i noticed, but i'll explain to you why i said it usually happens with the servers.
My first clue was the "Failed to login." that means that there isn't something wrong with java, there is either issues validating your account, or it can't login for some reason. This happens to me when the servers are down.
My second clue was the URL it provided. "Session.Minecraft.net" is the Mutiplayer servers that Mojang has.
Thirdly, your connecting to a server. i can tell by it giving you the server ID.

I'll also explain why
Some servers do not connect to Mojang. These are like Bukkit servers, etc, that don't use the Minecraft Server manager that does connect to Mojang. So if it can't connect to Mojang, It spews out this error.
Wow thank you so much, I didn't think it was as easy as deleting a line in Windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts! I've been having this error for weeks, I was afraid I was never going to fix it
Oh thank you so much guy ! Deleting a line in Windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts solved the problem ! Thank you so much ! Really !
So what did you do? I tried deleting the last line in the "hosts" file which looked like this:
184.73.223.40 session.minecraft.net
That didn't do anything and after another failed login attempt on the server, the "184.73.223.40 session.minecraft.net" line had reappeared in the hosts file. So which one did you delete?
