These include chests or ender chests. These protect your items from being stolen from unwanted players. Unless they break/blow up the chest. Learning to hide your items solves this problem.
Locked Switches/Buttons
If these items turn on unwanted effects, and you want no one else to use them, I thought of this idea since lots of players have a problem with this. Making a lever isn't difficult, nor is breaking through the wall...again.
Thanks for reading my locked items suggestion, I hope they can be a reality!
Responses in bold.
None of these items would be useful in the servers of which you speak. These servers most-likely will have everything except maybe PvP enabled for each player, and as such anyone could easily break into the structure or chests, rendering the items useless.

I like the idea.. sort of.
If you're ever played Diablo 2 and 3, you'll notice there's things that are account bound.
Weapons, armour, charms, whatever.
Basically.. this would make it so.. if it was dropped on the ground (broken out of the chest of your house etc) and it falls on the ground, people can't even pick it up because it's not linked to their account.
So I like the idea.. it's just flawed and easily able to go around with.
Sorry if it's not the best idea and my grammar. >.< I sorta mean't like if you are playing on a RPG server where you want to store your items, people can protect their items and you don't have to physically put the items in the chest for them as host and or turn the privilege on or off several and protect private areas. I can say its like a whitelist mentioned by GregNelson. Sorry if I don't make a lot of sense

Looked to me like we all understood you fine so don't worry.
I gave my reasons why I liked it. It'd be relatively okay. Greg of course made the option more... "there", and manageable though.
Some way to manage it and have things be toggle-able would be best.
I really only see a purpose for "Locked Chests". Maybe it can be called a safe, where lets say I have a map in my safe, I can see it and take it, but if a person puts redstone in the safe, it's not visible to me, so therefore I cannot take there item, I can only take mine. Maybe something along those lines?
With TU14, Ender chests are already private. The inventory is associated with only the player that opens it. Therefore items you put in an Ender chest are there forever. Nobody can grief and take them from you. Even if the chest is destroyed the items will remain when you, or anybody really, creates another Ender chest. And I tested this in multiplayer. We each had our own separate inventories in the same Ender chest.

Really? Because somebody took things from my Ender Chest. I had to kill them to get it back.
I forgot about enderchests... since they're fairly hard to make... Lol
I agree. If you were on peaceful mode, you wouldn't be able to make a Ender Chest, since it requires a Eye of Ender; unless you got it from a villager trade.

You have just described the functionality of an Ender Chest...just without the quasi-dimensional aspect in that if I place an item in it at point A, I can pick that item up again at point B from any other Ender Chest.
What is outlined above is not only a safe spot for one specific individual at a time, but a shared space for a selective group of allowed individuals, but not others.

I could care less about private chests really.. there's tonnes of ways to make chests hidden and people would never know about it ever.
all I care about is when a creeper shows up at my door and blows up my chests aren't going to all be destroyed and need to be replaced and reorganized.

What you are talking about is a host only option, it doesn't allow other players to store and protect their own inventory IF this option were enabled.

And how are any of these even made?
Stay fluffy~

^^^^ Click it! You know you want to...
That's actually a pretty good idea.
Yeah I agree as well.

Thanks guys!

But... I'd rather enderchests just be blastproof and not private...

I agree on this as well. Fortunately, my Ender Chest doesn't seem to be private......

You should test this to make sure and then report it in the Bugs thread if this is actually happening and you can replicate it.
