Maybe allow shears to collect feathers from a chicken (periodically), or you can alternatively hit the chicken and have a 'chance' that it might drop a feather (assuming it survives), and you can use seed to heal them... That way, if you are poultry vindictive... you can just beat the chickes, but if you prefer the responsible farmer type, you can go and harmlessly shear the chickens.
'Sheared' chickens should jump normally and loose the ability to 'float down' (ie. will take fall damage while wings are clipped).

Yeah agreed.
I'm trying to picture a naked chicken, and i'm laughing my **** of about it. Lol
We need to be able to get feathers easier I think, since zombies don't drop them anymore, only way to get them is from chickens, and even then they can only give you one feather. And that's of course if they give any at all when you do kill them.
So, why not be able to sheer them. Then you could make certain items such as arrows easier.
I like the idea, but I just wanted to say that chickens don't always drop one feather. One time I got two feathers from one chicken.

Interesting. If it wasn't a sheer idea.. Something else I thought of is.. they could just drop feathers on their own.
Cause chickens in real life drop feathers all the time (Not that I'm nitpicking about the need for 'realism' in this game) I'm just throwing it out there.
Say, almost like how they lay an egg every 5 minutes or so. They could drop a feather every 5-10 as well.
yeah i've thought this should be implemented since i started playing 360 MC, OFC feathers are easy to get after you have a good skeleton spawner made but that can take some time and we all know how useful arrows are when starting survival hard.

hmm?
From a game stand point, my preference would be to sheer the chickens for the feathers when I wanted them, rather than have chicken feathers drop all the time.
From a realistic standpoint crafting wise, feathers are only used in arrow recipes (that I know of) and to fletch arrows, you very specifically need (3) feather(s) plucked from the same wing of the bird you collected it from, it has to specifically be wing feathers, and technically, you need three from the same wing or your arrow will not spin in flight (it would wobble and fly wild).
Obviously, it is a game and we don't have to delve too far into realism, but it is something to consider. But, I 'prefer' the feeling that I am hand-selecting the best feathers to make arrows, rather than the feeling of picking the old crappy shedded feathers out of the chicken poo.

Fair enough. I just decided to throw out an alternative.
Because, I thought that the feather dropping could be a drop of realism (Pun). Because chickens do drop feathers and pull them out etc.
