This is my obligatory "this is my first coding project ever" statement. I have big big plans for this mod, but I've only just started it, so not all of those plans are actually in the mod yet. This is just a place for me to get feedback and ideas.
If you are looking at this mod, please leave a comment of some kind. Even if you hate it and want it to DIAF, then say so. It keeps me motivated when people respond, and it also keeps the thread on the front page to get some more attention.
I am currently not looking for additional people for the mod. Thanks everyone who has offered, but this is a solo project :smile.gif:
Also, because I have found this incredibly useful for not only backing up my stuff, but also syncing it across devices, I'd suggest everyone check out SugarSync. It's basically DropBox, but it gives you way more storage and a lot more syncing options. It's also completely free, and if you sign up with my referral link we both get an extra 500mb of storage.
As of this writing, the mod adds a total of 68 new items and 5 new blocks. Not everything has pictures or a description yet, because to be honest, I enjoy modding more than I enjoy cropping screenshots and linking them onto forums.
This list is also a WIP, so I will continue adding things to it as well.
Exactly what they sound like. Crafted the same way as normal tools (with the exception of the sword), but entirely from dirt. They are functionally the same as wooden tools, but with approximately half the durability.
Refined Dirt:
Does nothing besides look pretty at the moment, but will be an important building block to bigger and better things in the future.
Refined from wooden planks, cellulose is a basic building block for more advanced chemical compounds.
These tools are designed to aid in the process of obtaining chemical elements from raw materials.
These powders can be obtained from various elements through the use of a Mortar and Pestle and Sifter. They can be combined to create rather spiffing things.
Paneer is an Indian cheese created from Evaporated Milk and Vinegar. The cheese is edible. It is also the basis of all plastics if put in the oven, creating Casein. Casein right now can only be turned into string, but it will eventually have it's own tech path.
Exactly what they sound like. They don't work with lava for obvious reasons.
Copper ore is more common than iron, and spawns in larger deposits. The tools are functionally equivalent to iron tools, but with a durability somewhere between stone and iron.
Bronze is an alloy of Tin and Copper. Tin on it's own can't be crafted into anything, but combined with Copper it will make tools stronger than Iron. Tin and Copper are both common ores.
Steel is made from a process involving Iron. First, iron bars are smelted. Then they are combined with Refined Carbon to create Carbon Steel. The Carbon Steel is the re-smelted to produce High-Carbon Steel. Finally, this is placed over a bucket of water in your crafting grid and it creates Tempered Steel. Tools made from Tempered Steel are functionally equivalent to Diamond tools, with a durability only slightly less.
Rutile ore is the most common element in this mod. It can be refined to create Titanium Dioxide. Because of it's high refractive index, it glows dimly and can be used in place of torches in emergency.
Periclase ore is about as common as Iron. It also looks rather spiffing when used as a marble block for floors and such. It can be refined into Magnesium.
Titanium is obtained through an exhaustive process involving many common powdered elements. It is currently the most durable material in the game.
If you don't already know how, this video explains how to make multiple installations of Minecraft. This way, you can keep a vanilla 1.8, modded 1.8, vanilla 1.9, etc etc... and not have to worry about switching jars everytime you want to play.
Change Log
v0.1.1:
Extended all core minecraft class files to prevent editing them, aka should be compatible with everything.
v0.1.2:
Added Copper, which will randomly generate in a new world, or in new chucks of an old world. It is more common than iron, and the veins are larger. It can be smelted into bars to be used for making copper tools. The tools are functionally equivalent to iron, but with a durability between stone and iron.
Added cellulose, which serves no purpose yet but will be used in the future.
v0.1.3
Added Wooden Buckets, which function the same as normal buckets but cannot be used with lava.
Added a recipe to create cookies from cellulose and sugar.
v0.1.4
Added Tin, Periclase, and Rutile ores. Tin can be combined with copper to make Bronze, which will make tools that are functionally equivalent to iron tools, with a durability between iron and diamond. Periclase and Rutile don't do anything yet, but they will be the basis of obtaining Titanium in the future.
Added Refined Carbon, Carbon Steel, High Carbon Steel, and Tempered Steel. Refined Carbon is obtained from coal. Carbon Steel is created with Refined Carbon and Iron bars. High Carbon Steel is Carbon Steel re-smelted. Tempered Steel is High Carbon Steel over a bucket of water. Only Tempered Steel creates tools. Tempered Steel Tools are functionally equivalent to diamond tools, with a durability only slightly below diamond.
v0.2.0
Added a Sifter, which is 8 Sticks surrounding a String.
Added Evaporated Milk, which is created with a bucket of milk.
Added Vinegar, which is created with a wheat and sugar over a wooden bucket.
Added Paneer, which is created with evaporated milk and a bucket of vinegar.
Added Casein, which is created by putting Paneer in the furnace.
Added a Mortar and Pestle, which is created with 2 smooth stone vertically over 3 periclase.
Added Titanium Dioxide, which is created with Rutile over a Mortar and Pestle.
Added Magnesia, which is created with Periclase over a Mortar and Pestle.
Added Silicon, which is Sand over Refined Carbon over a Sifter.
Added Magnesium, which is Magnesia and Silicon.
Added Iron Oxide, which is an Iron Bar over a bucket of water.
Added Thermite, which is Iron Oxide + Magesium + Titanium Dioxide.
Added Titanium Nugget, which is Thermite in the furnace.
Added Titanium Bar, which is 9 Titanium Nuggets.
Added full set of Titanium Tools, which are functionally equivalent to diamond tools, but with double the durability.
Added Copper Armor, which is functionally equivalent to Leather Armor.
Added Bronze Armor, which is functionally equivalent to Iron Armor.
Added Tempered Steel Armor, which is functionally equivalent to Diamond Armor.
Revamped textures for Steel items because the old ones were the same color as the inventory background.
Nerfed generation rates for everything except Rutile.
Completely unnecessary, but if you are super awesome and have more money in your wallet than I do (I have $0 in my wallet), and feel like being generous, you can donate to the mod.

there are already lots of mods with dirt / obsidian tools.
Just in case you didn't catch the sarcasm...
The dirt tools are proof-of-concept.
I was being sarcastic about obsidian tools because I know there are tons of them.
See line above for gravel tools.
I may remove the dirt tools in the actual release because they don't really have anything to do with where I want the mod to go, which is more chemistry-related. In other words, using what is already present plus new stuff to combine into stronger things like steel, copper, bronze, titanium, tungsten carbide, titanium carbon nitride, etc, etc... My goal is to make it less "hey you have to dig down to the center of the earth and grid mine for hours to find enough (insert rare material here) to make whatever you want" and more "hey I have this common stuff and this other common stuff, if I combine them I can get this stuff to make this less common stuff even better".
Sounds very promising, I think this is going to be big :smile.gif: I'll definitely check back often and I'd like to do a video this weekend, if that's all right? Sometimes the modder prefers I wait for a later release. Anyways, great job, and inb4 Simon and Lewis!

Yea I don't mind a video, however keep in mind that this is like the alpha of the alpha release. There isn't a whole lot to it yet besides 1 ore, 2 sets of tools, and a block. I didn't get a whole lot done today, and I work for the next 4 days so how much I get done then is anyone's guess. I'm aiming for a 0.2 release next week sometime that includes more chemistry type stuff with the tool upgrading and stuff.

I just found out I won't be near my good computer for the next few weeks :/ my schedule is somewhat complicated as I don't own my own computer, but I will definitely ask my friend to make a video when the 0.2 release comes if I'm still not able to by then!

hey part of my new mod im making needs chemistry want to talk about a partnership?
Thanks for the offer, but I want to keep this a personal project, for now at least. Possibly in the future :smile.gif:
Right now I'm adding a recipe to make cookies with cellulose and sugar (which happens to be closer to real life than you would think, lol). I'll try to have a 0.1.3 version up tomorrow.
Same reply I gave ninjawaffle... you are more than welcome to do a vid, but keep in mind that this is a super alpha release, and features at this point are being added daily. A lot of it is copy/paste and then change a few things, so once I have the framework set, stuff will start steamrolling into new releases.
As for the banner, you are welcome to do that too :smile.gif:. I was going to make my own sometime, but if someone else wants to donate one that would be cool too.
