I've played the PC version for a week or two and to get food I built an animal farm, bred them, chopped them up. In this version, which is apparently 1.6, cows don't drop food and nothing responds to wheat (as far as I can tell).
So what did you use to do for food?
Is it mostly just wheat to bread? I started a wheat farm but I can't find bonemeal in the crafting menu so it's slow waiting.
And a little off topic, but why would the minecraft peeps release a beta version to xbox when there's a much better PC version they could have used instead?
The PC version is coded in Java. Java does not run on the 360, so it had to be completely rebuilt from the ground up. They (4J Studios) started working on it when 1.6.6 was the last stable release, so that is what version it is.
For food, I suggest just building a big wheat farm. You can also kill pigs for meat, or make mushroom soup by farming mushrooms. The pig meat can be cooked to heal more.
The game will update directly to 1.2, so I would be preparing structures for that update, such as up to date mob grinders with placeholders for pistons, making pens for animals once they become permanent, etc.
Bonemeal is found under the "Dye" section for some reason. (decorations->2nd item)
Pigs drop yummy pork.
Mushroom farms (just completed one) to make mushroom stew.
Wheat farm for bread.
These are basically the easiest ways to make it through the game in 1.6
The reason the "beta" version is for xbox is because the xbox is somewhat "limited" while the PC is "unlimited" on specs and crap. There will more then likely be updates in the future getting the xbox version closer to V2.0, i dont expect it to ever reach PC version.....but just be happy you can play it on consoles

That is not the reason. If you don't know what you are talking about, it's best to just not say anything, because you run the risk of spreading mis-information.
I used to go to the nether and collect mushrooms. Or make a wheat farm. Failing those two options I just ran (well walked but you get the picture) around and hunted pigs, it's the old passive mobs spawning... Passive mobs .eg. cows, sheep, pigs and chickens spawn on grass when there is a lightlevel of... I can't remember what the level is or higher. So it's pretty easy to get food.
I believe it's light level of 9 and up. Not 100% sure though.
Find pigs, make a wheat farm, or collect a few of both kinds of mushrooms and make a mushroom farm for mushroom stew.
I've found tons of pigs in my world, pretty much any time I go outside my house I find at least one. I have almost a full chest of pork. I also have a decent sized indoor wheat farm on the back of my house. I've gotten about 2 stacks of wheat so far from it, enough for a good bit of bread. I haven't made a mushroom farm, but I've never made one, so I'd have to look up how to go about doing that. (I started in 1.8, but played 1.6 quite a bit right before the 360 version came out so I'd get used to it. lol)
Also remember, since there's no hunger bar, you don't really need as much food as you do in the newer versions, unless you get hurt a lot. In my case, I tend to sleep through the nights, or stay down in my mine all night. (I've found 5 diamonds, and like 4 stacks of redstone so far.)
That is not the reason. If you don't know what you are talking about, it's best to just not say anything, because you run the risk of spreading mis-information.
Excuse me? Relative to the current technology in the 360 and computers....the xbox IS "limited" with certain specification and the PC has much more capability....this is common knowledge. Any PC to Xbox game is LIMITED on what they can or can not do. Every arcade game has to meet certain specifications (take your pick on whatever type of performance test). Instead of trying to flame someone, maybe do some research about what you can and cant do with PC/Xbox games......then step up to the plate and take a swing, otherwise you'll just make yourself look like an idiot....again.

His question was "And a little off topic, but why would the minecraft peeps release a beta version to xbox when there's a much better PC version they could have used instead?"
You did not address that question with a correct answer. You said it was because of hardware limitations, which is not the case. The XBLA version will be updating to the current version of Minecraft PC.
Also, I was not flaming you. I can see why you thought I was though, because I used the phrase "don't know what you are talking about" but I did not mean it with the same attitude you think I did.
Let's not resort to name-calling like children, mkay?
I used to make spawning pads of grass and then surround them with water channels. The animals get pushed into one stream and in to a drowner I made. I also had a hostile mohb trap that dropped them in to the same stream so i had all the mobs together.

Don't forget the torches lining the inside of the passive mob trap since they are attracted to light.

Actually my statement is true. The PC version of minecraft has over 2 trillion blocks (many say "infinite" which is true), and the xbox version is at 1000x1000 because of limitation purposes. The xbox version may expand bigger, but it wont be to the same level of PC. The xbox version also, while most likely will be update, will not be at the PC level at the same exact time. It takes months to submit a patch for consoles, and more time to test it for bugs.....by the time that patch has been approved and avaliable, PC will be 2 more versions ahead. Next gen consoles is another question, but for the Xbox 360, you will see a very "smaller" scaled minecraft version. It is still a very fun game, but please dont give false information and hope to the people thinking that the xbox version will be equivalent to the PC. You can look at any PC to Xbox game and see how scaled back they are. Thank you very much, this message has been brought to you by common knowledge, not everyone has it.....but best of luck!

You still didnt answer the original question properly.
They released it as 1.6.6 beta, because that is the stable version that they began working on a year ago. That's it. Thats the answer.
Everyone knows that PCs can have higher specs, duh.
Everyone knows the map size wont be as big as PC, duh.
Yes, xbox WILL infact, and it has be confirmed over and over again, be updated to the same version as PC, meaning ALL features of PC version.
It isn't minecraft light. All the features of there, except it has a more limited map.

The reason why they chose V1.6.6 was cause, when Minecraft was annouce last year, it was on V1.6 or something around there. So when they said it is coming on 360, they started from whatever version they had at the time. Plus, the 360 doesn't have java as stated and they have to build it from scratch.

.....you just said everything i just told you. Saying what i told you back to me, doesn't make you seem any smarter lol. I'm ohhh so sorry i didn't answer his question "properly", i wasn't aware of the "properly answering of questions" police that would be barking orders on how to answer questions. Everything that i have stated has been true from start to finish, i apologize for not dumbing it down to you from the start, i was unaware of your IQ. If you have any problems with how i answer questions in the future, please feel free to shed another tear and stomp the ground. Enjoy your day

I'm not too fond of the current Pc version (1.2.5 Full)
