As my title suggests.. I think stairs and slabs for every kind of block would be nice.
Maybe an example is trying to make legit dirt pathways that also go up hills with dirt stairs, you see them in real life mountains sometimes so it would make sense to me.
Only thing I would make an exception to what block of course are things like fences, glass panes etc.
I believe the PC version did once have grass or dirt stairs and then Mojang removed them. So, even though I'm not optimistic that this will ever be implemented, I do support the general idea of having more slab and stairs available to match with other building blocks already in the game.

was slabs I believe... don't know about the stairs, but that was an alpha test thingy I think...
As for the suggestion, I would have to say, not all blocks as that would be a bit much. Ore blocks just wouldn't be right or well in my opinion wouldn't look so well that way. Maybe the full blocks of ore, like the iron block and such, but not the raw ore. I am 50-50 on the idea for obvious reasons. Each to their own taste.
there are a few blocks I wouldn't mind seeing done that way. I would like a stair block to go with the stone slab and smooth stone though, as that is a bit frustrating. Wool would be nice to at least have slabs. Dirt stairs & slab would be ok, as I can do a lot with that, however I would like to see grass blocks done that way, at least stairs; not having upside down ones for them for obvious reasons, but hey if it happens it does. There are a few more I wouldn't mind seeing, but those I believe would be my personal interest in the subject.:D

You could be right that it was just slabs. I knew it was very early on in the development. Do you know why they eliminated them?

From my understanding it was just there for testing purposes, kinda like a few other things they added and deleted over the course of the development. So I guess in a way it was the first slab, but mind you that is just a guess, as I only know what I have read up on. I only started when roughly 1.8.2 or close to that was around. Or was it later... Don't remember. A lot of you tubers, older ones, have actually given quite a few bits here and there, as well on here in the forums. Although those posts are pretty old.
Maybe the wiki has something mentioned on it, although I doubt that much. hmm... Your guess is good as mine, as that which I do know was gathered from old episodes and here from old posts dating way back.

wow.
I've got to remove my notepad I wrote because, I had the same suggestion with sooooo much detail. Well, I had something around these lines.
I've always got ton of ideas but, I must restrain myself from spamming the suggestion section >:

Oh... that sucks. Sorry.
I just suggest whatever I think is suggest-able. If it gets closed (which has happened to me a lot for extremely stupid moderator rules in my opinion) then whatever on to the next suggestion.
Love the idea. Scrolling in the survival menu may be a problem however... Well im sire its workable i just cant think of a good way. Creative would be easy though.
Well rather than more half slabs and such, I'm more for better implications of said blocks. For example we should be able to vertically place half slabs and stairs, which would add better detail to the game, but of course each to their own opinions.

I've read just about everything on Minecraft Wiki, so yes there were dirt slabs that Notch used for testing .I believe it was during the stages of development of Minecraft 0.30.
EDIT: Yeah, I was right, here's the link to the page. You might need to scroll down to the bottom of the page until you see the "dirt slab" section: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Slabs#Dirt_slab

I dunno you could so something like.. when you're in the block menu you just press RT or LT to toggle like you can do when typing a message to toggle between symbols and letters, capital/non capital letters etc.
I wonder how sand stairs would work while placing them upside down....
It's doable...but with some complications...
"IF" sand and gravel slabs and stairs were used... and If placed upside down (or otherwise loose support from below), they would immediately fall as sand/gravel blocks would fall and land right-side up. 2 sand/gravel stairs on top of each other would reconstitute to a full block and a slab on top, sand stair or slab on the bottom (or somewhere in the middle) of a stack of sand blocks that fall simultaneously would cycle to the top of the stack, allowing the full blocks to fill below.
The only real snags are:
1. Where you have a mixed stack of sand and gravel, and how they would interact. Partial blocks can only fill the same space as other partial blocks of the same 'type'... so you can't mix a sand and gravel slab/stair without creating a whole new mixed/block type. So it might create some awkward looking instances with a few gaps for the empty spaces... but then that exists with some other things in minecraft now, so it isn't a really big deal, it would just look a little funny when it did occur. (i.e. observe how lava/water treat partial blocks they go over, or fences and gates inside lava/water flows, or the effects of signs and doors on lava/water flow).
2. (Sand/Gravel) slab (1/2 block) and stair (3/4 block) stacked on top of each other, according to the logic above, they would combine and fill to form a full block and an umph (1 + 1/4 block): there would only be enough material for a quarter block (half of a slab) left over... not sure how to handle that, could just make it a slab or just get rid of (eliminate) the difference arbitrarily. It would be easier that having to deal with a whole new partial (quarter) block that would serve little additional value/purpose to the game. Alternatively, the game could toggle a bit flag to alternately give you a slab one time and nothing the next time, that way there is (on average) minimal net loss/gain of materials under this logic.
Pro: Can help to fill out the roundness of trees (if naturally spawning), and help with your topiary skills in shaping your hedges (if craft-able from leaf blocks)... I suppose
Con: It is yet another 2 block types to deal with.

Or Wool stairs, slabs, etc.
Thoughts?
obviously except for some. sand and gravel being a no brainer...

Why not both I say.
