I need help with my tekkit server, i have tried hosting one, time and time again, but i do everything right, and nobody can join! I realize that this is a very common problem, and knowing that, i tried and tried to use their information, and it doesn't help me at all... Anyway, i am almost 100% positive that my problem is a port forwarding issue. My friend, who hosts a server on his pc, told me to go to command prompt and instead of using the first IPV4, use the second one on the list. I tried that, and it said somthing about not being a LAN ip address? Here is some of my info about my problem...
OS: Windows Vista on a 64 bit
Router: Netgear
Router model: WNR2000v2
Settings for my server (like i said, problably a port forwarding issue):
#Minecraft server properties
#Sun Jul 15 11:04:30 CDT 2012
allow-nether=true
level-name=UberKill
enable-query=false
allow-flight=true
server-port=25565
level-type=DEFAULT
enable-rcon=false
level-seed=
server-ip=
max-build-height=256
spawn-npcs=true
white-list=false
spawn-animals=true
online-mode=true
pvp=true
difficulty=1
gamemode=0
max-players=5
spawn-monsters=true
generate-structures=true
view-distance=10

I have tried using canyouseeme.org (or com?) and portforward.com, i have tried everything, my estimate of the total time i spent trying to make this server would be, problably 24+ hours(of course, not consecutively) As i said before, i have tried everything, i tried all the ips i could find, First IPV4, Second IPV4, GatewayIP, the public ip that i googled "what is my ip" and have checked on ipchicken, everything!
BTW, i did tweak the .bat script, because i couldnt reserve enough memory, it went from,
java -Xmx3G -Xms2G -jar Tekkit.jar nogui
pause
to
java -Xmx1G -Xms1G -jar Tekkit.jar nogui
pause
Please, if you need any more information, ask me, and ill provide it! I am running a Tekkit server for a Server Lets Play im doing with my friend.
Thank you very much for helping, but this didn't help
like i said, im almost positive that its a port forwarding issue.
And lol im not turning my firewall off ive had viruses before and they are not pretty...
Besides, i have to go into my pc settings and change some variables, and change them back
when i start my server and Techniclauncher XD
Hmmm... It's not always the second one on the list. It varies between computer. It should be the one that starts with 192.168.*, 127.*, or 10.10.* (but not 127.0.0.1.)

I know my ipv4 is 192.168.1.1, and i do know which ip to give other people, i just said i tried everything, just in case.
now i am 100% positive its a port forwarding issue, i port forwarded port 25565 on my 1st IPV4. (i also restarted my router, now its 192.168.1.4 intead of 1.7,which of course i updated ^^)
What are you trying to fix? Leaving this empty is perfectly fine, but putting something there leaves room for error (e.g. using the wrong address or if the adress changes for some reason).

Leaving it empty for my server make anyone outside my network unable to connect, including other computers on the network and my own hosting which happens to host and play on the same machine using the external IP. It may be true for you, but it is for a few people at least, since this was my only issue and google helped with that.
It's worth trying, I've seen sillier things happen

This creates a new error when starting the server up:
FAILED TO BIND PORT
The exeption was: java.net.BindExeption: could not assign requested address: JVM_Bind
Perhaps a server is already running on that port?
This is very, very, very strange. Make sure to leave the server-ip field blank, that won't help you. You may need to allow Minecraft through your firewall, there's a video above - judging by your posts you haven't done that yet.

Hey I think I figured this out and I just make a fourm account just so I could tell you,
when you go into your netgear router and go to port forwarding you need to set the internal ip as you IPv4 but you if just type it in it won't let you, but it says "or select from currently attached devices." click the one with your IPv4 and you're set.
I also have a net gear but it's a little different from yours,
hope this helps

ip chicken ip is the you use for server ip..
If all that is verified check out this vid
Last ditch -- turn of firewall.. do this at your own risk, may bring viruses if not carefull, also turn it on after you are done playing on server
like i said, im almost positive that its a port forwarding issue.

Dont give this ip, give the one you see from ipchicken, again allow minecraft server through firewall
As i said in the last post, i know which one to give people(my public IP, just because i didnt make it clear enough), I JUST TRIED EVERYTHING!
server-ip=
What did you put after equals? There should be something.
If nothing, you should put your own local network address.
Since you copy pasted your config, I assume you didn't.
I was litterally about to post that XD
