Yay! Being swallowed by alien monsters!
Sounds like fun. =P
The whole layer 1000 is covered by upside down end portal when the world is generated.
Nothing else is there.
The only way of getting up there is by a really powerful TNT cannon, flying, or using a rocket because it is above the max build limit.
Get it now?
Ohhhh! I forgot that you can go up there (I was thrown up that high by a nuke once in creative with Tekkit), you just can't build that high. Sorry! This idea has potential, but to get the spaceship to move would be an issue. I like the biome idea!

lol.
thuamcraft reference.
XD
The spaceship could be the zeppelin mod parts though it would need some specific kind of fuel, because i dont think u can use coal to get to space. =/
Or it could be a giant entitie which when right clicked starts a countdown AFTER you put fuel in it.
Remember. It would need A LOT of fuel, seeming as its a Spaceship.
I was wondering, can I help with some ideas maybe? I can't mod, but can I work on thinking up some bipedal aliens? Maybe have them have colonies? I could pot some screenies
Sure Nova, all we have currently is ideas. We would start making it, but with such drastic changes coming in 1.3, I for one think it would be best to wait.
Ruins...... Oh sorry, those are just one of the things I think there should be more of in vanilla. I definitely think the Otherworld should have some.

Not if I beat you to it!
Hmmm.... Somnixer, could we have that texture pack you used in the screenshots? For construction purposes?

I like the generator idea, it makes sense. If we follow your thinking, it would take a processor to make the plasma needed for the portal/teleporter/whatever thingy, making another goal to complete before we boldly go where no creeper has gone before.... SPAAAAAAAAAAAACE! (sorry about the epic there)
Hmm, well, on Otherworld, we are attempting to make plasma using alien materials, so it will require the Processor. Otherworld won't have diamonds, so plasmic energy will have to be made using Otherworldly resources.
and i got an idea for a biome, an underground only area with acid and platforms in that acid, it should also look like you're inside some beast of sorts.
thanks, i'm glad i can help, even without any knowledge of modding i can at least give ideas.
another biome idea is a giant ruin that looks both like ruins and kinda futuristic, mostly underground but exposed a little bit above the land.
The ruins will have to be small and rare since Otherworld is a very primordial world. The closest beings we will encounter will be the indigenous tribal people. I want to say more, but I can't spoil the full story yet until the final team is assembled. Even then, only the team members will know the full story.

I really like the sound of this but it sounds like a whole nother mod in and of itself. The idea is to start your mission on Otherworld, and not make it a huge mission to get there. I think creating a teleportation platform is time-consuming enough, as you can see with the crafting method required on page 1. The spaceship idea might take too much effort to craft and achieve, and players might just give up. If the teleporter ends up being too easy, then we can always require players to craft ALOT of overworld plasma to start the teleporter.
Since Otherworld is already such a huge idea, that might possibly consume lots of CPU, adding the rocket might limit Otherworld content. I prefer something simpler like the teleporter.

Sure! Otherworld is a primordial planet with an indigenous tribal people. They have small villages so you can play around with that. For example, what colors do they use? are they smaller or bigger than humans? Do they have chiefs? or a council? Are females the rulers or males? etc. There's alot you can expand on with an alien culture. I'm currently making concepts for the Otherworldlings or the inhabitants of Otherworld to show you guys.
OK. I'm thinking the ruins will have either a triangular or circular style, rather 'out there' in a world where most things are cubes/squares. I'll get pics up tomorrow.

Yes that's a good idea. Otherworld is a primordial world, but there is something on Otherworld that has existed longer than Otherworld's first lifeforms. These ruins are structures built by another alien race that abandoned Otherworld long ago. I was thinking that these ruins should generally be small and very sparse, but accompanied by deep subterranean infrastructure-sort of like an underground colony.
that sounds cool, and how about we make the ruins high-risk high-reward? in other words, making strong, though probably slow monsters, but giving some awesome materials for weapons as well.
Yes most of these ruins would be dark and moist, filled with all sorts of creatures. Maybe these ruins can have small bosses. These ruins should be built from materials that are not natural to Otherworld, since they were built by a mysterious alien civilization from another planet. Since the blocks and materials in these ruins only spawn within the ruins, it adds to the high-risk high-reward factor. There could be foreign items and technologies, perhaps like blueprints for new weapons that can only be found in the ruins.
How about instead of a teleporter or giant upside-down ender portal, you could have to craft a radio or something and after you use it the chat bar could say "A pod is on its way!" and after a few days a pod could land where you used the radio and as soon as you step in it, it could take you to the space station. the pod could look kind of like a lunar lander. also the radio would have to be really difficult to build, maybe it could use a lot of gold, like real electronics! BTW, i'd love to test this mod once its coded!

there could also be a RARE chance that you find one of these aliens that made the ruins... He got left there
When you get close enough you notice he is holding a gun of sorts and is weiring high teir armour.
You get even closer, he turns towards you and starts shooting.
You notice his face through the helmet...
STEVE?!

Yes, I was thinking like a house or two in one ruins area. I'll think about the underground part...
I think that the ruins' risk should be traps or something environmental, not mobs. Maybe a block that poisons/ hurts you on contact?

OK, here are some pics.
All blocks would be their Otherworld equivalent.
A ruin!
Obby = spawner of some wolf-like native mob, hostile.
A trapdoor?
Oh boy.....
Where does it go?
Some debris
What have we here?
Storage!
Rotten meat....
An alien crop and its seeds
A blueprint for a higher tier weapon!
What do you think?
Sorry if the images look funny/wrong, my first time uploading them.

forgot to mention, instead of a mob the mine is just an entity (a mob moves, this one is stationary), and they can have special effects (like potion) as well.
Nice idea! I like it.

Part of the story involves encountering a live Foreigner, who has been watching you throughout your adventure. I'll be unveiling more on the Foreigners later on when I get a chance.
I just wanted to know but who all is helping us Somnixer, with coding texturing and modeling when 1.3 comes out?
Right now it's only you and me. Once 1.3 comes out I will be making application forms and people can join the team. For the moment, it's all pre-development stage.
OK, here are some pics.

Sweet! I'm going to do some textures for these ruins soon. I was thinking that a blueprint would be an item that when acquired, enables you to develop the technology. If you try developing it before acquiring the blueprint then it won't work. Idk if that's possible in coding.

Also, there could be "fragile" blocks that when stepped on for too long, they shatter under you-you fall to your death far below in a chamber or something. Maybe some ruins have too much radioactivity, so you must craft a specific type of helmet or suit that allows you survive there. Radioactivity can be done by making every walkable block on the ruins poisonous (except changed to radioactivity).
haha, i like the way you're thinking with those traps, though it should have some kind of warning so you realize you need to get out of there. also, is there a role for concepts in the team? if so i would love to join, preferably as beta-tester as well.
and i wasn't thinking alien to be honest, i was thinking about the fact that in the first episode of phantasy star online a giant ruin turns out to have been a spaceship, it was the inspiration for the ruin idea as well. if you want i can get a link to a video of that area, might help with the development of the concept.
i somehow get the feeling the ruins took part in the idea for the foreigners, is that correct?
Sure provide the link to the video.
Well I plan on keeping Otherworld very open to the public so that everyone can join in the brainstorming process. Eventually, the future team will also take part in brainstorming content, and will decide what gets in the mod. When we open for beta-testing, the people who contribute the most (ideas/pitches/donations) will be the first to beta-test.
Yes, the ruins were built by the Foreigners. As you get stronger in the mod-game, you discover what for and why they were here.
