I think we were a bit rash with our test. I noticed when I had some friends on my map that the houses outside of my DNS chunk were lighting correctly. I have no idea why. I will be gettin a stop watch and timing things.

Yeah makes sense because your friends are keeping these chunks loaded.. when we went away I think it was unloading them... more tests and report back! lol Thx for the update!

No as in I went into the map by myself and took a real roundabout way to the buildings that are powered by the sensor. They were all lit with no piston or block glitches. I purposely saved the game so when I came into view of the buildings my path would be well away from the sensor. Also, do you have all your vids cataloged somewhere? I've been sending kids/noobs from XBOX forums to look at specific vids.
Actually? Yes! It really does seem to be. I have got rid of a lot of fire. But yes it seems a lot of the problem was myself. Too impatient. But I'm not one hundred percent yet, ill repost after taking notes and timing.

Awesome! yeah it would be good to know that we don't need several of these around the world..

It's a BuD swtich sir. (block update detector) They can tell when a change in a block happens or in the block space... so grass turns to dirt when under water.. with NO sunlight that's a block change.. it then activates it.. when it turns to day.. it turns back to grass because there are grass blocks next to it so it spreads and so on.

maybe I phrased this incorrectly, what I am asking is how does the changing of the block trigger the powering of the torch?
It triggers the bud switch itself.. A BUD switch is a glitch/feature that a piston that is powered diagonally will react to a block being updated (i.e placed, removed, redstone dust, grass, tilling) by retracting or extending the piston.. the sticky piston pushing a block above a powered torch allows the power to conduct to redstone line... hope that answers it.. sorry if it's confusing!

Here's a question..... How, exactly, does this function?
It's my understanding, and I'm not the brightest color. But basically a grass block will remain a grass block under one block of water as long as there is sufficient light. If the light level drops below a certain level, say night with no light sources except the moon, the grass block will turn/switch to a dirt block(the grass has died). When this happens the formerly grass block needs to be updated by the game. Also the signal output of the block has changed. This can be exploited by a B.U.D.(block update detector)switch. The block updates the B.U.D. Switch senses this and will react by firing off a piston. When that piston moves, it allows redstone current to flow through the line/circuit. Said current can be used for any number or redstone related uses. My fave being lights that turn on at night. And turn off in the morning. All full auto.
So Mr. Ent. I was putting upside down stairs on the roofs of those buildings when lo and behold, kerchunk, on come the lights. Now I really could have already loaded those chunks, it was 0430, so I don't really remember. But as soon as the kids are down ill get the stop watch out and confirm.
Yeah YouTube Playlist.
