If it's possible sure! The station shouldn't be too big anyways. I would imagine there would be nothing much to do except talk to certain npcs in the station that might suggest what this future world is like. For example, one npc chats about how they miss their children back home in a Mars colony, or another npc might grumble about how the space corporation is taking over everything. Just random bits of dialogue that detail the world outside of Otherworld.
Perhaps you must construct a lighter, inferior suit for using the elevator/teleporter, but must construct the real space traveling suit in the space station. For example, the lighter suit won't have the oxygen tank or something like that.
I think a teleport could work, but I think the suggested crafting recipe is too simple. I can gather those materials in about an hour. I would say that maybe that recipe applies for the teleporter's manual controls, and then a different recipe for the portal base, and then a specific item such as crystal to initiate the beam (like in Twilight Forest's portal where you must throw a diamond in water). This item could be something like diamond powder, which is made by taking a diamond and crafting it with redstone powder. You take the diamond powder and throw it into a small hole in the portal design and the beam initiates. Maybe this is too complex lol, but I what I like about it is that it parallels how advanced technology requires alot of building and crafting in the real world.
**Btw, I finally made a banner, and added new info to the first page.

NPCs? Wow, there's one mod dependency already.
Manual controls? Would those be aesthetic or functional? And what recipe do you suggest? I like the diamond initiated crafting (maybe diamond in crafting table + diamond sword = diamond dust that would activate the teleporter, consuming the sword?) and the complexity, but I don't want to have to spend days hunting for diamonds.
Christianity in a nutshell: We have all sinned, so we deserve eternity in hell. But God (God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit) loved us so much he sent His Son to die for us, to take the punishment meant for us. All we need to do is accept it, and we have heaven headed our way.

I'd say the manual controls would be aesthetic. The idea is to make it seem like you are building an intricate piece of technology that requires alot of effort. Of course, I wouldn't want it to take days, maybe 2-3 hours, or if you are well off already then you can go right ahead. I think the diamond + diamond sword is interesting, that would work.
another option would be to make the ship large but to keep only a small part accesible so you only see the rest through a window or something like that.
Well yes that's a good idea. If we do that then the space station will require its own little dimension so that it is constantly dark outside the windows. If not we will eventually see sunrise and blue sky.
maybe the weapons available should be in different "classes" like in some other mods. what i'm trying to say is something like normal swords, sabers, handguns, rifles etc. and all with different properties based on both the weapon class and the materials used for it.
Yes there will be different weapon classes. For example, when you first crash you won't have access to advanced weaponry, and will resort to crafting rudimentary tools and weapons from the alien world. As you get stronger (based on the strength and defense of your weapons and armors) you will discover more powerful materials and substances that can create plasma bolts for example, or bullets and metal casings for guns. Or you will discover an ore/plant/liquid that enables you to give your melee weapon shocking or fiery attributes.
Speaking of tools and weapons, the GUI should be altered so that when you craft weapons from the many materials in the otherworld, there will be a stats menu or info bar that tells you the strength of the weapon or the speed of the tool and the durability. Same for armors. The cool thing about this is that as you discover new materials, you can compare what you craft in-game, without having to constantly refer to wikis and stuff to learn what is good or not.

How about an in-game book (or series, depending on the amount of content) for the stats? That sort of thing (writable books) is coming out in 1.3.
1: Teleporting Base. Requires 4 iron ingots, 4 redstone powder, and an ender pearl.
2: Control Panel: Requires 4 iron ingots, a lever, and a redstone powder
3: Plasma: Requires 1 diamond, and 2 ender pearl.
4: Teleporter: Requires the base, the control panel, and the plasma. (just made up some quick idea for how they'll look like)
I decided that using a diamond sword would require too much diamond hunting. Plus, I think diamond powder doesn't make sense. Now that I think about it, plasma seems a more fitting substance to creating a teleporting device. Think of it like the futuristic redstone for advanced tech. Anyways, it seems like alot, but if you were to go diamond hunting, you'd find plenty of iron and redstone along the way. I'm not sure about the ender pearls. I have a feeling endermen are quite rare-I haven't seen one in a while. But if you have any suggestions for a replacement, let me know.
In-game books would be interesting. If we go that route, then the natives of the Otherworld would have scrolls made from their magenta/violet trees that have alien writing. On their scrolls they mark what they know about the materials around them and the attributes of the materials. It would be cool if maybe a certain tool must be used to decipher their language, or maybe certain helmets have translating technology.

I was thinking of at like Y1000 you make (world generate) an upside down end portal (it looks like space) and you have to craft a rocket to get there.
The rocket would require fuel. It would use a LOT of fuel. There's your challenge, getting the fuel. Probably gunpowder and something...
It makes it way hard to get into space. But in real life, how Hard was it to get to the moon?
Once you hit the end portal you teleport into the new dimension (for the space station). Then u take the air lock.
This could explain why the space ship is there waiting for you.
Also, looking for any testers when coding gets done?
I would gladly apply! =D
Yes, those recipes seem good. Endermen are rare in relation to other mobs' spawn, but you still get at least one in a night. How about we craft the teleporter without the plasma, then use the plasma on the base and the portal block appears above it? That would enable some copy-pastaing of the ender portal code, with some slight alterations.
I like the idea of the native scrolls, maybe you acquire the ability to read them after trading with the natives a lot?

Hi there, Im not sure if you know who I am but my name is TheiKing and I am the Founder / Head of Operations of the Mod Division, a part of my popular server hosting organization that is currently developing both the Doctor Who Client Mod and the Stargate Chevron 7 Client Mod. Both are individual games that use minecraft as a base.
Now the reason Im posting this is because the Mod Division team and I really like the looks and concept of the OtherWorld and we would like to encorporate it into either the Doctor Who Client Mod. The DWCM currently has 400 features, 40 planned planets and over 70 Smart Entities (our custom super advanced AI system) and we would just love to be able to encorporate this concept into the DWCM as its own planet.
I really hope you consider this and let me know

you can make it your mission is to get back home but you have no clue what half the things on the planet do.
so u start testing them trying to make a rocket so u can fly back to the space station and then to Earth again.
The Rocket would use a lot of materials, a lot of fuel and a lot of determination.
It would be harder to make on the alien planet because they dont know what's flammable, what's Air tight or what the gravity of the planet is.
This adds a mission to the planet.
The book or ingame guide you are talking about could be something like the tropicraft mod. They have a book which when u find materails, they get put in the book with all its crafting recipes and a description. You can design the book to make it look like a holographic journal or something...
Now... Whos making the acheivements?
With all this stuff, theres gotta be achievments!

I like the sound of that, but then it becomes way too complex to make just the portal. I'm sure most of us prefer to start the adventure in Otherworld quickly. But it is cool though. I'm sure if this mod ever gets coded that we'll have plenty of testers :]

So, the Otherworld would be part of your servers or will it just be included as a modpack with DWCM? I think at the moment we need to have the mod coded first and play-tested many times; then we'll release the downloads or incorporate it with DWCM. Thanks for the offer, and can't wait to see your mods finished!

Those are interesting ideas; I had not revealed the entire plot or mission of what will happen(cuz it's top secret) but I do think I will incorporate the construction of a rocket. Instead of getting back home, it would be the space station. If this mod ever gets big, it would be cool if the space station could be a "hub" for other worlds to travel after the Otherworld.
Achievements-forgot about them! Definitely some good achievements are in order. I like the ones you have made.
The holographic datapad could be an interesting item that you craft later in the game. Awesome suggestion!

Its just a giant upside down portal that once u touch it takes u to the space station...
Whats hard about that? You're are practically copying The End except there is no dragon! =P
It also means that if your in creative mode you dont have to place anything in your world, you just fly up and into the portal!

and does that mean no for testing or yes? XD
Hmm, but if we made the portal up in the sky, then the portal would have to be built with the whole space station attached (at least just a physical appearance, not the inside of the station) so that it doesn't look like this random portal in the sky. And, how would it be placed once you craft the portal?
I meant that I will definitely allow people to play test once the mod actually gets coded since right now it's just brainstorming and closing up the loopholes.

The Portal actually generates there when the world is made.
a giant end portal. so there isnt a hole in it. Covers the WHOLE WORLD!!!
End portals let light through them so you wont have a random shadow fore ever on the ground.
And dont you admit End Portals look like Space with their visual effects?

A bunch of dirt could get you up to the portal, and even if the portal was at lvl. 256, I could be through it within 30 minutes!

about weapons, how about we let swords & bows (tier 1 weapons) have the normal durability system, though weapons from tier 2 and up (sabers, handguns, rifles, etc.) will have to be charged in the ship instead, meaning they won't break, though they'll be useless without energy, this also means that the weapons can be made from rarer materials since you don't need replacements anyway.
Yea I was thinking something similar; lower tier tools or rudimentary tools have durability bars, but advanced weaponry will have rechargeable bars. There won't be a ship on the planet, just your crashed spaceship which is a wreck, so advanced weaponry and tools will have to be recharged or powered up via specific fuel-type resources such as plasma, batteries, and generators. Advanced weaponry won't break, but they will be useless if they run out of ammo and power. Perhaps guns should have a specific GUI where you can place your batteries or plasma/biofuel capsules.
Now that you bring it up, one of the ideas I had was for several new kinds of items and blocks.
Generator:
There would be the Generator, a block with a new GUI that recharges electric-powered items and tools. The generator would need to be built and placed near a water source, so it can generate electricity. Perhaps the generator would comprise of multiple blocks, that need to connect with wires(or maybe just redstone powder, but wires sound cooler) The generator recharges slowly, but extends the charge bar for a good while. The generator is good for mid-level weaponry and tools.
You can craft different kinds of batteries that will supply electric power for mid-level weaponry and tools. Batteries can be made in bulk and can be a good replacement for the generator. However, their charge dies quicker than generator-charge. They are good for quick travels and take less time to make as opposed to the generator's long recharging period.
Processor:
There would be the Processor that allows you to blend different substances and items to form different kinds of energy such as plasma or biofuel. Plasma and biofuel would have to be placed in small metal capsules that will both recharge and supply the ammo for advanced weaponry. These metal capsules are easily made with metal ores, however some metals cannot withstand the heat of plasma.
Ammo Types:
Low tier weaponry requires rudimentary ammo such as arrows, and small throwing knives.
Mid tier weaponry requires bullet-type ammo depending on the gun. Small explosives can also be crafted.
Advanced tier weaponry requires rare substances and compounds such as plasma or biofuel to produce laser projectiles.
The Portal actually generates there when the world is made.

End portals let light through them so you wont have a random shadow fore ever on the ground.

Yea but what if the player wants to construct the portal somewhere else? And like Phantom said, you can jump and place other blocks all the way to the top.
I like the generator idea, it makes sense. If we follow your thinking, it would take a processor to make the plasma needed for the portal/teleporter/whatever thingy, making another goal to complete before we boldly go where no creeper has gone before.... SPAAAAAAAAAAAACE! (sorry about the epic there)

the portal generates ABOVE the max height limit at y1000
the portal generates ABOVE the max height limit at y1000
The generator sounds like a nice idea.
How would we get to it then?

Yea but what if the player wants to construct the portal somewhere else? And like Phantom said, you can jump and place other blocks all the way to the top.
the portal generates ABOVE the max height limit at y1000
The generator sounds like a nice idea.
How would we get to it then?
