About
----------------------
This is a faithful (as minecraftily as possible) recreation of the game Riven by Cyan.
For those who are unfamiliar with the Myst series, they were point and click adventures with a great story and superb graphics. Riven takes place directly after Myst. So I would recommend playing that first.
RivenCraft has working puzzles, light narration, a working 'linking' system via nether and a 64x custom texture pack every area from the game built to a 1x1 scale including areas not reachable in the original game. As well as bonus areas!

Release History

:-( ): version 1.0 released! Game is now in playable state.
version 2.0 released -Added books, fixed puzzles, added more guiding signs, some better textures, fixed some small errors
Jeez I throw up a post and and within thirty seconds have two responses, to have this go forward there would have to be 8-10 builders, 3-4 that are very experienced with mass constructions and terraforming, 1 person who can use mcedit like a boss and a decent server.
No not yet, I think I might treat this more as a hobby for now by myself if no one responds to this post offering a server to host this. If you want to help and don't have a server you could always pick an island and start working on one, and they can be mcedited together into one map later.

I can host, but only via Hamachi and only for a few people. I can't figure out how to set up the server w/o hamachi on my computer for some reason.
EDIT: Just a heads up, I'm making Lapis be a "No Touch Block", meaning the player isn't allowed to pass over it. That way, cheaters can't just skip past part of the game.

I was thinking it would be just a visual recreation first, any and all puzzles would be hammered out at a much later date, there is going to be a custom texture pack so that stone will be the proper color, cobblestone will looked like tooled regular stone and sandstone would look like worn paths.
This is definitely going to be a lot of work considering the puzzles of Riven are more detailed than the simple lever/button setup of Myst. I wish you the best of luck, and can definitely lend a hand if you want.
Just something to keep in mind that I discovered the hard way: using the hd texture patcher makes certain redstone circuits break, especially clocks D: so you'll have to make a descision between the textures and the puzzle complexity
Also curious how that unpassable lapis block whutsurnaym mentioned would work, unless it's only a server/mod thing in which case I personally am against it since I like having maps be easily accessible by everyone :tongue.gif:

No I think a simple invisible block would be useful and work fine to prevent people from jumping into areas they are not supposed to. As for the redstone, I haven't made that complex of redstone yet, but so far haven't had any trouble (crosses fingers). You would bring a lot to the table with your redstone skills and eye for detail. The map is going to be roughly 600x600 +Gehn's world (nether hub) +the small prison island somewhere out of sight.
This is super exciting and I hope you keep faithful to riven and make a single player map version available. It would be cool if you put out a world download so we can see your progress too. But good luck and I hope to play the map once it's done.

I will release a teaser map release with the first island on it so people can see, but I would like the final release to be exciting and a bit of a surprise :smile.gif:
I am going to be as faithful as possible, and near as a 1x1 scale as I can (height restrictions a bit but not bad), and this is going to be a single player map with working puzzles, and light narration for story. But it will be primarily a passive exploration game just like the original.
Oh and if anyone has good ideas on how certain puzzles should work hit me up with a pm, I am always open to ideas!
Jungle island has been terraformed to about 70% completion, and in doing so it hit me just how big a project this is. The texture pack is coming along nicely, most of the textures are simply added as I require them so its hard to gauge its completion.
Need an alternate idea to use for moving walkways/stairs, if anyone has any ideas pm me. Might have to tweak the map to get it to work with pistons...hmm...

Riven?
Oh heck yes.
Tell me if you're going to start on it, I'll have to dust it off and try it out again!
EDIT: I'm also really good at redstone, so I can do all of that for you.
I'm a huge fan of the Myst series.
I'll spend some time playing it, and be back when I'm done.
So I was playing in MCedit today...
One to one is pretty huge but doable.
Do you have a server?
