Poll: The name of that mod should be different from Ships&Boats and Ph
We have agreed with Eagle_Orion, creator of PhysicsCraft, and Shereis, to join forces to make a mod featuring physics from PhysicsCraft and also the rendering and block interaction facilities of Ships&Boats.
Nope, no work-around for Single Player Commands. However, I would like to point out an incompatible mod: DynamicElevators_Client(v1.5.1) does not work on ships. You have to use ladders and/or steps.
I use it all the time for the crew space, however I only use it when the ship is anchored, when running I keep it up top

The main problem I run into is I like my submarine as it is now, i'm used to it and its small and compact which leads to less problems. With my big one to the right in the picture I run into the problem of what do I do with all this room. I got a alcohol mod, computercraft and furniture to occupy space
I finished my wastage of papers.. I know how to make it realistic large sub + double deck. firstly, all of the body of subs are similar as destroyer's hulls but it has covered on top and it is much thinner/sharper side than actual destroyer itself. I already made a sub and it look realistic but all my work has gone and lag badly eventually.
First of all, your mod look awesome, but when I try to install it in a vanilla Minecraft (not any mods, brand new freshly downloaded) I install Modloader and it works fine, I install MinecraftForge 3.1.2.90 everything works fine (did the same with 3.2.3.108 with same success there) then when I add the shipsandboats.zip file in my minecraft.jar the game doesn't load, doesn't have any error reports simply can't launch it, goes in a loop with the mojang logo and crash no error reports or anything, I would like to help but if I can't even load it up to see the error report, its not very easy.
Finally got an error report here, weird cause I launched it successfully 3 times then here is what I got

I think I figure out why it didn't work at first, got it working, for some reasons I've placed a copy of the ships.zip file in the mods folder, so the mod tried to load twice, still doesn't explain why it doesn't want to launch from MagicLauncher 0.9.7 and still can't figure out why I can't have my precious CJB mod with it, but at least I got it working, (it launch fine and I can get on a brand new world fine, now time to figure out how to get a map working with waypoints and a way to change between survival and creative to create my first ship (usually use CJB for that)
Just to let you know everything is working fine, problem with my CJB was because I forgot one step, it needed the PlayerAPI mod and I didn't think of it at first, now starting my first build of a ship/submarine/airship (if there's open water, fine, if there's mountains or land in the way, climb up in the sky and find the next ocean, this is the way I think of that)
What can I say, wow, didn't know it was possible to do this kind of thing in Minecraft, I'm starting my first ship using the Ships and Boats mod and certainly it won't look like a real boat compared to your submarine here, awesome.

Basically, I use my drawing paper as blueprint for my inspiration.. Yep, all my effort of dozen of papers for 1 single real-istic sub.. (it is like jigsaw puzzle. 1 piece to another.)
Got my first boat going and I'm quite impressed, not sure if I got lucky or not (depends on what you want I guess) but the seed I got (randomly generated) has so much open water I can't find nothing for miles around, some real small islands are scattered but mostly open water, I'm more than 4miles from original spawn point and never encountered another biome than ocean for now, I think I'll have to start again. Here's the seed if some people are interested : -3808088386705991737 it looks like if Ships and Boats was made for this map really and I didn't type anything in the seed option, totally randomly generated (or maybe the mod does make some modifications to the seed system to get more ocean ???).

I used your seed but I don't see any problems.. I already sit on island when spawned.. It just a random seed anyway.. This mod doesn't affect on terrains (most other mods did aswell)..
Maybe its the choice of heading I choose to sail in a straight line from the shore and its amazing how much water there seems to be, I gave up my first best ship and got another map that I will explore first before building something bigger than a small raft and not finding anything interesting but large oceans (but that give me an idea for a large underwater city only accessible with a submarine somehow, once I figure out the submarine thing first) but I will have to do that in the evening, need to sleep, its 4:41am and I'M working at 11:30, Minecraft is so addictive sometimes. Since I've discovered it on Feb 26 2012, there's not one day I didn't play the game. I'm the kind of gamer that usually get a game and 2-3 weeks after its long gone somewhere else, but for Minecraft, its like a drug... When you think you're bored, look into the mods forum and find something new to have fun, and if the texture become boring, change it...

It quite large enough for extra stuff in but it can be pain when submerging..
