While I love the idea of making new dragons (especially an Epic or Lightning Dragon - kept balanced), what about breeding dragons?
If you are making textures, why not cross all the breeds? Dragons can already mate, why not have a one generation cross for looks?
Like a Ghost Fire dragon. I looks just like the Ghost, has it's abilities, but the bones are Red. A Ghost Water Dragon would have Ghost abilities, but Water blue matching bones.
And when you breed them, they have Dominant and Recessive traits. Basically, can get either a Ghost Fire or a Fire Ghost Dragon (random chance?). The first name would signify the main looks and the abilities, but the second would just cross the looks.
And to make it simple, they either can not breed, or only breed the Dominant trait.
To keep the balance, you also keep the 2 dragon limit, so that you have to kill one of the parents in order to tame the child, or a special food that would 'free' a dragon from your control. (I am just imagining the Dragon farms....... awesomness....)
If my calculations are correct, that would make 64 variations of dragons. I'm not an avid programmer, but I can't imagine that it would be very difficult to make this happen, since you are not crossing abilities, just 64 different looks. I could be wrong.... but it sounds cool to me.
Other ideas:
Any dragon with the Ghost dragon as the recessive trait, the leather of it's wings should be transparent and glow like the Ghost dragon.
Maybe change the color of the spikes and swirl designs to reflect the colors of the Recessive trait. Maybe the bones of the wings too.
As for an Epic or Lightning Dragon, just make him 50% larger, and require a special saddle - crafted with a saddle in the middle, two chests on either side and a leash for the top center - Dragon Saddlebag.
Im not really sure about this idea a little to much to think about and I think thats to many dragon breeds at this update...........I think the idea of the dragons spawning randomly instead of hatching them in their natural environments is better
To anyone who may be confused about the "two dragon limit": You can have as many dragons tamed to you as you like. However, a dragon is only able to produce two eggs in its lifetime, meaning that you can only use a particular dragon to breed twice. After that, it becomes sterile.
On the thought of naturally spawning dragons, perhaps they could have a low chance to spawn in the End. A spawn weight of 1 and a max/min group size of 1 should do nicely for that. Endermen have a spawn weight of 100 in the End, so it would make for an extremely rare spawn.
All that you're doing is recoloring the Aether Dragon texture....why not do something original, like make the Fire Dragon look like Mojang's fabled Red Dragon? Well, that wouldn't be terribly original either, since I already did that myself...but I'm sure you could think of something.
Well I just recolored it because I am terrible at drawing with a computer.
I'm going to try to make my own next time.
Im playing the mod as I send this message and for some reason new born dragons keep going into the adult dragons like their trying to mate but wen their adult they don't do it anymore.........anybody have this b4?
Is there any way to increase the zoom out level of F5? I want to be able to see myself riding my dragon better when I press F5.
Also, my opinions on these ideas:
Legendary dragon would be a neat idea, but I think it would be a lot less interesting, most players would have the same dragon type rather than everyone riding a different kind.
Now, for dragon attributes, that's something I suggested here before, and still stand by that. It would be really cool to me, I think it would add a lot.
Possible innate attributes:
-Ender Dragon: None, base Dragon type.
-Fire Dragon: (Already implemented) Invulnerable to fire damage.
-Water Dragon: Able to swim, grants rider Water Breathing.
-Forest Dragon: Higher natural regen, grants rider Regeneration I.
-Ice Dragon: Converts water to ice when walked upon, granting instant platforms when flying over Ocean biomes. Also, converts lava to Obsidian.
-Nether Dragon: Able to swim in lava, grants rider Fire Resistance.
-Ghost (Bone) Dragon: Undead mobs will not attack the rider.
-Aether (Air) Dragon: (Already implemented) Higher overall flight speed.
Hi, I believe I have 'new' info on a bug last reported by ToothlesstheNightFury, on 23 December 2013 - 02:17 AM and last mentioned by BarracudaATA on january 7th.
Another problem I haven't fully figured out yet. It never happened to me during my testings so far, so there's probably something weird going on. The dragon is somehow tamed already and forgot its original owner, maybe it doesn't even have one, but I have no idea why.
I'm playing with r36 on 1.6.4 on a LAN and when any non-host player tries to tame a mature dragon, (hatched by the same player 20ish mins ago) a chat message says "this dragon won't follow your commands". When the host player interacts with the same dragon (no tame attempt) it responds as though it had been tamed.
NBTedit reveals that the dragon's owner value is set to the host player as soon as it hatches, editing the tag to change the owner does work, however it changes itself back in a matter of seconds.I am currently under the impression that this is a bug, search function provides me with no solution, though a few instances of simmilar issues. If there is a simple fix for this, or if you need me to test something please let me know.I hope this information helps you fix this bug, I really love this mod and want to share it with my friends.

Hmm, I do like these attributes, some are slightly UP though, such as ghost.
I have a suggestion also, some sort of gem or food that increases a dragon's stats, they're all crafted differently, and are quite expensive, a dragon can have a maximum of 10 of these, so you could increase your dragons stats in all forms at a decent level, or choose to exel in 1 or 2.
Speed gem/fish/ect: Increases dragon's overall speed.
Attack gem/fish/ect: Increases dragon's attack power (i.e damage done when bitten by the dragon)
Defense/health gem/fish/ect: Adds more defense to a dragon (this is visualized by thicker scales)/Has a higher HP (15 HP per gem given).
(Future implementation) Fire power gem/fish/ect: Ups the damage done by fire breath.

Because why not put the RPG test thing on my signature?
I looked on google and couldn't find an answer so here it is... I'm having this problem where my dragon is vanishing. I'm playing 1.5.2 in open LAN with my boyfriend. He's got no problem with his dragon but once my game froze for whatever reason and my dragon was nowhere to be found after I logged back on (he was right behind me) so i get myself another dragon. Earlier today i go around exploring caves then save to go to work. I come back play more and finally find the surface after a few hours just to find my dragon vanished again.
Is this a known bug? And is there a way to fix this?

A few things you could try:
Put your dragon by a fence so it wont despawn or use a nametag on it, try putting a torch next to it too.
Also, in 1.5.2, it seems to be a common bug that dragons would despawn, my water dragon kept teleporting all over the place and then one day just disappeared...
When chunks unload, it is kinda common that things despawn.

I don't think that Aether Dragons have their speed bonus or it isn't enough. I feel like I'm going normally fast on an Aether Dragon.
Aether Dragons don't fly much faster than other dragons, but it is noticable if you aren't loading any new chunks, and extremely noticable if you are. Riding on an Aether Dragon at the chunk threshhold will cause the chunks to load much more frequently than with a normal dragon.

Stop posting the same stupid dragon
Minecraftghosts64 asked me so I reposted it.

Yes I did ask him to............if I knew how to make my own I would

thanks for the info
He also may be suffocating in walls, so there's that to consider as well.
