I have a disc version of Minecraft Xbox 360 edition, but unfortunately the disc got a large circular scratch which I think is known as the "Ring of Death" (correct me if I'm wrong), and the game will not play. I want to know if I can somehow play the game without inserting the disc or downloading the game. PLEASE HELP!
Are saved games from the disc version compatible with the same game that is downloaded from Live? Looking to play Minecraft in quiet mode without loud disc spin.
Personally I would save your world to a flash drive before making the switch, just in case. The downloaded version is the same as the disk version, and the save games should be compatible, no problem. What I don't know is if you download MC, if your saved games will still be there... so just in case....
I think the full name of the "Ring of Death" that you are referring to is the "Red Ring of Death". If that is what you are referring to, then no, that is not what you would call a scatch on a disk. The Red Ring of Death was a problem that happened to many of the early XBox 360s that were released.
Thanks for replying... I saved my worlds onto the flash drive, but is there someway I can backup the whole game onto my Xbox, allowing me to play the game at any time without the disc?

Yes, I know exactly what the red ring of death is, for its happened to me once before, but I referring to a perfect circular scratch along the backside of the disc.
Sorry again, but the disk version is coded so it has to run off the disk, and only off the disk. Once the disk is ruined (pardon the pun) but "game over". I know you want to save the whole game somehow, some way, so you don't have to download (and therefore pay for it again), but no such luck.
As Geneo has indicated, the disc version will not download from the disc onto the console, so once the disc is damaged, it won't run. You can perhaps try contacting the manufacturer to see if they'll provide a replacement disc in the event the disc becomes damaged, but this is a long shot particularly on an inexpensive game such as this one.
Unless you have a real compelling reason to work from a disc, I would follow Geneo's advice and just backup your file saves to a USB and then purchase the online version.

the people at GameStop called them "halo rings" and said they are hard to repair. How deep are the rings?
You have to have the disk in the drive to play the game. You've got a nice coaster though.
(Download it. You don't have to worry about any disk being scratched, and you can redownload for free if needed.)
