The above post is REALLY important to me. If any of you would care to advise on it, please be bold.
Moving on though... in moments I'll begin building the second half of the 'support update'.
Look for it in about 45-60 minutes. (yeah, takes that long for me to build these posts) :/
Cool, yeah. Can you link to specific posts in a thread? Cause that would work just fine.
You can. If you mouse over the post number in the top right corner, it is actually a link that you can copy.
There are pros and cons to having it all in one thread or making separate threads for each build.
The pros for having one thread are:
1. You don't need to worry about looking like a spammer. I don't think that would be a problem, tho. Building in survival will slow you down enough that your threads should be spaced pretty well apart.
2. Your thread will live on the first three pages. Having lots of threads means that your main index thread won't get many replies and your older threads will sink out of sight.
The pros of having a thread for each build are:
1. Easier organization.
2. Feedback is also organized. All advice, praise, criticism, etc. will be located in the same thread as the build it pertains to.
3. Less chance of page lag due to too many pictures. This is a problem I ran into with my own project thread, but I had spoilers with a handful of pictures of each build/feature in the OP. If your pictures are more spread out, then it probably wont be an issue. Still worth mentioning.
EDIT: This is an issue that I've had to experiment with on my own project thread, which is why I brought it up. I recently decided that I should go ahead with a multi-thread approach, but am spacing out the release of new threads (looking like a spammer is a much bigger problem if you are posting new threads of old work! :P). If you want ideas, you can check out my project thread by clicking the banner in my sig.
In this update: Brief Mod Explanation
Starter Farm ->made simple
Swervish Style farm ->made non-simple
Peanut-butter-jelly-time
Brief Mod Explanation
Their are three mods in use here;
Beer & Wine
This mod allows for growing barley and grapes... period industries for the castles I will be building. Look for massive barley fields, and massive vineyards around upcoming structures.
Haycraft
This mod allows for two important things and one critical thing.
Important are the hay bales that will someday dot the barley and wheat fields, and the wattle & daub block and three hay-blocks (roofing) that will one day make up many of the village houses surrounding the castles.
CRITICAL-- Scarecrows!! They keep mobs out of your crops.... (kinda)
Pams Mod -HarvestCraft
This is HUGE HUGE HUGE... it adds something like 25 new crop-plants, their unique harvested food ingredients and their unique seeds. It also adds something like 150 new foods that can be crafted. But most importantly to me... it adds a whole huge list of new 'placeable' plants that I will be using to 'decorate' my projects … ahhh landscaping It also adds the ability to dye tree leaves allowing for an autumn setting if I choose. Starter Farm ->made simple
How did it take me so long to realize that every river is a source of farmland? Not only is this a 'added realism' element, but it is a way of using the built in game mechanics to our advantage!
The process is stupidly simple.
1 Realization “HEY! This block is within four spaces of … water!”
2 Cut back the hill so that there is a four block strip of farmland running all along the river
3 Plow & Plant
Over the course of about 100 MC days, I was able to use this simple farm strip to plant/harvest/replant enough times to build up a bank of seeds for the next phase
Still going amazing!
I suggest that for the next castle you build, build the castle THEN the village and farms sorounding it.
Also.
Lets say after more updates you finish the farm and castle.
Make a new post of a walkthrough of it, it would also be good if u made a video of each castles, Just to try to keep everything organized.
lol sorta rambling on
Awesome builds dude!
Holly crap, how do you do this so fast? LOL man you sure make me try harder...
OK OK Ill repeat. I am compressing about a month of gameplay into a week of posts.
Ill be caught up after two more updates; The Mine, and the Dark Tower.... At which point I will link a world DL .jar file so you can go run around the support area of the Heptarchy in any way you please. Far better than a video I think.
I need a powered rail tutorial.
I am strongly considering building a 'subway station' under my starter house, with a spur line running out to each individual build site.
We are talking about somewhere in the neighborhood of 3,000 rail blocks per spur, at 20-40 spurs, but I think it will make both the construction as well as the touring easier, so Im probably gonna try at least one spur.

Do you just need the basics of how powered rails work? If that's the case go to the wiki- http://www.minecraft...ki/Powered_Rail
If you need something more in depth then maybe this? http://gaming.stacke...ed-rail-station (The best answer)
I'm not sure if the second link is what your looking for exactly.
I think thats what he was asking for- A simple powered rail tutorial. (Not anything fancy)
So I went back and read through your thread, I saw it when you had just started it. And wow, your... fast. I can't wait to see what more you do with this one.

I love how colorful the farm is too :3
LOL
How can I be clear?
This thread is not happening in real time. It is highly compressed. I started the project in the last week of July, and have been saving screenshots all along... I just started the thread four days ago or so....

IM NOT GOING FAST!
Yeah sure. Your lies won't work anymore, we have already figured out you are magic.
I for one am excited to see your progress on this build. It cheered me up to see you come back from the hiatis and finish the Neuschwanstein project. I hope you can complete this epic task, best of luck.

so u wont go in top speed?
aw...
lol, however that wont stop me for endlessly clicking refresh
SSSLLLOOOWWWWWWER than you think... for example, I have spent two hours today just running in straight lines on the outer peripheries of my known world, stopping every 200 blocks to take map-screen-shot, so that I can enlarge my 'world map' Trying to select a spot to start excavations for the first main castle.
Right now, since so much of the 'total structure' is the huge surrounding 'mote', Im thinking about building it in the ocean, and filling in some land around it, rather than building it on land and digging out a huge mote around it.

Its going to be a BIG decision.
Build it in the ocean.
For one its realistic as in medieval times, that would be a easily defendable area. (If you do that then you NEED to make ports though.)
As a ancient history/medieval nerd (Thats also why im very excited about your project.), a medieval leader would jump at the chance for something thats near the ocean with the only enterance being a small crack of land

Well. you make a good argument.
In the ocean it is.
And I think I have found the right spot on my map.
Need to do a little more reconnoitering, yet.
I suspect Ill get started with building on Sunday.

YAY
lol......
Oh and a word of caution, since your doing it in the ocean your hardest task will be making it look jagged, impenetrable, realistic, if your a perfectionist, you may even have to create the mountains from the ground up.
The castle alone would almost be a after thought.
of course if you dont like that idea you could make it slightly hilly/(plains biome), where the area, where the castle is, like a peninsula, with the castles back towards the sea, (Imagine it like a castle in the heel of a miniturized italy.
What ever method you choose, the most important thing is realism.
On the bright side:
The castle wont seem as difficult.

The Big Wheat Field...
Clear, Irrigate, Plow … Plant, Harvest, replant rinse repeat.
Add Barley
BLAM... dammit
Here is the bottom land and the wheat field together
The BIG Farm
Clear the grass (obtaining more vege seeds)(see the wheat at the top of the hill)
Flatten the field and irrigate
Plow (took 19 stone hoes)
Add a walking (running) path and plant in 64 block+ rows
Pam's crops do not grow as fast or easily as Mojangs. You actually have to be in the same chunk
But eventually they do mature for harvest
The finished 'support' farm:
Notice the grape trellises between the wheat field and the river.
Peanut-butter-jelly-time
After a first harvest of the support farm, I have a 'Useful Chest' (see modlist) full of vegies, fruits, grains, spices, etc.
Lets make a sammich
Grrrr lost the Strawberry jam screen shot
And did I mention 150ish new foods, LOL?
Here's a google spreadsheet of the crops and foods,
