Can u put clearer windows instructions? This topic does not teach anything about how to install in WIndows, just makes users use roundabout ways in order to figure out what they need. It shouldn't have Windows in the title if there are no clearer instructions than current one.
What could be clearer than adding "url": "http://127.0.0.1/" to a text file? It doesn't get much simpler than that.
You managed to decompile and continue without me giving source code? O_O Bro, you are a god. Of course do whatever the [REDACTED] you want!!!! Good luck on it
Replacing the urls with localhost is unecessary. Just delete every occurance of this line:
"serverreq": true
It force rechecks whether the local library is out of sync with the remote one, I guess. For example the Forge url is wrong, there's no library at that url, but the launcher won't complain because it comes with a copy of the library and without the serverreq command, it won't bother to check. Without a serverreq command, it will only check the url if there no library file locally.
Izzat so? I'll have to check that out, lol.
EDIT: Idk, I just deleted my 1.6.2 vanilla version and "force updated" and the json file they provide has no "serverreq": true in it at all, and its still taking forever to launch.

If you do a force update, then it's to be expected that it also force updates all libraries, don't you think?
Force update in name only, really. I told it to install it to use version 1.6.2, and since it did not exist it had to redownload the jar and json (or does it create the json on the fly? dunno on that one...) Stilld taking forever with vanilla mc, and its still looking for the stuff, and there is not a single serverreq in site. Perhaps its assumed to be true if it is not included.
Hmmm, perhaps net.optifine would be more accurate, no?
*considering updating the original thread and installer package I put together....*

Yes, I can confirm if you delete the default Minecraft folder 1.6.2 in the subfolder versions, the launcher attempts to redownload the libraries which are needed for the vanilla Minecraft, even if they are already there. Here it doesn't take long to download actually...
Hm, now I've looked at the log in the development console for an already up-to-date profile/version and it says
Finished downloading XXX for job 'Version & Libraries': Used own copy as it matched etag
even for entries which have a "serverreq = true" line the same message appears for entries without that line... I guess I don't know what it does then.
The only actual server request being done seems to be for the main minecraft jar which is not a library but a version:
Finished downloading xxx\.minecraft\versions\1.6.2-Forge\1.6.2-Forge.jar for job 'Version & Libraries': Couldn't connect to server (responded with 403) but have local file, assuming it's good
Job 'Version & Libraries' finished successfully
Hmm. Well I've updated my Forge+OptiFine thread + installers to use the .minecraft/libraries/net location. However, I will say that using the localhost url works 100%, give it a shot

I won't notice any difference because the Minecraft process starts in an instant. I don't seem to have that problem you are experiencing to begin with.
Lucky, my pc is... shall we say less than stellar?

Now I have a question, can you use this to prevent the launcher from looking for the main jar on s3.amazonaws? because obviously whatever name we use for our custom version (Forge-1.6.2, OptiForge-1.6.2, etc) doesn't exist on their server and is wasting time and resources.

Good job on this speedup, although I do recommend updating your .json code a bit. Also, it would be good if you pointed out what lines to change if a player is using a latest build of Forge instead of the recommended build. Or I could, up to you. Anyways, thanks for this again, I'm looking forward to any other OptiForge tweaks you may have lying around.

Yeah, I think I'll go into the anatomy of the json file for others's sake here soon, I may get it pretty well but it does no good if I don't share the knowledge with the community

For me I followed the directions in the last tutorial and it was working. I copied and pasted the json edit from your post in this thread into the Optiforge json and now my minecraft loads with 1 failure. Im on a mac if its important.
Please tell me how I can fix this.

The json posted here is just for example's sake, not meant to be used instead of the original json. If you used my automated installer just copy OptiForge-1.6.2.json outta the zip and use it to replace the json you messed up.

heh, I've got another thread to have separate launcher profiles with unique mods to each :P. I really like this new launcher, once you've studied it a bit you can do a lot with it
