I posted the pic because i thought your 'sails' needed work, i could have posted a crapload more but specifically chose a shot that was further away to show the level of details in the sails. I studied your ship in detail before i posted the pic. While I personally don't care for the webs as ropes, that in turn is left to the creators vision.
My only gripe was that the level of detail in the sails wasn't up to the rest of the ship, hence my post. Sails back then were not just based of the mast and moorings think i spelled that right, but also consisted of lots of 'para-sails' to catch the wind to help both in speed as well as in maneuvering. I may not have the correct 'jarven', but i think you catch my drift.
I'm interested in what the bigger ship will turn out, however i ask that you don't 'belittle' me as you just did, I'm only trying to offer some help. I figured that you could have read between the lines and picked up some ideas from my pic but i guess it was too open to interpretation. I will try to be more clear next time.

There are only so many ideas to gain from faraway shots of ships that show nothing but the exterior design and sails etc. Had you contributed that level of feedback in your first post instead of simply leaving a picture, I doubt he would have singled you out.
I researched the anatomy of these kinds of ships a bit as I worked on my first one, though I didn't learn much about the sails, so I don't exactly follow what you're saying. But since the current ship I'm working on is much larger it will allow for more detail on the sails, which I plan to take advantage of.
Well think of it kinda like this, most ships use the 'viking' style of sails, where its one large sail that runs off the main mast(s), usually between two cross beams running parallel to the mast. These type of sails are more 'rectangle' in shape. Now I'm not entirely sure what the name of the sails are, I just call them para-sails, think of these more like sailboats, These type of sails are more 'triangle' in shape, and from what i read when researching them allowed ships to catch more wind to improve their speed, and also allowed them to turn at a much greater angle then without. These were heavily used in frigates and better sized ships, and often between masts, as most ships of those classes had multiple masts. Many of them also had sails at the front of the ship, almost hanging off the front of the ship, though I'm not entirely sure what they were used for.
I also never realized how often ships actually 'rammed' each other back then, and thus the front of the boat often required a lot of extra reinforcement. If needed I can try and get some 'closer' shots of sail system. I can also try to post the pics i used as reference when constructing mine. Believe they were something like 1880's or somewhere around there frigates and galleys.

Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Victory one of the few still in commission today. I'll try to scan and upload some images later today/tomorrow, so busy playing a few new games and with work that not much time lately.

I've been using some of the pics from this page as a bit of a guide.
I'm working on the sails right now, and could use some help if there's anyone who thinks they'd be any good at that. Also I need ideas for how to fill out the interior of the lowest couple levels of the ship.
If anyone would like to join me in the next few hours tonight, reply here or send me a message on xbox. My gamertag is the same as my profile here.
