I started back up work on this mod a few weeks ago. Most of the old content on this post is out of date, but I have left it here for reference. For the time being please checkout the wiki or website for details, I will try updating this post in the coming days.
About
The overall goal of this mod is to create a realistic first-person strategy game. Build a civilization from the ground up and become a mighty military power or a wealthy merchant city.
Unlike some other smp mods that may come to mind when you hear this description, in CivWars there is no way to claim land to prevent people from building in it. Instead you must build strong siege walls and line them with soldiers. Beyond you civilizations boundaries you must hammer blocks to solidify them, so it is much harder to build up and over walls in CivWars than in vanilla minecraft.
Once you start to advance further in the game you no longer need to focus on gathering common materials like wood and stone, you can get your citizens to do it for you.
Beta Testers
I am looking for one or two more beta testers to help me out with some pre-beta release testing next week. PM we with your IGN, age, and availability for next week (starting 1/11/2014) if you are interested.
FAQ I can't play after downloading from the website!
The download on the website is for beta-testers only right now. CivWars can only be played on CivWars server (disabled for singleplayer) so even if you do download it you won't be able to play. I will update this post when a public release is avaliable.
Are you going to update to 1.7.X?
Probably, but not for a while. The mod is for minecraft 1.6.4, but with my custom minecraft launcher profile its as easy as one click to switch between CivWars, vanilla minecraft, or any other launcher profile.
Old Content:
We are currently working on a mod that drastically changes the workings of Minecraft to make a simulation of the advancements of mankind (similar to Sid Meier's Civilization but first person). Wiki:For even more checkout the wiki. It currently has EIGHTY EIGHT pages and counting, and contains everything you could want to know about the mod.Website/Download:Checkout the new mobile compatible website made by yours truly here. The download and server IPs are available there. How it is different from other mods:This mod is setup to be as realistic as possible while still being playable. Due to this there is no way to claim land that prevents others from building in it. You must use siege walls which are unbreakable except by TNT or a breaker wand to prevent people from entering your cities. Common blocks are also a lot harder to break. Due to this stone drops between 1 and 3 cobblestone and slaves can be used to farm stone or other materials.Changes to vanilla Minecraft:
Wood is impossible to break without a tool.
When you hit wood there is a chance for branches and sticks to drop.
No wooden tools (including pick) other than the wooden shovel.
Common blocks, such as stone and dirt, are harder to break. Stone much so
Veins - Ores now appear in veins (generated similarly to how caves are) with a very small chance of being spawned normally. Redstone, lapis, and sulfur (see below) are not generated in veins.
No creepers (for getting gunpowder see sulfur)
TNT has been nerfed but is still a very important aspect of this mod
Villages can now spawn in snow planes. See villagers under the slaves heading below for more.
New tier - bronze
Iron is hidden until you reach the Late Bronze Age. (see ages below)
Many blocks must be "solidified" with a hammer. This is to make it harder to get over walls. Time time is reduced when near your Town Hall.
New Age Progression, All Laid-out:(Note war is allowed at any point during this progression, not just when noted at the end)
When you start punch trees like in any game of minecraft, although you can't break logs. Instead you get sticks and branches.
Use sticks to make staffs and fire starters. (Look under added items/blocks)
Kill cows, sheep, wolves, zombies, and skeletons to get bones. Sharpen the bones with flint.
Make a crafting table with 4 branches.
PREHISTORY => Use the sharpened bones to make bone pickaxe.
If you choose to do so make a bone axe, it is a better weapon than a stone sword.
With your bone pickaxe gather stone.
STONE AGE => Make a stone pickaxe
Start farming to feed your wives to increase your family size. As your family grows get more slaves.
Build a townhall and forge. (See buildings)
Gather more stone to make a furnace and kill cows and make a leather chestplate.
Equip that leather chestplate you made before, you must be wearing it to remove the coper and tin from the furnace or you will burn yourself.
Find copper and tin. Melt the copper and tin in a furnace that is in the forge you just built.
Remove the copper and tin from the furnace and quickly combine them into bronze in a crafting table.
You can use this bronze to either make bronze equipment or to make an anvil which is needed to enter the late bronze age. (See added items/blocks)
EARLY BRONZE AGE => Make a bronze pickaxe in the forge.
You can being gathering rare materials (mostly gold at this point) to make siege walls. Use these siegewalls to defend your civilization from attackers.
LATE BRONZE AGE => Make an anvil in the forge, iron is now revealed
Build a workshop
Gather iron
IRON AGE => Smelt iron and make an iron pickaxe in your workshop.
(Note bronze actually makes better armor and is more enchantable, but has a lower durability, than iron. Even though, bronze is much less common than iron, making it hard logistically to equip your armies with it)
Gather sulfur to make gunpowder and tnt which can be used to destroy siege wall.
Find diamond
RENAISSANCE => Make a diamond pickaxe.
Get the silk touch enchantment and gather diamond/emerald to make breaker wands.
Fall Of Civilizations at your hand!
Added items/blocks:
Loose dirt: When you dig dirt, it turns into loose dirt that falls like gavel when paced. You cannot hoe loose dirt without an iron or better hoe. The purpose of this is to make dirt towers easy to destroy.
Branches - drop from punching trees.
Fire starter - two branches in a diagonal to make - Placing it makes a campfire which is a light source and by left clicking it can cook meat. Left clicking a burning campfire using sticks or saplings causes it to burn for a longer period of time. When the campfire is half-burnt-out, it will start smoking.
Staff - two branches vertically to make - a weapon equal to a wooden sword and can be used to convert villagers into slaves, steal other peoples slaves and women, and control your slaves/family members.
New Workbench Recipe - Four branches.
Bone pickaxe and axe - Cows, zombies, sheep and wolves now drop bone - you must sharpen bone with flint (in the crafting screen) before it can be crafted into a bone tool.
Bronze - after smelting copper and tin, you can craft the two melted ores into bronze - if you are not wearing leather when you take the melted ores out of the furnace, you will be caught on fire. This liquid form of the ores will catch a chest on fire if placed in it and will only stay in a liquid form for a short period of time.
Black Bronze- combining bronze with coal in a workbench makes this. It is used with a new recipe to make a slightly damaged anvil required for entering the Late Bronze Age (see below).
Block Bronze Block - 4 block bronze in a square
Bridge - Must be anchored to a log or plank but can be placed instantly
Sulfur - Because there are no creepers, you now can mine sulfur (a yellow ore that generates randomly at a deep level) to make gunpowder. Combine sulfur with charcoal (smelted wood) to make gunpowder.
Siege wall - Reinforced stone which can only be destroyed by using TNT or blasting it with a breaker wand. Siege wall is crafted by using eight stone bricks and an ore in the center. It takes time for the siege wall to be fully functional.
Breaker wand/staff - Shoots a short ranged missile that destroys whatever block it hits. The only blocks unbreakable by this are obsidian and bedrock. The number of shots depends on the block used. They are also do a large amount of damage to entities.
Yes you must use Silk Touch to get the actual block of the ore.
Hammer - does less damage than a sword (as much as an axe) but knocks back your target.
Added entities:
Villagers - now can spawn outside of a village, as if they were a nomad. This is because there is a soft border limiting the maximum distance players can go from the spawn and there may not be and villages in that area.
Slaves - When you kill a villager with your fists or a staff, it will transform into a slave - you can have as many slaves as 3/5 your family size (ex. 5 in family = 3 slaves max). Right clicking them with an open fist stops their current job (see below).
Miners - When given a pickaxe, the slave will stop in one place and will mine in a circle around its 'home'. Miners will continue mining even when you are not nearby.
Guards- When given a sword, the slave will stop and will attack any mob that comes near it.
Archer- Given a bow and with arrows in its inventory, it will shoot at monsters.
Farmer- Given a hoe, the slave will randomly wander around gathering wheat and replanting seeds. (This does not, nor will it ever work for mellons.)
Builder - Given a hamer the slave will solidify nearby blocks for you.
Wife - When you join the game you are given a wife, after she is given enough 'sugary foods' (apples, cake, cookie, pie) she will have a child and your family size will grow. After each child the women will need more sugar, and the time between being able to have kids increases. When not following you she acts like a lookout.
Men - Women can give birth to them. Work just like slaves but have more health and can not be stolen. Also get defensive bonuses when near your town hall.
Stealing- you can steal slaves and wives from other players by killing them with a staff or open fist. You cannot, although, steal a man.
Cancel job - Double click with an open fist
Stop/start following -right click on your family member/slave with a staff, they will pause their current job and follow you. A guard will still attack any enemy players, slaves, or family members you go near.
Open inventory - right click on the entity with anything other than an open fist or staff.
Ages:All players are alerted when you enter a new age.Prehistory:
Once you make a bone pickaxe you enter Prehistory and can now mine stone and coal.
Stone Age:
After making a stone pickaxe you enter the Stone Agewhere you can now mine copper and tin.
Early Bronze Age:
To make bronze you need to be in a forge (see below). After making a bronze pickaxe you enter the Early Bronze Age and you have the ability to mine iron, but you cannot see the ore. You can also now mine redstone and gold. Lastly, whenever a family member or slave is killed, you are alerted of it and their location.
Late Bronze Age:
After making an anvil (using the new black-bronze recipe) you enter the Late Bronze Age where you can now see iron ore.
Iron Age:
To make iron you need to be in a workshop (see below). After making an iron pickaxe you enter the Iron Age and can now mine diamond. Once anyone on the server enters the Iron Age, everyone can see iron ore.
Renaissance:
After making a diamond pick, you enter the Renaissance where you can now mine obsidian.
Buildings:Town Hall:The first building you will make, this founds your civilization and gives defensive bonuses to nearby soldiers (A soldier is a non-slave male armed with a sword or bow). To make building the official base of your civilization you right click on the wool block with a staff. The floor must consist of 25 wood planks, all connected on the same y-level but does not have to be in a perfect square. On the floor there must be the following:
Wool
Chest
Forge:You can smelt bronze in this building. The floor must consist of 25 stone bricks. On the floor there must be the following:
Workbench
2 Furnaces
Bookshelf
Wooden door
Chest
Workshop:You can smelt iron in this building. The floor must consist of 36 logs (not planks). On the floor there must be the following:
Workbench
Furnace
Anvil (under added items it explains how to make one with bronze)
PM me with IGN, age, minecraft play time, and availability to play (we prefer a regular schedule as you advance in the game, it is easy for other players to fall behind).
i wouldnt mind testing this mod my ign is billyw493 and i play minecraft all the time so i think that i would like to play this mod after all, i like game changing mods im 14 years old and live in the USA
Thank you all for supporting the mod, and thanks to everyone who pmed me about beta testing. For the time being we have all of the beta testers we need, but more spots may become available in the future so check back.
I know there is a lot of stuff listed in the post and that most people don't want to read through it all so I added a little section "New Age Progression, All Laid-out." It quickly goes though the progression of a game with this mod and hits on the things it changes. Do note that it doesn't hit on everything you have always been able to do in normal minecraft that you can still do.
I hope interest and excitement over this mod continues to grow as we continue to move towards a release within the next few weeks!
Your ideas are very cool and i hope this mod will be released and someone will make a big server for sieges(i love them),however,
I cant enter the server because of invalid version provided in the site's download(0.1.0 instead of 1.4.0)Also there was nothing said about BoP mod.
I started back up work on this mod a few weeks ago. Most of the old content on this post is out of date, but I have left it here for reference. For the time being please checkout the wiki or website for details, I will try updating this post in the coming days.

Any way to fix this? When I go to the Firefox website it says I'm up to date. I've tried restarting my browser, but it still won't work.
