This is a NICE idea. A bit... HUGEMOUNGUOUS, but a good idea. The size of this mod, however, would put the Aether to shame- which means, this mod wouldn't be compatible with ANYTHING, really.

It's not the different types that would decrease the FPS, it's the quantity of mobs and complexity of their AI. Other entities like paintings and items have no AI, but large amounts of items will cause FPS drop. There would need to be a LOT of mobs to cause lag. Have you ever seen several herds of cows or sheep or pigs? Has there been lag? How about the Nether with all its pigmen? I have a 2008 computer and I have no issues with lag.

yeah, it takes a lot of mobs to decrease FPS. one time, my friend and I were screwing around with mob spawn commands and it took spawning 500 pigs to have a major effect on the FPS. So basically, you should be fine.

Yep, this mod is meant to not be compatible with anything else. Essentially, it's like a whole different game since it will have a plot and story, with quests, and rig elements. If you bring overworld iron with you then it will be useless, since all blocks in Otherworld, including Otherworld iron ore is not using any vanilla IDs or blocks. Overworld iron won't craft with Otherworld stuff.

Haha yea I used to spawn 700 zombies and zombie golems using the Invasion Mod and Castle Defenders mod. It was epic. It did lag, but eventually smoothed out.
It doesn't have to be incompatible with everything. Configurable ID's and unique, well, everything should get rid of a lot of compatibility issues. The unique-ness shouldn't be an issue. And there will always be at least one guy to check compatibility with almost every mod out there, which happen to be ones he's tried.

That worm cave is definitely pretty cool. I wonder if it's possible to make an actual mob of that size and with a hollow inside that you can enter...
It would be cool if you have to kill the mob in order to enter. Or paralyze it. If you don't get out on time, you will lose a lot of health since it will eat you.
50 seems enough, but I'm still organizing the biomes, and what creatures go where. Maybe the real release will start with 20 mobs, and then regular updates add more.
I like the big bird idea, maybe too fast might slow the FPS? Either way, it shouldn't be easy to knock it down with simple arrows or bullets, unless you had a rapid firing gun.

Though i would prefer one for 1.2.5 because the whole minecraft changes...

I designed some basic textures for a biofuel gun and a plasma gun. If you like them I can design higher tier versions.

They are cool, but the plasma gun looks just like the Halo plasma gun If you want you guys can start coming up with types of guns and weapons and maybe even legendary weapons that are ultra rare.
actually, mojang does this to make modding easier, things like the modding api and the fact only one thing needs to be coded (since ssp and smp are practically identical), and they'll likely keep modding in mind, since that's the whole purpose of 1.3

About the homing beacon, I'm not sure how that item would work in the game. I think if you could shoot a paralyzing bullet or dart it'll bring it down.
Do you guys know if it's possible that when you die, you don't lose all your items but you have a certain percentage of losing 2-6 items? Is it possible to code checkpoints in the game? For example, you must craft a certain block that becomes your current checkpoint, which could be useful if you went exploring and forgot how you got there lol.

Cool, yea once I start on mob designs I'll be working on all the guy and stuff. I like the ideas for what information is displayed.
