Infinite wood, a decent amount of stone, at least SOME leather armor, and infinite food are the bare essentials. I can beat almost any map with just that gear. Obviously you want to give iron in Intersection 2 or 3, and diamonds in IS 3 or 4. Think of it as a level system: If you want the player to be as "low-level" as possible for the longest time, then delay his aqquisition of good stuff. Just realize that there are challenges that require water buckets, iron, etc. in order to be doable.
Iron early on is bad, unless you've got the sharpest difficulty curve ever or if you're playing anything from the Dragonstone Keep series.
Diamonds are worse. However, I hate how Waking Up handled diamonds by giving you them not even 50 metres away from the end of the map. No uses for them at all...
Gold is a good medium. You hand out iron picks, and then they can have near infinite gold armour deposits.
I just made an epic bridge along the side of that area, rather than running it. I look forward to seeing an LP of it done "legit." You're doing a good job with your videos as well.
Thanks There's one aggravating drop that you can't survive even with full health, so you have to bring blocks/a pick/feather boots in order to beat it legit. Creeper explosions just make it that much more chaotic O_O

The professional tunnel rat (*raises hand*) can't be deterred by even bedrock behind the walls. I'll just dig in along the side, and place blocks on my side, thus half-building, half-making a tunnel. Line it with bedrock where you feel that it is needed, and put traps where you feel they should go. If I see a "tough" area I instantly head for the wall no matter what, so you can't really stop a determined tunnel rat. Just take tips from Vechs and Three_Two as to how to stop tunnel ratters.
I personally find that Feesh are the best way. They're annoying, troublesome, time-consuming, and even I won't tunnel through them. Plus, they look like stone brick/stone so they are not ugly at all.
Stop me. I dare you.
Ahhh, the massive powers of rhetoric and persuasion I had to bring to bear in order to get MC. I just always use the Adfly links to "contribute" to the creator as best as I can. In this case though, if it must be paid for, I'd obviously decline the offer.
(Besides, who would pay for a forum avatar?)
I would actually be willing to pay a bit of money because I kbow it goes to rosie and not to a random guy I don't know. Supporting rosie is good
But with my parents, never. They are the nicest parents I know, as long as the topic is FAR away fron gaming (they prefer it when I'm drinking over gaming. So, yeah)
(btw my wish for an avatar would be a very derpy old wizard in a purple robe. Most importantly, he is derpy. Purple because it matches my skin and derpy because it matches me)
Although I agree that grinding is false difficulty, in times of dire need as in the starting areas there needs to be more thinking outside the box like Lonely Lava Cavern, and not more Cenote of the Apprentice crap we've put up with for nearly a WHOLE YEAR!
Kinda lulzy and facepalming seeing how some people don't know what "commission" means.
This is the Internets. Where nothing means what it should mean. And where definitions are interchangeable. And where people pioneer new uses for words every day.
I agree, wish online payment is the stronger of the two.
i hate my parents when it comes to gaming...
it took me almost an ENTIRE YEAR convincing them that minecraft.net was not some virus site that would steal their money...*sight*
and don't get me started on steam.

Every bloody CTM map series boasts that it's bigger, longer, and harder than other CTM series. It's almost as if it's a **** measuring contest. (bigger, longer, harder...)
Great picture! Seeing Vetches rage like that makes me happy.

There ain't much left of the world these days. The gods have forsaken us, there's no denying that. But still you press on. For what? A chance to sift through the ashes one last time? The hope to one day be called a hero? Whatever your reason, you've got a lot of work to do. The corruption won't leave without a fight, so you better get started.
What kinds of area would you like to see underwater (only stuff that is possible right now, so nothing that requires jellyfeesh or something like that).
Right now I have on my list:
-Seaweed Forest (REALLY dense)
-Volcanic Area
-Overhang Mountains
-An area that has like these massive cracks in the ground
Because I want around 10 different areas, I need lot's o' ideas (and yes, there WILL be a shipwreck. It's the white wool)
An underwater cavern that uses special coordinate Ghast spawners to mimick jellyfish. (Good for an early area because Ghast Fireballs will go very slowly and create a pretty good effect. You get to punch them back pretty easily too.) Of course, give them Water Breathing.

that's kind of what I figured for a normal map, but what about the one I'm working on now, where you start out basically NEEDING diamond gear, and the difficulty just ramps up from there? Is that concept really too excessive on the difficulty? Maybe I should tone it back slightly, so it starts off at needing full iron, and goes from there. The concept I've got is basically, there's a box with two sets of armor, and a couple tools, at the spawn, and while you have that awesome armor from the start, the mob spawners are all set to spawn mobs that are roidraging and you still have to follow the typical resource scarcity progression (basically meaning that you have to make that initial box of diamonds last you a looooong time, because it's all I'm gonna give you for a while.

What if the 1-deep wall is obsidian, and you have no blocks to build with? The only area I'm actually planning on using a 1-block-then-bedrock set up is the white wool on my UberHard map. That area aside, I guess I'll be relying on fish for more than the areas I've got intended to be designated silverfish hellholes.
Fire Resistant Mob Spawners. Particle Effect Hell, and lava bucket immunity. Sure, you can lava bucket the natural spawns, but the lava setting off TNT-BUD traps, where the TNT isn't directly under the BUD, but rather, off in a different direction, near by, but likely up and behind. There're a handful of different ways to do it

I guess I'll pose my question about my "start with diamonds, go from there" concept towards you too, especially since I know absolutely nothing about how speedrunning works, or how to account for it without screwing over either speedrunners or non-speedrunners in some fashion.

Speedrunning is an art of dodging. Enchanted Chain Armour would get me through anything easily.

Two fifteen-minute parts, but two parts nonetheless. To get the wool, I'll probably just tunnel in the end. I'm not putting myself through that again.

I've got a few chocolate wrappers and a cardboard box. I think I know what commission means.
This. We need some interesting starts.
