Other issues include caving, the world mostly being water, if you dont get a good map there are some biome exclusive blocks that you can't get. For example, my world generated about 75% water and only forest. I can't get dark wood or pinewood or cacti.
That's what I was saying. You need to just generate a new world in that case. Caving isn't an issue either, considering the world is 1024x1024x60 at the average level, that's a lot of space for caves to form.
Sorry this isn't quite true, I dig looooong underground mines and I mean LONG ones, currently in my pc game it takes me 21 min 32 secs to travel by rail from my castle to my minehead. (yes, I timed it) I enjoy building long underground railway networks and although I do like the xbox version I'd use all its space up VERY fast indeed if I made my usual mine/railway system.
You can still do that, it would just be a little more complicated. If I were to build a very large mine, I would just start at the bottom of bedrock, build from one end of the map to the either, then move up 2-3 blocks, and move back across. You could make a HUGE honeycomb mine.

But how do you know what the world is like before you explore it?

and if you think that you can make a 20min minecart track in only 1024x1024, you're deluded.
I don't have a x box but i fully agree with the map size being way too small. A world the size of a map is nearly 1k x 1k blocks. To fully see what that's like i took MC beta 1.7.3 and created a map with a glass border. Amazingly using the seed xbox i spawned at X:0 / Z:0.
After roaming around world to cover 1 map I can say that the map this size is too small. Your supposed to be able to play with up to 8 players. Watch the Mindcrack UHC with 12 players. a 2k x 2k map was too small. They could see each other at the start. Half the size the map and take out 4 players you get xbox. If your doing a pvp kind thing like UHC you would first have to run off to get away from each other but would almost immediately find each other while mining for goodies.
Take the price 20$ with these limits. NOT WORTH IT. Maybe if and when they make the worlds larger. Then it will be worth it.
I have a single core pc that has less power than the xbox and it plays MC just fine with the exception of the snapshots. So I think the xbox would be good with far larger worlds.
This could also be the same as minecraft was in indev. The worlds limits could go completely away and catch up to the PC version and you will have no borders.
Thats the problem exactly! Thanks for the feedback.
I'm sure they'll increase the world size. Hopefully to an infinite size. I mean, Castle Miner Z can do it so why wouldn't MC be able to do it on XBL? I would LOVE to be able to move from places I've spawned, especially if I got one I dont really like and end up creating 10 worlds before I get one I like and can do something with. Just saying, it would be GREAT to have an infinite world.
Here is an idea I posted on Reddit, but it got buried, I hope it doesn't here. I don't feel like typing it out again so I'm just gonna copy/paste
Please keep in mind that I do not completely understand how it works, and I made this so other can chime in to see if it's a good idea, if so, pass it on to 4J: While mining for diamonds and nearing the end of the world(It's a large mine...) I was think to myself if 4J could ever expand the world in some way, and then I thought "What if when you reach the invisible wall, a prompt comes up asking you if you would like to leave this current portion of the world and load a new portion". I know that Minecraft on XBLA has a limited world size due to memory(or at least I think so), so when it loads the new world, could it essentially dump the old portion out of memory? TL;DR: Prompt asking to load a new portion of the current world, and dump the current portion Again, I have no idea what I'm talking about, feel free to branch off of this

I like the smaller maps for THIS version. I have cerated 3 different worlds and mapped them all out. I have an island world, an amazin ALL snow/huge continent world, and an equally amazing ALL forest/huge landmass world so far. Going to try and get a massive all desert world as well/ Then, I will theme them for different settings and block types. I'm lovin' it.
Notch have enough money now, he doesnt care about his fans or about Minecraft anymore......
It's been 3 days...not only does Notch not work on Minecraft anymore, 4J Studios is responsible for updates to the xbox 360 version, and Jeb and a couple others(I forget their names right now) work on minecraft on PC. So shut up with the "He's rich and doesn't give a ****". Have some patience...

Yes, actually that is one of the ideas proposed. Having different world sizes would help because some people like smaller worlds whereas others want ∞ worlds.

I'm certainly not against the OPTION of larger world sizes. I just personally find it a blast to create new seeds and map them out. Then decide if I like it or not before I concentrate on what I will build there. More choices are always better.
Well file size limits is a pretty big thing for an XBLA title...but it was released seven days ago. Likely tell, an increase to map sizes will be included in future patches and/or free DLC, the initial game world is tiny, yes, but hopefully patches and/or DLC will bring it up to PC standard.
Because, honestly, I play Minecraft to explore more than to build. And if I can't get those massive cave systems and unique landscapes, I'm just gonna go back to my old laptop and it's stuttering but still playable Minecraft.

This is a good idea, I mean, sure, you'd have to spend a few minutes waiting for that world to generate, but then it's just a quick transition to a new one after that.

Well...yes and no.
It would solve the memory/RAM problem...then again, there is not memory/RAM problem. Minecraft can easily run at 256mb of ram, and the XBox has somewhere around 540mb I believe. The main issue is hardrive space of the world.

Minecraft levels dont exactly take up very much space

I'm pretty sure.
the game is a couple hundred mb and the world is 1k x 1k. why not make it a gig? that would something like quadruple the world size.

Well, my Minecraft maps on PC run around an average of ~50 MB per world, and the default memory of an Arcade Xbox is 156 MB, I believe.
But flash drives are cheap and plentiful (Especially in 2-4 gig) and since the Xbox added flash drive support for additional storage, memory isn't an issue.
I suspect they ran into the same issue that the XBLIG vox games faced: the hard drive access for the Xbox is incredibly slow and it is easily bogged down by large save files so they limited the map size for performance. I wouldn't bet on map size changes unless Microsoft want to get involved with a console update to solve the issue.

I'm just going to stop before this becomes a full on flame war.. Have fun with your panties in a twist.

This idea?
Edit: I know for a fact that the memory amount is fine. You can EASILY play minecraft with 250mb of ram.
