I've decided to start a small series of pre- and post-WWI ships, chiefly the RMS Titanic, and a ship from the book Operation Red Jericho called the Expedient.
The Expedient is a cargo and exploring vessel secretly armed with two heavy artillery pieces, a mini submarine, and a well-trained crew.

Only just noticed your post about the early 20th century ships. I'm interested to see how they turn out. I've been tempted myself to build some more dreadnoughts to go alongside my HMS Iron Duke. Perhaps SMS Derfflinger or HMS Bellerophon... so many choices!

Indeed, old chap. Their hulls are hard to make >.< But they're simple above the water, so I can hide my ineptitude.

Heh. In many ways they're simpler to shape than sailing vessels, but then they're a lot bigger too so there's a lot more blocks to place.
I've just had my first long minecraft session in goodness knows how long. I've finished the main hull of SMS Derfflinger, and I'll probably start on the superstructure once I've had something to eat.

Hey, Ive been stalking this thread, and several like it for a while now, hoping to improve my own ships! This post really excites me, as I not only love the book your refering to, but also have built a few large ocean liners from that era. Cant wait to see how they turn out!
Heres a screenshot of one, not finished, and sadly wont be, as the server closed:
I love the look of the Night Servant. Just, amazing. The edits make it look even better. And the latest one, the Dutchman, fantastic job. ^^ Keep it up, it's neat seeing all of these.

Discipline, Pride, and Courage. A dangerous combination.
Most of the forward deck is occupied by two huge cannons hidden under a cargo deck, as well as a biplane.
The rear deckhouse houses a twelve-pounder, the middle deckhouse conceals a minisub, and the sides of the bridge hide torpedo tubes. The middle of the ship around the heavy guns is armored, and in the depths a secondary helm is ready to take over should the wheelhouse be rendered useless.

At the risk of coming across as rude, I have a preposition for you:
I can't build ships for poop, and I could use someone passionate with building them to help me out in the map I'm designing. In honesty, going to people like this is my last resort, but I get scraps of people otherwise.
To put it short: what I need is not too much - a couple of 'generic' pirate galleons (with or without interior), built as if to resemble a ~1600 era Spanish or English galleon; and yes, I know little regarding ships, I've tried constructing my own w/tutorials but it never goes very well.
I have a server for the map that will be open for you judging from when you post
If you cannot help, I understand, but perhaps you could point me in the direction of some detailed tutorials? Or just some tips?
I can build a few ships on the server. Send me a PM with the details

But, MrBeasty has made an awesome video of the Flying Dutchman:
And I have started work on one of my 1920s ships, the modified q-ship Expedient.

Ya, I'm gonna make a different version with all the false deckhouses and plates removed, showing the guns.
Apart from what? :/
The best boat I built was with 5 wooden planks, using a crafting bench
