I've been having a bit of trouble playing Minecraft lately. Whenever I load it up, the title screen will start flashing weird colors. After a minute or so, the game just crashes and half the time I get a Blue Screen of Death or the computer freezes and I have to restart the computer entirely.
The game was running fine at 12w38b, but when I updated to 12w40a two weeks later the game flashed the colors and blue screened me. I thought it was possibly the snapshots, but it's not. When I downgraded back to 1.3.2 at that time, same thing- flashing colors and BSOD. It happens with 1.4.2 as well.
Is it my computer or the game itself? If anyone can help, please do!
Basic stuff here, but if you have any saves take them out, then delete your .minecraft folder and try it again. If that did not work, it is your computer.
Do you play any other games on your computer? Has it ever BSOD'd on you when you were doing something else? I'd say it could be your video card memory. Try some other games and see if it acts up. What kind of computer is it and how old is it? If it was your motherboard, RAM or hard drive you would see it crashing outside of minecraft. If it's your Java installation you could try removing all versions of Java from your computer, reboot, reinstall Java from Java.com and try again. I'd also remove any mods just to check (if you have any installed).

Republic Commando and Battlefront also displayed the flashing colors. I uninstalled and reinstalled Java... no luck.
My computer is about five years old...here are the specs from the Properties section of My Computer.
Yeah, sounds kinda like your video card. Did you add a video card to this computer at some point or are you using what it came with? You could try updating your video card drivers but it sounds like the card is bad.

I deleted the .Minecraft in its entirety, reinstalled, and no luck. So I guess it is my computer. Huh. That's a shame...thanks for the help, though!

How would I update the drivers, exactly? I'm using an NVidia GeForce 8500 G.T
