The Escalation is an adventure map based on Half-Life. A 1998 science fiction video game developed by Valve Software.
Black Mesa is a modern science research corporation located deep in the deserts of New Mexico, USA. Second millennium has just passed a few months ago. You are Isaac J. Connor, a Caltech graduate and professor of biophysics currently working in Black Mesa facility. Everything was fine today until this morning.
Extraterrestrial lifes from beyond our dimension has invaded into the complex thanks to the catastrophic experiment failure, bringing panic and chaos into the lab. Those exotic monsters have killed most of your fellow comrades. But a few have managed to survive, and they have agreed to help you. Isaac Connor, now trapped in this subterranean labyrinth science complex, must escape from this laboratory before anything worse happens.
Sneak into a top secret laboratory where those unethical scientists were on atrocious experiments, ascend up to the surface of vast, emptiness of New Mexico desert, and hide from the marines who had promised to rescue you and your friends. Travel into beyond observable universe in order to reverse everything that went wrong this morning.
"Save the Earth"? Well, maybe. But that's a pretty low priority compared to saving your own skin.
There are older Media Releases you can find in this thread. They are buried somewhere down there. They are worthless however, because they are too old to represent the current look of the map.
February 24th 2014 Media Release is the oldest Media Release I officially approve as being the current version.
But I warn you again, they look drastically different from the current version of the map, and therefore should not be used to judge the map.
Features
*Inspired by Half-Life, The Escalation aims to create environments during the faithful Resonance Cascade incident in Black Mesa. A modern science research lab with aliens invading with a failed experiment. A storytelling-combat based gameplay in a highly detailed seamlessly connected world makes this map a faithful tribute to the Half-Life franchise.
*Escalation differs from many other adventure maps in Minecraft in a way that the map aims to re-envision the gameplay mechanics of the Half-Life. There are no cutscenes, there are no hints, there are no stats, money, magic spell, or level-ups, and is driven entirely through the dialogs, just like in Half-Life.
*Featuring never-seen-before protagonist Isaac Joshua Connor, a biophysicist working at Black Mesa, Escalation will offer you new a story to tell. It is not a recreation of the original Half-Life. Project your own persona into him as you did with Gordon from Half-Life, as Isaac is also mute like any other Half-Life heroes.
*Over 1536 hours of work since August 2012.
*Average 14 hours of playtime with total of 17 chapters for singleplayer. Featuring a large map that is as wide as at least a few kilometres.
*Map setting resemble those from Half-Life. This is not Aperture Science, nor a medieval-themed fantasy, obviously not another FNaF recreations.
*Lots of puzzles in order to continue spirits of Half-Life.
*Takes place in same timeline as in HL universe; you may recognize some of the original locations from the main series.
*Working retinal scanners, vending machines, first-aid-kits, automatic doors, and so on.
*Chapter selection room.
*Yes. This map will have a lot of science/mathematical jokes and satires.
*Contains a lot of scripted events sorely using the assets from Minecraft (NBT data tag edits and command blocks).
*Custom Resource pack. It contains lots and lots of Half-Life textures and sounds in order to make it more Half-Life.
*No mods required.
*Refer to some of the Infoday Media Releases to see more detailed features!
The map is in heavy, extreme Work In Progress state and not so likely to be finished in this year.
We originally expected map to be finish in early 2016, but currently because of the other kind of works we are currently facing (almost 90% because of school and job) there's even possibility that it won't be released until 2017.
Please understand us as it is always to make everything better and beautiful when you play. You don't want to see just few zombies lying around big boring square room made out of stone, do you? We are putting a lot of details into level design and gameplay so although it should take long, you won't disappoint!
Please remember this famous quote Shigeru Miyamoto has left: "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."
Please wait until we finish the map. It will worth the wait. At least thats what we hope.

Awesomeness. Can you give a rough estimate of the playtime for the demo. I'd much appreciate it
The map took me about 2 hours. But since I made map, it will take few more times for new players. Recent beta testing revealed that playtime is about 3-4+ hours without any given hints.

Woah! That's just for the demo? I expected the demo to be a short one
So by proportions, I'd say the demo will be about 30-40 minutes. Does that sound about right?
Nope, Demo map is indeed about 3-4 hours (maybe less if you are super good at Minecraft) And full map (which is not released) will be 14~19 chapters (I haven't decided how many chapters will have) with same 14~19 hours of playtime, with each chapter having at least 1~2 hours of playtime

Yeah, it is. It's name is 'root' meaning it is the root directory of all image file. (Bit of computer related joke, as C:\ can be written as root\ sometimes) And by the way, you make great LP series! I'm curious if you'll do LPs of my map?

I wouldn't download it if I didn't plan on it
& Thanks
I hope to get at least a bit of progress tonight. May not have time to release videos before mid next week but it's coming
P.S. One last thing, is the name of the map 'Escalation' or 'The Escalation' or 'Minecraft: Escalation' or 'Minecraft: The Escalation' ?
I need the answer for...reasons.
