Hey, I want to host a Minecraft server but my dad says that it will slow his computer down if connected to the same network and he knows NOTHING about Minecraft server hosting... I cant host a server from a company because my dad wont allow it. I need everything about server hosting so I can port forward my server, including if it slows a computer down. PEACE!

Hey! My name's Jace, I am really awkward and shy at times, so I stay inside because where better than the internet? ^-^. I'm into games such as Portal 1/2, GMod, Starbound, and of course Minecraft! I'd describe myself as mature and independent, but I do enjoy a conversation. I'm a fangirl too, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Elementary, Teen Wolf, The Vampire Diaries & The Originals are the most favourite TV shows that I like to watch. I'm British *Drinks boiling hot cup of Tea* In Minecraft, redstone & command blocks are my main things that keep me busy. You may also know me as:

Just an FYI becoming a server owner makes you a target to anyone you've pissed off. So if they have your IP Address and port they can Denial of Service attack you which can take you offline and break your router so be careful. If you do decide to open the server get donations then buy a sever under a host. Which will reduce lag among other things.
When an Internet connection is in use it will slow down for all computers (although generally not much). You can use QoS in the router to give one computer priority on the network (meaning the router will slow down everything else in favor of that one computer so it gets the fastest speed it can (while still allowing other connections to continue)).

DDoS attacks don't break your router. They're a temporary thing; what they do is flood it with so many packets that it can't handle them so it freezes. Restarting your router would fix that (so basically just unplugging it and plugging it in again). But if they keep DDoSing it then when you plug it in again it's gonna get DDoS'ed again.
Also, people can find the city you live in through your IP (at least, the city containing the node your IP is in). So if you're lets say in Toronto, and the node is in Toronto, people can look up your IP and see it's in Toronto (not an exact address however). But lets say you're out in the country and the closest node is in Toronto, they'll still see Toronto.
And of course, if you've got security flaws people can scan for those and then break in (so just make sure only the ports you need are open).
Hello, Hosting a minecraft off of your PC/iMac wont slow other PC's down. Just the network. When your running your server, all of the wifi will be taken up by you which is bad. Servers tend to make your CPU level very high if its a slow PC.
Hi, Owning a Minecraft server wont necessarily slow your internet down... it mostly will, or might lead you to a disaster, well it can, but be careful of what you do with your server and how you create your server that's all i have to say for now, have fun if you do create a server!

Just want to make sure my new server isnt causing these internet drops
Time-travel mod request! (It's long over-due and would be fantastic!)
