i have a server that i host on my PC and also play on, and my friend connects to it. was wondering if theres a way to make the server use more ram?
PC specs
6gb dd3 ram
i7 950 3ghz
gts 450
INTERNET specs
Download 21.14
upload 2.14
i know i dont have fast upload speed but i only host the server for me and 2 others bassicaly, so how much ram should i let the server use and how do i do that? i remember reading that you have to make a .bat file for the server but this was back in 1.3 when i use to play so im not sure if its the same way. If it is can someone post a link showing me how to do that? any help is greatly appreciated :smile.gif:
If you do not know how to make a Windows Batch File, just start up notepad and paste that in. When you go to "Save As..." change the type to All Files and add .bat to the end of the file name. Be sure to put the batch file in the same folder as the server. Instead of running the server by loading the jar, just run the batch file.

EDIT AGAIN!
one more "problem" . i pressed f3 and noticed hat minecraft was only using 175mb out of 910 mb. isnt that a bit low? or does minecraft normally run at that low of ram?

Well that's the game. The server is able to use up to 2 gigs to dedicate to the server. The amount that Minecraft uses isn't controlled by the server. And if Minecraft is uses 175mb, that's really good. It means that the game doesn't need much ram to run. So your computer is perfect for this. Aside from you Upload speed.

Hi KrazyFear, this is an old topic and in the archives. I'd recommend opening a new thread in the server support section of the forum http://www.minecraftforum.net/forum/152-server-support/
Include your system specs, CPU, RAM, etc. Also include the arguments you are using in your batch file.
Open w/ notepad! U should try Notepad++ it´s alot better!
