Ok, so, I am pretty darn upset about the whole "Void fog" ruining my underground city and any hope for my future underground cities or farms/slime farms. So, I have decided to quit playing minecraft (I mean, seriously, I worked on my world since may when MCXBL came out...so yeah, long long hours of work).
Today, when I went to my buddy's house, he was playing some creative mode on his xbox. I told him about the whole void fog ordeal that messed up our main world and he was livid as well. I told him to dig down to bedrock and to make a 15 by 15 room and I will show him. Well, when he placed lava as a source of light...IT WAS PERFECTLY VISIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was even more baffled because my underground ares were FILLED with glowstone and torches...yet I can't see more than 3 blocks away in every distance until there is a pitch black wall in my face.
Did I miss something, here? Was there a hotfix or update that came out? Cause I haven't been on since the update.
I started a mine last night at bedrock and I was getting void fog.
Not sure if lava makes any difference as a light source as its a particle effect.
I currently do not have my Xbox (I sold it to Gamestop to knock the price of the upcoming Halo 4 console down a little bit), so, if you could do some reconnaissance and report back here, that would be pretty neat of you :}
Lol, but if anyone has any insight on this, it would greatly be appreciated.
deal with it! notch added that feature and 4j just porting it.
I'm sorry, but did I ask for your opinion on the matter or whether or not it was ported or a glitch or whatnot? No. I am talking about the discontinuity between the things I have witnessed regarding this effect.
void fog is the same in any map be it pre 1.8.2 or not, my pre has a big open area at bedrock and i cant see more than a few blocks, ive just dug a mine shaft down to bedrock and on a new map and its the same,
and just cause its on the pc doesnt mean we have to have it !!
who in there right mind would want void fog, you cant even see creepers till its to later !!
I would. I love the void fog, it makes being underground 1000x better! You never know whats gonna get you and when you do it's too late. I love that!

Aside from ruining peoples bedrock builds, it makes the game harder so people don't like it.
I'm with you on this one lol I love void fog. I was exploring caves the other day and had to really concentrate to survive. Had to check every corner and always watch my back. The slime problem people complain about will be solved in the future when the slimes spawning limit is raised from layer 16 and below to layer 40 and below.

Not only does it add a more scary atmosphere, but the aesthetic look itself makes going underground really, really cool!

wait...so are you saying that I have to move my 100x100 slime farm UPWARDS...?
...no me gusta...
And, as I have said, since there are people out there who DO like void fog, and there are people out there who DESPISE it, it should be toggle-able.

No, you won't.
In the next update, slimes will go from spawning at layer 16 and below, to spawning at layer 40 and below. That means they still spawn at 16 and below, but for those making new farms, they will only have to go to layer 40.
I like it at times. I don't ever go on my pre 1.8.2 worlds unless in creative mode. But I only have 1 bedrock area, and it was just to test out some things with growing wheat and cactus.
But it's like a pearlescent like feel. Almost like looking at a car with a pearlescent look, where one way it looks white, and another way it looks black.
Given the difference of opinion on the bedrock fog (void fog), I'm going to make it a toggle in the graphics options, with it defaulting to off. This will be added to the 1.8.2 Bug Fix Update we're currently working on.

Toggle option for Void Fog?
Well, at least now players will have a choice whether or not to have it within their world. I personally like it myself, but having builds deep underground near bedrock, I can understand the frustration.

See yourself out, please.

Well...dangit...I hope they consider adding a toggle option, eventually :/
Yeah, I don't want to play survival with slimes jumping me from the fog.

This. Void fog is gravy.
