I was wondering, as I have been working to make ever further-shooting cannons and the limit of 20 lit tnt makes firing the 1 (or more) shot blocks with the 19 (or less) charge shots a lot more limited than what one could build on the PC.
Edit: I can get a block over 300 meters thusfar, but not over 400. I think 400 is about half a map.
a 20 block cannon (if properly made) will throw the shot charge out of view distance before the shot can explode. Furthermore, most of the time the shot explodes in the air so you can't even tell where it went. I was regularly getting 70 block shots with just 8 tnt blocks as primer.
With a 14 TNT primer, I can normally get upwards of 100 blocks (give or take, it's hard to tell 100%). But it can't hit the ground at that distance, so it's only useful for hitting things above it. My average with an 8 block primer is about 50 blocks, and even then it doesn't hit the ground sometimes.

Shot charge leaving view distance doesnt matter. Just fly out and find the hole it makes.
The airburst is a more serious problem, but you can still get 300 block distances (at least) if you can correct for that.
i did some little resarching and it seems st0ned has the furthest one so far

, Had a friend make it. Uses the TNT limit(did not count) And it does hit the ground before blowing up. It did not go very high ether, Just very far very fast, lol O, and i am glad we have a map to count for us(in a way)Had to do a lot of counting for different shots.

Not sure, but ive made them before to go out of render distance.
Stoned said it went 260 right? If that was the current record then my most recent design beat it.
Ok...I admit...I dont know exactly what your refering to. The draw distance seems to be about 200 meters, but cannons can shoot further than that.
how far did your most recent design shoot

In the 320 to 340 meter range. I posted a topic in the 360 showoff thread about it because it was also an aesthetic build and an expirement with the very finicky coilgun style TNT boosters. "Bringing the Big Guns" was the thread name. It has pictures and im working on getting some video.
