In my world folder I have a folder called "mcmmo_data" and from what I hear, it's some sort of block placing log so users don't farm mcmmo? The folder size is out of hand and I think it's partially responsible for the increased draw on resources on my server, plus it makes backing up my server files take 4 times longer. Anyone know if there are any side effects to deleting this folder? Like will my user lose their levels? Pretty sure those are stored in plugins/mcMMO/FlatFileStuff/mcmmo.users If no, is there a way I can disable files getting dumped (logged) there in the future?
Also, plugins/mcMMO/backup (are these zip files needed?) I feel like doing some spring cleaning..
When I reset the world (for 1.3) I can wipe the mcmmo_data folder in the world folder right? I still don't understand the purpose of that massive folder :/
I deleted all of the mcmmo_data files on a test server and all my levels are in-tact, in fact, I don't notice anything missing, can anyone explain what the world/mcmmo_data folder is for? It sure is big!
Looking through the source, it seems to be used to keep a log of every block that has been placed by players in chunks. This is used to stop abuse of skills and to prevent awarding xp for breaking a block previously placed by a player.
So deleting it won't do much damage.
Thank you, that's the answer I was hoping for! Do you know if there is a way to disable this logging?
Also interested in this. I use a MySQL but it still saves a ton of files.
lol.. that's not very promising imapseudonym, that was going to be my next attempt, thanks for saving me the trouble
Anyone know if this logging can be disabled? After only 2 months the mcmmo_data folder got way out of hand and from what I've tested it's pretty useless. I searched the config files and didn't find anything, I might have overlooked something though.
Once you delete then, I would suggest connecting it to your database. Any database is usage is better then flat file (imo). It needs to keep less in RAM, your harddrive does not need to seek so much for files, and in a database, all your info, data, and configurations are stored in one central location. all around better practice.

Agreed, I'm switching to MySQL for the data storage anyway but from what imapseudonym posted, even with MySQL configuration the world/mcmmo_data folder still accumulates massive amounts of tiny files, we're talking tens of thousands after two months and that can't be good. That's what we'd like to disable.
I also asked on the bukkit forum but posts have a way of getting lost rather quickly there. I'll post solution when I find it.
I just looked at my mcmmo folder. I've used MySQL for about 2 weeks now and my mcmmo file is still at 500mbs. So I still feel like it's saving way too many files.
its absolutely insane how many files mcmmo saves...I just started a new world in 1.3, and mcmmo seems seriously broken. (I use mySQL no flatfile storage)
Just some stats on my new world:
10k by 10k (80% generated)
Size of Region Folder: 1.5GB - 409Files total.
Now, that is pretty reasonable, and I thought my server could easily handle this new world + my old world (I am limited to 7GB) But nope, with mcmmo this is impossible, I was wondering why my server magically reached 7GB in a matter of hours.
Here are some stats that I have accumulated so far using FileZilla, because that is the only way I can gather this data. I have been adding all files in the mcmmo folder to my queue, this allows me to check and see how much data is in the folder without actually downloading it. I have been adding to queue for over an hour thus far and here is what I have gotten so far.
Total Folders located in /mcmmo: 623 (http://imgur.com/5ytxs,MmJup#0)
Directory I am currently in: 80/623 (AFTER 1 HOUR of parsing) (~13%)
Total Files in queue thus far: 22000+ (http://imgur.com/5ytxs,MmJup#1)
Total File size thus far: 400MB.
so ~13% of the directories in mcmmo account for upwards of 400MBs, my world size is 1.4GB. Now if this trend continues (which I'm sure it will) my mcmmo folder is bigger than my world.
I would not recommend using mcMMO with LARGEBIOMES, or 1.3.1 right now, because it is seriously broken.
EDIT: From what I have read, apparently you should disable mcmmo if you are prerendering your world (which I am doing with worldborder), then reenable it once you are done.
Cosx, thanks for posting all this information, I found it very useful however if you are running Bukkit v1.3.1 already you must be using a development build right?
I was using BorderGuard, very excited to discover WorldBorder in your post it looks like it does a lot more, and it generates and trims??! Awesome, thank you!
I really hope someone figures this out, I love mcMMO and if it went away there would be a LOT of unhappy campers on my server.
Still looking for a way to disable this insane amount of logging in the world/mcmmo_data folder.
Yeah maybe someone from McMMO will figure out a way to disable this. maybe in the config file you can set it so it gives xp to placed blocks? Maybe that will render the files less for some reason? I am going to try that.
I deleted my mcmmo_data folder this morning and I'm going on 4 hours now of deleting via FTP.. this is after only 1 week, I'm so close to removing mcMMO all together, I just know I'll have a hoard of angry users if I do tho :/
Do you have Root Access?
If you dont just ask your host to delete that folder for you. [Be very specific, my host deleted my world....] hurray for backups.
Also MCMMO just made their "Logging" alot more efficient so expect smaller files.
Also, plugins/mcMMO/backup (are these zip files needed?) I feel like doing some spring cleaning..
Thanks in advance!

Do you know what all these files do? Would configuring with a MySQL Database be an alternative?

I delete mine when its about 500mb large, no harm done. It's just to prevent mcmmo farming of skills.
Right on, thanks. Just wish it didn't take so long to delete, that number of files takes a while to process in FTP client.

I'll give this a chance, if it's still nuts I'll pull the ol' Roloc maneuver.
